I had a service call today to install a PS5 from a previous PC customer. I got it hooked up with improvements like LAN instead of wifi. Then transferred data from his PS4 to the new PS5. This guy is 81 years old and games everyday. He has had PS1-PS5. He plays Golf games and currently playing 2k23 Tiger Woods. I am 60 and currently playing Once Human beta so he has me beat by miles!

probably someone on these forums
this is the oldest member ive see, if the age is true, not sure if he games or not though....

my grandfather would be 99 this year...he died in 2008 from dementia.

He bought an apple II when they came out and played the helicopter game with the two paddles. It wasn't a powerful enough machine, so he quickly got an at&t 6300 (I think) and got MS flight sim and monopoly. His favorite by far was hearts.

Then in the late 1990s he got a micron. He played the games like minehunt and solitaire. Had some educational games for the grandkids.

Main purpose was lotus 123. He wrote a bunch of macros back in the dos days. Dang that dementia turned him into a completely different person.

My pop is 73 and buys the most-recent prior generation console he can get the latest copies of his sports games on. Every few years he gets the new NHL and MLB games and such, and if his current system doesnt support, he gets the whatever "last gen" still supports it. He updated from a PS2 to a PS4 about two-three years ago. I see him standing in front of his "gaming" tv in the living room playing games two or three times a week. He also has an Intellevision II with voice modulator hooked up to the TV and a box of games, probaby once a year he'll get a bug and go play Bomb Squad or B-17

Hes always had games - we played Intellevision games together when I was very young, then we got an SNES, etc etc.
Growing up, there were many times I would go to use the SNES and he would be playing baseball on it or something.

He also plays quite a few golf and other sports games on his phone that dont look half bad. He just bought whatever the latest Samsung Galaxy model is, and a smart watch to go with it.
I made a joke about his age and why he should stick with a regular watch - his defense was "Its the classic version!" and I..... had no comeback.

Have a 79 year old sweet lady for a client that loves to whoop her great grand kids ass's in Wii Boxing and Golf.
Shes been playing it every day to keep in shape since like 2010.

I can not believe how much endurance the Boxing takes, she challenges me to a match every time I come over to do maintenance on her Pc and have to walk the path of shame when I leave from being slaughtered.

I bet if you actually box her, you will probably win. But maybe not.

Love this. I always wondered how long I can keep gaming. I hope my hands can handle it as long as possible. Idk how much controllers contribute to arthritis.
I have issues with my tendons because I'm a serial knuckle cracker, not because I'm a lifelong gamer. I have to wonder about those pictures of gnarled hands espousing the dangers of gaming are just propaganda or because they were never taught to not have a death grip on their controllers. I recall seeing a video about this "pro" gamer with calluses all over his hands and swollen knuckles, and I asked why. A person responded by saying this happened to all "pro" gamers. And I was left confused because after the 2008 recession I did nothing but game all day for 2 years between sending out resumes, playing things like ME3 and MW2 multiplayer on console, and my hands never resembled anything like that.

I too have cracked my knuckles 50+ times a day ever since I could, and can feel it before the rain comes.
Back when I was a kid growing up, we all hung out at a arcade called the Fun Machine in Casselberry, FL. All of us would be playing MK, SF, Rastan, Black Tiger, Rampage, Gauntlet, Altered Beast ect.
And the next day at school we all would have bandaids on every finger except our thumbs because of the blisters.

Now the NES & SMC never gave us injuries like that. Nor the SNES or the SG which those games were "evolved" for.

Yes, I remember getting pinched many times on arcade machines. I do recall getting blisters on my thumb from the D-pad on the SNES versions of Street Fighter II and its variants, though, so it wasn't always peachy. The person I was referring to, though, was a COD pro who played with an Xbox 360 controller.

Never got blisters from the Genesis playing MK or SFIIT, but they were sore after using Chun Li or Piston Honda and Baraka or Kitana.

If he doesn't already have it, buy him Utopia and have a few games with him when you visit. Game is only two player and a lot of fun.

Not the oldest gamer but getting there...but I am 51.
My pearls of wisdom to you youngsters......Video Games are alot less expensive hobby than the wife was.

I got the fever to finally do a f***ing spinning pile driver a couple years ago, on a ps2 (dual shock). Finally got it, but also got a nasty blister and couldn't play for a week plus.

I am 43. I joined the forum when I was 27.

For me it goes all the way back to 1985. The games are better today. The tech is better. I’m not sure younger gamers realize how good they have it.

And my son is almost old enough to start getting into it. Good stuff!
