I am currently spec'ing out the same kind of setup. My rig will be similar to TJ's above. As of right now I am going to try the all-in-one ESXi/OpenIndiana VM route. So far I am looking at the following:
Mobo: Supermicro X10SL7-F (mainly for the built-in SAS controller, appears to be easily...
I plan to reuse one of the PSUs I already have which include a PC Power and Cooling S61EPS 610W (most likely) or one of a few Corsair models I have around.
The ASUS board supports ECC memory so I figured I would use it, and also I am not buying it from Newegg it was just easy to link the description (Provantage has it for less). The 500GB drives are just for hosting VMs so I don't really need 2TB drives.
I just wanted some more eyes to have a look at the specs of the ZFS server I'll be assembling soon to make sure I am not missing something. This will be used for general home data storage and iSCSI target for a soon-to-be ESXi box:
Motherboard: ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3...
Hi all,
I too received my new gear yesterday comprised of the following:
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P
CPU: Q6600
RAM: 4x2GB G.Skill PC2-8500
Cooler: Xigmatek HDT-S1283
PSU: Corsair 750TX
Video: EVGA 9800GT
HD: WD 150GB Velociraptor
I managed to get it mostly assembled last night (I had to...
Just installed WHS the other night. I changed over from W2K Adv. Server. Mine is running on the Opty 148 in my sig with 1GB RAM and about 2TB of storage capacity at the moment(I have room for three more drives). It is rack mounted in a Norco 4u case. I plan to run the MyMovies server on it...
I think I am going to upgrade one last time. I have two dual Xeon AGP rigs(ASUS PC-DL and PCH-DL). The PC-DL currently has an FX5700 in it, so the upgrade to a 3850 should be substantial. I am going to leave the PCH-DL alone. It is doing fine with a 7800GS.
Well my VMs won't be doing much heavy lifting. They will mostly be various Linux distros, OpenSolaris, or whatever OS I feel like tinkering with. I am just going to go the most cost efficient route at this time. Based on my usage it doesn't sound like I need to be too concerned with...
Hi,
I am building a new workstation based on a Supermicro H8DCi motherboard and dual Opteron 275s. The machine will have 8GB RAM, and I plan to run 64 bit Vista Ultimate as the OS. I will be using VMWare Workstation 6.5 for VM duties.
I will be running 4 to 6 VMs (need to thin the herd in my...
Download the manual on the first page of this thread. In there you will find a timing specification page which details timings that are designed for this monitor. That's not to say that other non-specified timings won't work. If you can find one that looks nice using Powerstrip or another...
I just picked up my second FW900 (HP version) for $100. It's in excellent condition...not a blemish on the screen and the case has a couple minor scuffs and I do mean minor. I happened to see it on craigslist, so I went and looked at it. This one is going to sit on a shelf in my basement...
The Deck does not use buckling springs, however, I am typing on my Legend right now and it is the best keyboard I have owned. The keys have a definite "weight" to them and a nice tactile feel. Took a bit of getting used to after my mushy(in comparison) Logitech keyboards. After using it for a...
