I'll check. Is there anything else you're looking for?

Could use a small rack, but not sure such a thing would fit in the car

Also, will I need to order some drive trays?
F

The MD100 has 10 of 14 trays, the R710 has all 6 trays. I should have the other 4 trays somewhere, I'll look in a bit. What OS do you want? Need any other computers or DDR3?

Found the 4 trays. Also found 12 new ones still in boxes if you want them as spares.

No OS required - this will be a TruNAS box (Possibly under ProxMox for future flexibility), but I will take all of the spare hardware you don't want off of your hands. I'm pretty sure I'll find a use for it. Man, the post size limit on these messages is really small. I'll put an explanation on what the plan is in the main thread :)

I run TrueNAS in my homelab. You have to add a Windows VM in TrueNAS (Backblaze only supports Mac or Windows) and assign all the TruNAS drives to Windows and SMB share them across the network. An extra step, but it works and everything gets backed up.

The R710 has both a PERC 6i and 6e controller. Both only support up to 2 TB disks. The internal one can't be easily changed due to the specialized cables used. The 6/e can be easily replaced, but the MD1000 uses older style cable connectors. You'll need an 8470 to 8087 SAS cable if you get a newer card.

I'm also throwing in a new Inland 120 GB SSD for a boot drive. I've got 3 750 GB drives and 3 x 1 GB drives in the 710. I'm tempted to take them out since most of their brethren have died.

Plan is to use SATA drives to keep costs down but it looks like the MD1000 needs interposers in that configuration (my homelab's MD1200 does not). Do you have any? Easy enough to get, if not. :)

This server actually provides me a great opportunity while it is in my possession. My homelab R515 has Dell PERC H700 & H800 controllers and is running Win Server 2019.

I picked up an H200 and an LSI host bus controller for it with the intention of switching over to TrueNAS, but haven't done it yet because I need another Dell server to host the H800. This will allow me to build the TrueNAS array using the internal drives on the H200 and copy the H800/MD1200 backup array from the R710 over 10G ethernet (I have a spare 10G card).

Then rebuild the MD1200 on the TrueNAS and then mirror the H200 array.

Just checked, all the MD1000 sleds are marked SAS, so you'll probably need interposers for SATA.

Easy. Fix. :)

The AMP01-SIM EMM modules in the MD1000 say that they support SAS and SATA, so you may not need interposers. When are you coming to pick them up?

Actually, when would be good for you. I expect my drive time to be 3-4 hours each way to get where you are. I'd leave here probably close to 10am, with a possible stop for lunch. So, that would put me in your area probably close to 3pm. That being said, would you prefer me to do this on Saturday or Sunday?
M

I'll be coming up with my cousin - he's always up for a road trip :)

Saturday is probably better. I've got some errands to run between 2 and 4 and I've got to be at church around 4:30. I can arrange my errands around your arrival. I'm leaving on a business trip early Sunday afternoon, so Saturday works best. Address:

Are we still on? If so, what time?
