Huh. Didn't expect to see this in my feed. Ended up buying a glass mat. The wheels were a minor improvement, but not good enough to actually roll the chair while I was sitting in it.
Glass mat + wheel review? Slick as snot. It's like going from a ball mouse to a teflon-footed laser mouse on a...

Most fun I've had in a Co-Op space game. Not sure if it's a game I'll get 100+ hours out of, but it's certainly worth the $20 or so they're asking. The most recent update makes playing solo possible to a degree, but the good times are...
I grabbed a 16TB WD drive to shuck from Amazon during Black Friday. One of the disks in my NAS had failed, figured might as well upgrade. <12 hours between ordering and having it on my doorstep. ...Yeah. Before I even got the package opened, another disk had been marked degraded and one file had...
After pulling a 5" splinter out of my foot from the wooden mat I spent WAY too much money on, I've decided to give this a shot. If it doesn't work well enough, I may end up picking up a glass mat.
edit: Update: They are better than stock rollers, but still suck. You have to basically lift...
Just finished building a new SFF setup. 4080 FE, 7950X3D, AXP90-X47 Full Copper (with Noctua NF-A9 25mm fan sub), in a Fractal Design Terra. I'm running Prime95 right now to ensure that the cooler can handle the load. So far, it's hit 90*C and is doing it's thermal throttle thing, but not all...
Bought. Installed. Started playing. So far, it's Divinity meets Drizzt. And that's not a bad thing. I made the mistake of transferring a character from a tabletop D&D game I've been playing, and... Holy shit, SKILL CHECKS ARE EVERYWHERE. And important.
I'm loving it.
That is too freakin' cool. Is there a model like that of an ICBM or hypersonic glide vehicle? (Any country's.) I'd love to print one off for my desk.
I threw together a quick stand for a large heavy picture my wife would like on the dresser instead of the wall.
American McGee's Alice was the bomb diggity back at the turn of the millennium and was mentioned in the same breath as Baldur's Gate II, Diablo II, Perfect Dark... It was a BIG deal.
2019 Mac Pro + Samsung G9 Neo.
It's a little sad that it's almost 2023, and Apple still doesn't support ultra wide resolutions. I used to use SwitchResX, but it is causing lockups since the latest Ventura patch.
I usually upgrade my phone every 3-4 generations. I'm not disappointed with what I'm getting going from an 11 to a 14. I'm particularly interested in the camera improvements. Here's hoping that the lenses are good.
Rolling chair. Thick carpet. Bad combo.
My only experience with chair mats was about 20 years ago when my mother had a relatively thin piece of plastic she unrolled and laid down under the desk. It's been decades. Surely there's better stuff out there. Can anyone recommend a good, large mat to...
Some things to be aware of with the Apple Thunderbolt displays (the old ones with the thick bezels):
1) The bezels are THICK. So thick that you basically can't use multi-monitor arms designed for 27" monitors.
2) The displays are HEAVY. Most arms support up to 15lbs. These beasts are 25lbs...
I've got a 4GB and a 2GB drive from college like 15 years ago. I just plugged them in after reading this.
Sure enough, I can access my homework. Groovy.
I know it's not a Quadro, but my Radeon W5700 (PRO/Workstation) card has no performance benefit modifying Adrenalin drivers to pretend it's a RX 5700/XT/etc. I imagine it's probably similar with nVidia cards.
That's exactly what it is. There's a theory that an aircraft component COULD potentially operate out of spec, and said component COULD potentially produce inaccurate data as a result. From what I hear (granted, I'm in Telecom, not aviation) it's the FAA being overly cautious. Nobody has been...
I recalled something similar and looked it up. 2001, British guy, called it the "Em Drive." NASA tested in 2016 and showed it worked... Which apparently since has been debunked.

I was expecting that anyway. Going rate for a card these days seems to be directly related to daily returns when mining. 1 year of mining returns = cost of card. So if the 4090 makes about $10/day, I fully expect it to be a bit over $3500.
They do? Admittedly, I've never been after any high-value guns. Mine are always like a Remington 700, or an AR-15, or an old M-1 Garand. Common firearms, and nothing anyone would scalp.
For new purchases, I've always walked into the store, said "Gimme that one" or "Order me this", filled out a...
And that's basically what STIR/SHAKEN is. All it does is prevent caller ID spoofing. It says, "We, Verizon/ATT/TMo/Comcast/etc, do hereby certify that the number showing up on your screen IS the originating number."
I believe most cellular phones these days can require the flag to be set in...
I completely forgot about that. A legitimately GOOD law, and one that is (mostly) adhered to. Problem is that it’s a US law, so if the company doing the calling is in, let’s say, a “dealership warranty center” in India, they’re still allowed to spam ya. That’s where STIR/SHAKEN comes in. We...
32GB in all of my systems.
NAS because I was playing with dedup at the time.
VM boxes because... Well, VM boxes. It's the max the mobos will take.
Gaming box because it's the smallest amount I could buy the system with. Never seen a game push it over about 10GB, so most of it's wasted.
Laptop...
Keep the OEM username and password associated with the sticker on the motherboard. Use that account to create another account with the same permissions. Set this new account to whatever password you like. If you use password management software, stick this new account's credentials in whatever...
Do me a favor. Go mine $20 in ETH. Do it to your wallet. Now try to cash out.
Enjoying your $5?
Some of us aren't in it because we "believe in the coin".
Even using nothing more than SATA 1 onboard, you shouldn't have an issue hitting 100MB/s write on a 3-drive raidz. If MS fixed the Storage Spaces parity write issues, I would imagine you could get similar results out of that. Personally, I haven't ran a hardware-based RAID card in my home lab in...
Storage Spaces has historically had performance issues with parity. Write speeds for a 3 drive setup MIGHT hit 25MB/s. Maybe. If you're just using the computer as a storage server I recommend picking up one of the more user friendly Linux + ZFS distributions out there. They're basically free...
I have an envy of you people and your wicked CPUs. I've got eight E3 v3s and a W-3223 chewing up power, and only pulling down ~4KH/s.
26 coins yesterday, a bit over a coin an hour.
At $0.05 per coin, that's a daily take of $1.30.
I don't even want to know what the electric bill associated...
