Bump for an epic thread. Was reading thru trying to find a source of the Fresnel lenses, but didn't find one. Anyone have more information on where Vega got them from?
780i's aren't terrible boards - they do take a lot more time to overclock versus a X38/P45 chipset.
Keep your memory settings at default and lets focus on the FSB for your chip for now. With decent air cooling, we should be able to get you stable at 3.2 Ghz.
Still going strong with my HP P1230's...had to retire one of them recently because everything was red (or was it green).
For the OP, what model monitor do you have? I feel like a majority of the larger monitors could run at a higher refresh for that resolution (note the ones I have can do 85hz...
Anyone ever use the 3D Blaster from Creative Labs? II have fond memories of that 3D card, using the VLB. There were some cools game on it too that I've never seen since, and I can't remember the name of them at all either!
Inflated prices happens quite often...look at what Netflix [NFLX] stock used to be (before the price increase) or take a look at Pricelines stock [PCLN].
I'd take a look at that 4650 if you are looking for a card - interesting that it supports directx 10.1 - you could probably get some points on hwbot trying to run 3dmark vantage with that platform.
Never crazy OC's on the q6600 since I'm running on a 780i chipset and that board can be pretty frustrating to OC. On stock volts you can get 3.1/3.2 pretty easy. Never above 3.6 on the chip (under phase change or chilled water)
BTW - have a stock intel cooler I could include with the chip...

Bump - I have a 165 and a 144 I need to list at some point. Really a great setup with an NF4 board and the opty 165 (I had it running on water just over 3ghz.)
geeks.com has some 750i and 780i boards if you want to stay with SLI. The EVGA 790i with DDR3 would probably be the quickest platform for SLI.
You should be able to get more out of that chip though on your 680i. I have a Q6600 and can run stable 3.6 and am workign to get over 4ghz right...
I've wondered that as well. I just bought a refurbished XFX 780i motherboard, and square trade offered a 3 year warranty to me for $9. Ended up buying it, but I have no idea what they'll do if the product fails later down the road.
I think the standard policy would be, if the product can't...
Prices should start coming down on alot of the BFG products as places try and clear them out.
Right now you can get the following (all from respectable online stores):
GTX 260 for $109
GTX 275 for $140
I remember starting out with some major WC and TEC cooling on my Abit BP6. Moved on to the kt7a and then the nf7s which I stayed with for a few years. Wish they were still around too...
I just had the sasme problem - my Evga 780i ftw kicked the bucket. I debated on upgrading/changing platforms and also looked at the evga b-stock.
I ended up getting a XFX board from www.geeks.com (has the same 90-day warranty evga offered). They have:
a 750i refurbished for for $47.99

Tri-monitoring or high resolutions will share the 1GB on the 460's. Depending on what res. you are running, the GTX 480 may better serve you.
If you are programming CUDA apps, the GTX 480 be my recommendation.
1920x1200 and the 460's in sli should run just fine for you.
Refurbished models of the same product are available at geeks for $99.99. Same 90-day warranty as well.
