Well, in case someone should find this thread on google or something it appears the Radeon 5xxx series have compatibility issues with Dells with BIOS 1.0 versions. So, if youre one of the few users still using a dell computer and have a BIOS version of 1.0.xx and have this happening, this is...
Yeah I wasn't thinking that either. That was the main reason I went with it because of all the sites that reported its low power usage.
So just to confirm, even though the card performs well in games, because of that boot problem it may be defective and cause problems for me down the line? I'd...
I guess it may be defective.
My friend ordered the exact card from the same retailer, and his is working fine. We both have Dell computers, his is a model dimension c521 and mine a inspiron 531s. He isn't getting the abnormally long delays before POST.
My only question is would this card that...
I have, it was a radeon 4350. The fan started to burn out on me so I bought the 5570 because it was a decent upgrade as well. The 4350 didn't have the boot up problems.
Would removing the battery on the motherboard to reset the bios have an effect?
Well, thanks a lot for that advice. I was going to RMA my RAM because I thought it was that. When I took the 5570 out, and attempted to turn it on it booted up instantly, no problems. I put it back in, and there was the 40 second before POST again. So, it has to be the card.
My BIOS is really...
Hello, I'm currently having a problem with my computer.
Dell Inspiron 531s
Windows Vista Home Basic 32-Bit
Sempron 3600+
2 GB A-DATA 6400 ram
Radeon HD 5570 Low-profile
The problems started when I installed the 5570 GPU and switched out the old 2x512mb ram sticks that came with the...
I asked this myself, and one of the other members told me that yes, it would. It would work, if you have no need for hdmi; since it would block off the hdmi port.
As for the 8500GT vs 7600GS low-profile, on most benchmarks the 7600gs outperforms the 8500gt , but only by a little bit. They're...
I have a Inspiron 531s, which is the basically the exact build as the Slimines. I ask, because right now obviously games (CNC3 and a few older games) don't run well on the onboard 6150se graphics it came with. I noticed that my drivers weren't updated to the latest on nvidia's website since the...
I'm also interested in this. Have you upgraded the video/directx drivers?
And actually, would upgrading the drivers from nvidia's websites for any onboard graphics even do anything?
Example... these are the latest, would downloading and installing those show any improvement for the onboard...
Just a question, is the 7300GS=8400GS? Or is 1 of the other even slightly better? Obviously not for the newest games, but a year ago and older...
I ask because one is dx9 based and the other is dx10 based, I'd think 1 would be better for older games but I'm not sure. They're also the same...
Damn... looks like newegg just deactivated the open box 8500gt and all they have left is the retail $77 one.
They've lowered the price of the open-box 7600gs to $80 though...
Yeah, the dell I got came with a 56k modem so removing that shouldn't be a problem.
Do I just call up MSI's tech support and ask them for a low profile bracket? I tried sending an online request, but they needed a serial number and a ton of other useless info. I'm guessing it's by credit card?
Ahh alrite, reason I asked is because I'm on a $75 budget, and the 8500gt brand new is $77.
The open box 8500gt is the same price as a xfx 8400gs (8400gs is cheaper with rebate but I hate dealing with rebates) and should perform better. I found a test with the 8400gs at 1024x768 on high...
I just noticed they dropped the price like crazy on the 8500GT.

I'm starting to think about this card; it's priced the same as the XFX 8400GS...
Surprised to see the 8400gs perform that well. Good to see it too since my lcd monitor's native is 1280x1024.
Have any of you tried or heard of the x1550? It's no 8600gt, but it's priced around the same as a 8400gs, and I wonder if it's better/worse.
I'm probably going to hold off on the...
They could, but for one you'd have to leave the side case off since the card won't fit with it on. Another thing is the power consumption. The slimlines ( have a 160w psu, which is why low-pro cards are best for them (and any other 'slim' pc); they use the least amount of power.
I had thought...
It looks like someone's started to sell the low profile Galaxy 8600GT.
http://www.ncixus.com/products/26441/86GEF8HDFCXX/Galaxy%20Techology/
They're out of stock right now though; the 7600GS is still the second best option, most likely the 8500GT as third.
Yeah, they're both priced around the same and are great for the price.
At the time I bought it my hard drive had just died so without thinking I just logged on dell's website on another comp, found whichever was the cheapest and ordered. That's also why I missed out on the x2 3800 for 20...
Can someone answer that?
I have 2x512 sticks in dual installed on my computer, I wanted to toss in another 1gb stick and I want to know if that'll effect performance, or if I can even do that.
For this price range, not much. The only other is probably a Dell Inspiron 531s, which I myself got instead of the slimline.
Here it is. (Configure with no monitor for lowest price to compare)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic
1GB Dual Channel DDR2...
Been holding out for a while looking for a low-profile card for my Inspiron 531s; the 8600GT is better then the 7600GS(which is probably the best low pro right now) so it'd be worth it.
Yeah, I keep the 7600gs link on my favorites, and one day it directed me to a blank page. Doing a different search I found it listed here.
But yeah, what's the link for the 7600gs on zipzoomfly? I searched and couldn't find the low-profile. I haven't made up my mind about a card anyway, so...
Where did you order your 7600GS?
I've been noticing as well that the 7600GS is the best gaming low-profile card, it's just hard to find it. I've only found it on newegg, and that's open box and $99.
The 7600GS and 8500GT are cards I've been looking at. The 8500GT gets a 5.1 gaming graphics...
I'm in sort of the same situation you are, except I have a Dell 531s. The power supply is 250w and I've read around that dell psu's are underrated, so it's a little more forgiving in terms of what card I can use.
Anyway, I've been looking for a card to replace onboard graphics as well. The...
