ok, ive made some progress but now im stuck. I put ddwrt firmware on it, set it to client bridge mode, it sees my hotspot but i dont see anywhere to enter the password for it, and it has no internet, anyone know anything about how to set that up correctly? thanks.

Not sure if it matters, but i use a wireless keyboard and mouse with a laptop, mouse works on that screen though, but keyboard doesnt. I do believe the laptop keyboard does but its plugged into the tv and not in a very convenient position to use. at any rate that screen is gone so now im good.

Right on, thanks for info. Makes sense. I checked it again and its cooled down to the point its not even warm, I set it on top of my PC case which has a huge exhaust fan on top. The drive was in a zippered cause before, sitting in the same spot but it was warm when i removed it from that case.

actually its slowed to 20MB/s now, but it is a little warm, been transferring for a couple hours. Edit: I pulled it out of the case and after a minute it jumped back to 90 after i posted this and now its jumping around from 20-90, so it must be related to file size, cant imagine it cooled...
