    I'm back, sort of

Nearly 4 days of running 24/7 and the Mobo, 1080 and what i thought was a dead AX750 from 2022 are all working just fine. I'm not going to mess with it, try the 1070 or 2060 until after the challenge is over. Then i will have a week of testing the various boards, PSU and GPU's that have given...

    I'm back, sort of

I've pulled the heatsink off the VRM and while there is no visible damage there is a clear gel substance that has oozed out from somewhere in there and spread itself over the back of the board. Rooting around in the parts pile i have a basically new evga 600w unit for some testing tomorrow to...

    I'm back, sort of

Hi Everyone, Since its been a while i just thought i'd let you know whats been going on, why i have been absent and the state of my boxen. So as some of you know I am in the UK, specifically the channel islands which are about 100 miles off the south coast, so theer's always a time difference...

Mowing over high PPD folders from yesteryear

Not yet, its been on blink since the beginning of December but as i work in retail the last thing i was wanting to do in December was fight a stubborn machine. I've just booted it back up and the 1080 is currently running a unit. I'll test it over the next 12-18 hours and see how it goes...

Mowing over high PPD folders from yesteryear

Trying to get my second rig back together, its in a world of hurt. The 1070 is definately dead, and folding with either the 1080 or 2060 only lasts for about 15 minutes before the rig shuts off.

Anyone “upgraded” from 5900X to 5800X3D for gaming?

Nope, i'm more than happy with my 5900x, coming from a Zen 1 TR1920x. My next cpu upgrade will either be a zen 5 x3d or vanilla zen 6 cpu, assuing that zen 6 will work on AM53

Nomination: DC’er of Month: March 2023

Thanks for the nom, Electric costs just went up again so currently paying 16.8p per Kwh, Xe.com is showing that at around 20 cents a kwh, not sure how that stacks up, unless you are in California where its stupid prices. I stop on occasion - usually when i am on vacation. I also haven't run...

Mowing over high PPD folders from yesteryear

There was an issue a few years back where smaller WU didn't like GPU's with lots of cores. The general theory was if a project was too small to keep all the cores busy it was bouncing around the cores not running as efficently as it could. Not sure if it was ever proven.

Anybody plan on grabbing one of the new RX7xxx Navi cards on launch?

I only got my 6800xt last December so not looking to upgrade this time, i need a platform upgrade to take full advantage of my current gpu, let alone a new one.

    End of an era

Yeah its a spinning drive that i had lying around. No overclock on the cpu, it was bought to use as little power as possible - its a 25w tdp chip. Ram seems OK but will memtest it after my holidays. When i get back it will be testing teh 2070 and 2060 in it again to see what happens.

    End of an era

Well, testing has proven to be interesting and somewhat annoying. The HDD is fried, its hot to the touch, runs like a turtle in super glue and frequently locks up. I'm not surpirsed, it was bought off amazon and arrived in a jiffy bag with no additional padding I put the 2070 in a spare 3600...

    End of an era

restarting the E3 rig is not going well, the Bios keeps shutting down the rig saying Asus anti surge has activated to protect the system from unsafe power. Given this is a different PSU to the 750 that dumped yesterday i'm beginning to suspect it might be the motherboard, testing continues....

The new "died in the line of duty" thread

Stock on everything as until recently i was running Linux and did not have the inclination to figure out how. switching back to windows 10 so its now an option

The new "died in the line of duty" thread

Oh its worse than i thought, turns out its the 2070 thats dead, not the 2060. I suspect more the PSU than dirty power, my daily driver runs off the same double socket and its fine

The new "died in the line of duty" thread

Its been an expensive morning. While retiring my dually rig its HDD died. While firing the second rig back up the PSU started making funny noises and it also looks like the 2060 in it has died. Not sure if teh 2060 was taken out by the PSU or not So thats a WD 320GB HDD, a corsair AX 750 gold...

    End of an era

Well its finally time, my last dually rig is being retired. Its only been folding gpu units for the last 5 years so having a dual cpu machine was just a waste. Also the PPD of the cpu's just wasn't worth the power draw any more. Its going to get replaced when my daily driver gets upgraded...

Thanks all and congrats to Firedfly for winning January. To answer Agent_N, yes i am in the UK and currently paying 16.28p per kwh, or 21c in USD. I spend about £110 a month on my folding which is around $148 No air con in the office and its south facing so it gets a bit warm in the summer.

    Shutting down for a while

So both rigs are now back up and running at full speed, HFM is currently showing 5.6m PPD. Must have been a borked driver install on Linux, Everything is working just fine on windows 10 and i even have hfm monitoring both machines for the first time in months.

    Shutting down for a while

Well, i'm back sort of. One rig worked for a day and then crashed. the other lasted 4 hours. I think they need a good day of software upgrades and general TLC, mint 18.2 and 2 year old drivers won't be helping. One is running now until i can spend some time with them at the weekend.

    Shutting down for a while

Hi All Unfortunately I am going to have to shut my rigs down for the foreseeable future as the wife has been made redundant. While my wage allows us to cover all the bills it does not allow for any kind of luxuries of which my folding hobby is one. Hopefully I will be back on line by mid...
