Thank you again for the advice everyone. I've completed my build and am extremely happy with the results - solid 70+ FPS with all settings maxed 98%+ of the time. I went with the Phenom II X4 955, GTX 560 Ti, and OCZ SSD.

Thank you for the advice, guys. I was thinking of going with a GTX570, new, instead of the 460 or 5850. I've got the money budgeted anyways, and it never hurts to have a bit more muscle. Would the Phenom then be a huge bottleneck, or do you think I'd be okay?

My existing PC is an old gaming notebook; M8800GT and a 2GHz Core2Duo. For reference, this mobile setup hits 30FPS and worse with low/middle settings at 1920x1080.

iRacing, yes. I'm happy to spend more if $1,200 is overkill. Since my monitor is 60", anti-aliasing is pretty important.

Good question - it would not be included in the $1,000. I've updated the OP to clarify that; bumped the overall budget to $1,200 and mentioned that the OS is included in the $1,200.

I actually don't have a database of mp3's - I switch between ShoutCast streams, Pandora, Rhapsody, and YouTube. In fact, I'd love the ability send the data via BlueTooth; that way, I'd presumably be able to use not only my PC but my phone as well.

Good info Jaguar. Nice to see someone else who's working with full ATX HTPCs. My home theater setup can fit a 20" deep case with good room to spare for cabling. If I go with one that large, you figure I'll be able to fit basically any normal full sized card?
