There's a firmware update to Android 6, but you'll probably have to download it and extract it to a USB stick to install (at least that's what I had to do -- auto-update seemed to think the old firmware was current). 1920x1080@120Hz still works, still has artifacts, and exhibits less artifacts...
If you need off-axis color accuracy, then the Sony XBR-49X800D with the IPS panel is the only way to go. Otherwise the on-axis color accuracy of the UN49KS8000 is superior (you will have to sit further back to get a large enough viewable target area though).
If you'd rather have a 43", the 2015...
Apparently you are trying to connect a Dell laptop to a 4K TV via an HDMI connection. The Radeon R7 3xx series video chipsets do not support displaying 4K at 60Hz through the HDMI connection. The best that you can display is 4K at 30Hz. This is why your TV seems laggy.
If you have a laptop that...
You're going to have to use it much longer than 5 hours, and even then the stutters may never show up. I went a week without any stutters on my X830C, then had three within a few hours today (just using the desktop).
And the streaks in 120Hz mode look like faint horizontal lines that come and...
Interesting! I wonder why Sony uses different panels for the U.S. vs. European market.
Since it seems to be the X830C model with an upgraded processor and HDR, have you seen either of the two issues that seem to affect the X830C series, namely the faint transient background streaks in...
You can game just fine on the Sony. You're talking about a 1 frame difference between your Samsung KS8000 (that you have to switch to 4:2:2 for the lower lag) and the Sony. I don't have any issues playing FPS or other fast paced games, nor do many other users of this TV.
That's a very broad...
Coders have windows open all over their desktop. If you're looking at code all day, the color shift when viewing syntax highlighted text, curved screen or not, definitely increases eyestrain. And you neglect to address vertically oriented color shifting, which happens regardless of the...
You will only get good viewing angles with IPS. If you're working with text all day for your web development, IPS's ability to avoid color shift at an angle is a godsend for the eyes. I started out with a 4K 42" VA monitor that gradually drove me nuts with its color shifting. I've been so much...
I can vouch for both the Coboc 15' HDMI and the Monoprice 20' HDMI cables @ 4K 60Hz 4:4:4 and 1080P 120Hz into my Sony XBR-49X830C. I haven't tried anything longer, so I don't have any recommendations for sizes over these.
As a coder the one feature that improved my productivity, far beyond any other, was the total number lines of code I could see at once. You will only get this with either portrait oriented standard monitors, like what you're doing currently, or using a 4K TV/monitor with its attendant 2160...
Just a heads up for anyone looking for a cheap, large, 4K TV monitor. Best Buy is having a sale this week ($380) on this item. Several people claim 4:4:4 @ 60Hz for two of the ports (from Hisense on Amazon and here in the comments from a user, with a followup review here -- plus that user also...
I just bought a 49X830C (US) during Amazon Prime Day (from Amazon Warehouse, brand new, unopened, $632 with discounts). The TV updated to the latest firmware automatically (PKG3.473.0107NAB 7/06/2016). I use this TV exclusively as a monitor and the only issues I've noted in the few days I've...
A quick glance at the manual from Hitachi's website suggests that this TV is manufactured by TongFang, same as the TV in this thread. You're probably looking at something with pretty high latency (over 100ms) and no 4:4:4 @ 60Hz.
The productivity gains are unmatched for large panel (>39") 4K vs. smaller panels. Even on my el-cheapo 4K TV-as-monitor, the ability to see 200 lines of code at once is an advantage that far outweighs this particular panel's disadvantages compared to my former monitor.
Things to be aware of...
TongFang manufactures these TVs. Seiki is their house brand. They also are an OEM for Silo, Polaroid, Sansui, Magnavox, Element, Westinghouse, and probably many others. Their chips are based on Allwinner ARM/Mali cores which are a quite a bit weaker than the cpus you find in top tier TV...
In my tests, there was no difference between "Graphic" and "Video" modes @ 4k. The only thing this seemed to have any effect on was when the signal was 1080p. Only then did it do any processing.
Both the Silo and the Polaroid are on sale with promo code through the entire week of 07/26-08/01, in-store and online, for $299 and $428 respectively with free shipping. Great for anyone who's been wanting one of these budget 4k TVs but don't have a Fry's nearby.
Fry's promo codes for the week include a Polaroid 55" for $450 (manufactured by TongFang -- same processing core as the Silo) for anyone that's been wanting a larger sized screen but don't want to spend a whole lot of cash.
