Star Wars Outlaws

The in game facial structure looks quite different. It seems squared off a lot, and even lips and eye lashes look quite different. I don't mind this. I'd rather have game characters be unique, so we don't end up in a situation like Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor which has the exact same sounding and looking character in Suicide Squad and a few other games.

I generally agree with you, but we should go back to original character designs instead of altering a scan of a real person in that case.

Not as bad as some other western developers, but I don't understand why they get a model or actor for facial and motion capture when they alter the model, anyway. I've no issue with the bridge of her nose being crooked in the game, as that probably goes to the character getting their nose broken at some point in the past, but there is just something... odd about the game model that I can't put my finger on.
Looks like they squared off her jaw and gave her a hint of jowls. Pushed up her cheeks a bit and made the overall oval shape of the face more square-ish. It looks like an attempt to age the character.

Edit: Definitely going to wait for some reviews.

wait i thought we were supposed to hate ubisoft? was that only valid until star wars?

Its Massive, they're aren't known for great faces/face animation on their characters. See Division 1 and 2 for proof. That said, they do look better than in those past games.

And this way they won't get our money.
I think most people will buy it just bc it's Star Wars and bc of the hype. Maybe it'll be good, who knows . Though Ubisoft Is infamous now for their generic open world formula. Some of the people at that studio are wokeaf on their social media, they dislike white men it seems.

Trailer was alright. The over-all world design was great, but the dialog was very average action game affair. Hopefully this ends up like Avatar: FoP, a gorgeous game with solid gameplay that can make up for other-wise lackluster writing. Ubisoft's storytelling has taken a sharp nose dive over the last few years so I'm not expecting a terribly compelling story out of this.

They won't get that DEI funding if they make her conventionally attractive

Ya'll want to come up with grand conspiracies for everything. I think the explanation is a whole lot simpler. It's a push to make characters look more "realistic". Real people aren't photoshopped models, so in an effort to make everything feel more "real" we get characters that are supposed to look more like every day people. However, we've also reached a point with realistic graphics where the uncanny valley is rearing it's head again. Subtle issues with animations, face proportions being slightly off, one or two issues with how something was designed/altered, etc. and it triggers something in our minds to be put off by what we're seeing.

Never understood the point in pre-ordering a video game? For what purpose? To give a billion dollar game company your money extra fast and early before real reviews or first hand impressions. Uh no thanks.

I could see if it's a start up new indie game company, yeah then it helps them. But Ubisoft doesn't need my money now before August, F off.

I have nothing against pre-ordering personally. Though I'm pretty picky on when I do it. I rarely end up regretting a pre-order due to how picky I am. I tend to do it more for the ability to pre-load a game (especially when it comes to consoles) than anything else. A game like this though? I highly doubt I'll put any money on a pre-order, unless they show off something amazing between now and August.

I think the idea of altering scans is for realism in small facial animations. I assume they are motion capturing them which likely produces better results than doing it another way. As long as the character looks unique enough and the animation quality is good then I am fine with it. I just don't want to see clones of characters in every game.

The game doesn't feel like Star Wars, despite all the key jangling.

Well everything Ubisoft feels the same, so that isn't too surprising.

Exactly.

Ubisoft's storytelling has taken a sharp nose dive over the last few years so I'm not expecting a terribly compelling story out of this.

It has been about a decade since an Ubisoft game has had a decent story. Their story writing is quite awful. Watch Dogs Legion, Assassin's Creed Origins - Valhalla, their Ghost Recon things and Far Cry.

Sounds like a regular online check much like Steam rather than an always online game like Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

I'm pretty sure it will have microtransactions that early access reviewers won't be allowed to talk about under NDA.

I can't think of many Ubisoft game that don't have micro transactions from the past 6-7 years. I assume it will have them.

I'm not expecting this to be as good as Respawn's Jedi games but maybe it'll surprise me...the SW universe has a ton of content and the trailer showed off a lot of the unique alien races and creatures...only thing worrying me is that it'll be the same Ubisoft formula of unlocking towers and fetch quests...but the Avatar game seemed to break the mold a bit so maybe they can do the same with Star Wars

Looks to me like they have intentionally uglified the in-game character model compared to the actress.
They have been doing that for 10 years now at western game devs. I'm sick of it, but especially the gaslighting about it claiming it is not intentional "you just don't understand how game development works"

People offering alternatives that aren’t word-for-word copies of what every dumbass grifter on YouTube is screeching about is not “gaslighting”. Maybe, just maybe, there isn’t some industry wide conspiracy to prevent you from spanking it to female video game characters:

Just a happy coincidence that behemoth western publishers like MS are openly dictating "inclusivity" guidelines discouraging anything but DEI type portrayal of characters with the subtext that they won't fund or publish anything they deem politically incorrect. Yes yes, just a coincidence, not a conspiracy fact.

Congratulations on hitting every single dumb talking point that ever came out of the mouth of an activist.

"It's not happening, but it is totally to prevent you from spanking"

I have to ask, do you often spank it to video game characters? Why is it always the activists and their supporters who assume the only purpose for attractive women in media is to fap to them?

I mean voice actors it isnt uncommon for them not to reflect the image of the character they play as. Some cases even gender wont match.

Unless they are unattractive enough by progressive standards.

She is both the face model and voice actor, so one would expect the character to look like her. This isn't like a Resident Evil game where the voice actors and face models are different.

Funny you mention resident evil, god wasnt that some of the worst voice acting every. "Wait.......dont open.....THAT door!!". I probably should try the original japanese and see how it is.

She is an odd design and i cant really imagine why the choice. Usually it is easier to model off a real person if you are using that as a base already. Was this really a project meetings majority preference or was this some higher up thinking they have a brilliant idea?

I really rather play as sexy people, i dont want someone looking like me running around with a lightsaber, would look more like a lost drunken bet than a star wars hero.
