Would not recommend the Neo G7. The two I tried out both had issues and had to be returned. They both had banding noticeable on basic tasks like using notepad. The worst part was the flickering during games. VRR control within the menu mitigates the problem but introduces input lag.
I went...
I returned my Neo G7 (both of them actually) due to flickering, poor uniformity, and subpar HDR performance. I also considered the FO48U due to good deals but ended up biting the bullet and going with the 42C2. No regrets, this thing is worth the price of admission imo. It's a really nice size.
My first Neo G7 had the same defect. I returned it and the 2nd one was better. Your average consumer probably wouldn’t notice it. My wife didn’t think anything of it, I actually noticed it when using notepad on a bright white background.
Finally got the C2 42 yesterday. Damn, this thing is beautiful. I like the stand they provided which allows it to sit at the very back of my desk too.
Are there any settings you guys would recommend to for sure turn on or off? I'm running it in PC mode right now and looks like it has defaulted...
Back from doing a fair amount of testing the 42" C2 against the Neo G7. I was pleasantly surprised at the stand packed in with the C2. The legs are designed in such a way that you can keep it really far back on your desk, which is important since this is such a large display.
I'm not here to...
I'm still getting flickering. Initially thought it was mostly during loading screens but noticing it in-game too. It's subtle but it's distracting. Does the same thing over DP or HDMI. One plus is that HDMI can run full RGB 12 bpc.
LG C2 is on the way, eager to compare the two.
Those scanlines are quite apparent on the grass screenshot you provided. I’m not seeing that on the Neo G7 after quite a bit of testing. But I’m still not sure about this monitor. I agree that most games I’ve tried look better in SDR. I do like the size and no risk of burn in, text looks nice...
Neo G7 update: Sent my first one back due to poor uniformity and a 2" vertical band on the right side of the display. Received my 2nd panel today from amazon. Much better uniformity on this one, still has the 2" vertical band just like the first one. Though primarily seen during 12.5% grayscale...
Thanks, I did try that setting with HDR off and it looked oversaturated. I’ll try it with HDR on and see how it looks. Are you leaving HDR on at all times?
Got the Neo G7 in from newegg today. Did a fair amount of testing tonight. Keep in mind my prior panel was the big boy FV43U. I've kept local dimming set to auto which works ok.
Good:
No scanlines
165 Hz is nice and smooth
Blooming is minimal compared to PG32UQX
32" is a lot more tolerable...
My understanding is main difference is refresh rate, the G7 is black vs white on G8 , G7 is glossy screen vs G8 matte. I’m gonna cancel my G8 and try the G7. Will report back.
