Seems like it would be technically feasible. Or even just still allowing 120Hz in the 480Hz mode to get equal clarity, but probably rather dim. I hope they still offer BFI in at least some form. They are not allowing HDR to be engaged during BFI in what's released so far apparently. Hope they...
Might be right. I'm just wondering if a screen saver that's mostly black like mystify, plus turning if off completely for longer times not in use, might mix things up in a useful way.
Pixel Refresher just ran for the 4K hours mark. Looks the same before and after. None of the dead pixels along...
I do wonder if a non-blank screen saver such as "Mystify" would be better than one that's a black screen. As it would mix up content versus my Windows desktop for example...
Thank you for trying Pixel Refresher.
I intend to start driving this one harder as I want to start using RTX HDR for all games. I guess we enjoy these spectacular displays for as long as they last. And hopefully the newer ones get higher refresh rates. (And I'd add rolling scan BFI back, but...
I'd go for it. I'm thinking it's what the manual option is for. That said, we don't know how much runway the display actually has left as you indicate. It might not work. And of course, you should only do what you're comfortable doing.
So if Pixel Refresher is the same process and of the same fixed duration whether triggered by the hours count or manually are you then asking that process to do twice as much work at 2000 hours since the last Pixel Refresher run versus 1000 hours now? Thus diminishing its chance of success?
(I...
@thedisplayguy responded.
Q: "Some people are saying that dimming cannot be defeated on the C3 nor the C4 with the service menu. Or that it doesn't stick going right back to dimming when you cycle the power on these screens. Can you please confirm one way or the other?"
A: "I disabled it with...
So The Display Guy in his latest video says he disabled dimming on the C4. And that that was necessary to do. He doesn't go into details on that procedure though...
Also the polarizer/coating on the C series still seems to be the best on OLED. Quite spectacular actually. I just saw a review on the G4 and apparently even it has the magenta black thing. (Though less so than Samsung's offerings.)
I never would have thought to get a 48" display as a monitor...
However, the LCD panel itself is the weakness here. That you can position flame throwers behind it doesn't entirely solve the problem. It's not solvable. At least emissive, be it OLED now or increasingly MicroLED, has potential.
I think emissive will always be far superior to something that requires a huge work around, which FALD is, to shine.
That said, there are some excellent displays utilizing that technology as I understand it.
However, the garbage the display industry hoisted upon us for all of those years...
I'd check out the BFI High at 120Hz if you haven't. (I certainly do notice it more dramatically dimmer at 60 Hz. Though I am using this for Cyberpunk with the help of some game settings and RTX HDR...)
Yeah, I wouldn't have the comparison be against LCD, but against the LG CX/C1, with their 300Hz or more equivalent blur reduction thanks to their rolling scan hardware approach. This unit still falls well short of that in this regard.
That said, this ViewSonic XG272-2K is great to see!
(If it...
I think you're lucky to have the CX. I know I feel lucky. (Sometimes my neck might disagree.) Finding a new 48" CX appears to be impossible at this point. Or almost so...
1) You can't turn off the dimming on the C3. Or you can, but it doesn't stick after you shut off the display. Would be happy...
I'm also somewhat weary of firmware updates. As mine had sat in a box for so long I did one big update to catch it up about a year ago when I first got it. Since then it's been disconnected from the Internet.
I would like to know more about this. Any consensus on turning it off, e.g., during a lunch break, versus leaving it on, but in Screen Off mode? Any downside regarding the latter in that the hours counter would continue to run given the counter's relationship to the Pixel Refresher? I'm racking...
For sure. I'm kind of thinking of just using RTX HDR for everything. Gaming wise I mean. Closest to a one and done maybe. Have it set up similar to Plasma for Gaming's recommendations.
Loved the matte finish on my old Samsung rear projector. Was just beautiful. Perfect. And was until the end.
I do love the glossy black on this CX. It's pretty incredible. I think Samsung might have pioneered the mirror black look on its TVs years before. It can be quite striking. Always a fan...
Just once for firmware updates on mine. It had been in the box sealed for over two years. And I know the CX was still a work in progress for a while...
Really depends on your situation. Is the LG mini-led FALD? Are you in a darker room? Games primarily or office stuff?
The speed, blacks, and per pixel light control, it could be a spectacular upgrade especially if you can control the ambient light. On the other hand, if you're in a bright room...
I think my settings mostly align. I do go with game mode for everything to minimize input lag. (That said my CX is not used as a TV. Nor even connected to the Internet itself. Tried to make it as raw of a computer monitor as possible.)
This screen is shared between my work laptop and my...
Yeah, Windows seems fine. SDR slider is great. It's text generated from the TV itself, e.g., changing sources, menus, where I notice unwanted brightness. However, those are relatively brief moments.
Sweet! I also keep the brightness low when connected to my work machine. Minimal really. However, with RTX HDR this may no longer be the case when it's connected to my personal machine. :)
Mine arrived with some bad pixels along the edges. No big deal so far. Crossing fingers....
Well, they're definitely bigger on this thing. :)
The true blacks are great. And mostly I use a dark mode. However, for Excel, there doesn't seem to be one. At least when I looked before.
To my eyes, in this relatively dim room anyway, 120Hz BFI High + RTX HDR looks amazing on the CX.
If I had to buy something else right now then one of the 240 Hz 4K QD-OLEDs. I guess the Asus, which has re-introduced BFI to OLED. Unfortunately, only to SDR, which is perhaps an almost...
Heading towards my first anniversary with the CX. It's my main display also. Shows 3356 hours today. Will cross my fingers as to its future longevity. It certainly still seems to me that this display was one of those rare moments when it all came together.
Still the IBM Model F AT I posted years back. Just now in its original white case. The caps are mostly from a contemporaneous Model M with certain keys remapped to update it to a more modern layout. Though the left bank of navigation keys is extrapolated from what a Beam Spring era terminal...