If 55" is too big for you, Fry's also has the Samsung 48" JU6500 for...
TongFang (manufacturers of this TV) use a little cheat, which is quite clever really, to increase the color rendered without using up too much processing power on the weak Allwinner cpu core. For 60Hz, instead of going with a straight 4:2:0 color, they futz the software to render at 4:2:2...
If you are signed up for Fry's promo codes, the UN40JU6700 is going for $500 tomorrow, Saturday. Same TV as in the ad three weeks ago that user basically11 bought for $600 (I can verify -- I also called that Saturday morning and Fry's stated it was the 40JU6700). Looks like Fry's is having a...
I've been working on a monitor lag measuring setup that others would be able to utilize without having specialized equipment. With a custom written program that uses an OpenGL window and a low-latency audio interface with a plain old green LED in reverse connection as a photodetector, you can...
Yes. The Crossover 40/49" and the Wasabi Mango 42/55" all support 4k 4:4:4 @ 60Hz on both displayport and HDMI 2.0, though I'm not sure if any will do HDR w/10 bit color.
Looking at the manuals for the WE42UX3200 and the WE42UC4200, the menu layout for the OSD looks nearly identical to the current Quasar/Polaroid/Sansui/Silo el-cheapo 42" 4k (same manufacturer as Westinghouse), so I'd say it's probably using the same processing core with the same limitations...
Currently there is the UHD550 55" IPS monitor imported from Korea, and the soon to be released Crossover 494K 49" IPS monitor, also imported from Korea. There's nothing in the domestic U.S. market larger than 40", so these monitors are your only choice for the moment.
A heads up for anyone considering this monitor, Fry's is having a one-day promo code sale for $330/no tax on the Silo for Thursday.
After using this for several days as a monitor, I can give you my initial impressions:
It does NOT do 4:4:4 color at any 4k resolution or sync rate. 4K @ 30Hz...
Just a FYI -- at Frys, the Silo SL-42V1 is the exact same TV as the Quasar/Polaroid. If you have Fry's Sunday promo code, you can pick this up for $350 out-the-door with no tax, through the 13th.
I grabbed one in my never ending quest for a bang-for-the-buck 4k monitor and am trying to see if...
Exactly, which is why there shouldn't have been so many issues when all post-processing was turned off. (The processing code still has to do things like: either send the buffers to the ASIC or set registers values for the ASIC to index into the buffers, at the same time respond to interrupts...
I could literally click on the mouse and tap on a stopwatch simultaneously, then tap again when the screen changed. Even accounting for the approximately 200ms reaction time, that still leaves 300ms of delay in the test. I tried multiple times after resetting, reconfiguring, and changing inputs...
Oh, I forgot to add: this TV includes a EULA you must agree to before setting it up that, among other things, requires you assign to Hisense the copyright to all software you may develop that is displayed through this TV! They probably meant for it to be only software developed for their Hisense...
Because I love you guys (not really), I decided to try this monitor out and see if it would be usable and report back.
For those wanting the TL;DR -- avoid this TV like the plague!
Settings: GTX 970, Windows 7, TV in game mode, all processing turned off, all sharpening, color enhancements...
Yeah, I agree, that's not 4:4:4. If you had true 4:4:4 color at 60Hz, you would be able to see the "4:4:4" clearly and barely see the "4:2:2", like this:
Wait, so you are able to clearly see the "4:4:4" on the bottom half of the image here, with the "4:2:2" on the top half barely showing, and with the image scaled at exactly 100%?
Sorry, I didn't see your question in there. As far as I can tell, the Sharp UB series are their budget 2015 4K models, the UE series are the ones with Aquos pixels (4 pixels, RGBY), and the UD series is the top of the line Aquos pixels with THX certification.
The UB series also are only edge...
I've been looking for more info on that unit as well. This review seems to indicate that the [Strike=Option]70[/s] 60" version does 4:4:4 60Hz@4k, but the contrast is poor and the input lag is really high (292ms). They don't state if the TV was set to PC or Game mode with all processing turned...
First review up for the UF7xxx series. TL;DR: Input Lag 59.4 ms in game mode, mediocre contrast and uniformity.
Looks like it's a poor choice for a PC monitor.
Arrgh! After a week with no communication from them, I emailed customer service asking when my order was going to ship. They replied, "We were out of stock on that item so we had cancelled your order." Thanks for not telling me f~@&ers! Guess I'm off to Tiger Direct or B&H Photo for my card then.
