Wish I could help more, but it's been years since I needed/bothered with SMB. Back then I think I had to modify smb.conf settings because the defaults were not compatible with newer flavors of Windows. Might googlefoo about smb.conf sttings and compatibility with your Win version.

I think samba would be available to anyone on your network that can supply the correct username and password. You could limit samba to certain IPs if you wanted. The shares aren’t Inherently open to the internet, you’d have to open a connection via some other option like vpn tunnel.

It could be an issue with the packaging of Bottles? I think I ran into some issues with the version in the Fedora repos, but so far never a problem with the Flatpak version.

I don't notice an issue with Battle.net, mine is 2.24 which appears to be the latest and I don't see any notifications or anything asking me to update again.

I run battle.net and D4 on 2 Fedora machines with Bottles via Flathub, I don't run GE Proton, just changing from Soda to SysWine was the only non default option I chose and Bottles installed the rest.
