Hitachi SATA 60GB will not boot - suspect MBR damaged.

No, the HD is not readable - Windows wants to format it since it doesn't recognize the file system.

Hitachi SATA 60GB will not boot - suspect MBR damaged.

Thanks for the feedback Guys, #1 Son confirms the LT used Windows XP and I found an ISO of SP3. He is dropping the LT off to me (sometime) so I can see what I can do to make it boot.

OK this HD is in an older Laptop my son uses to run some old programs. He thinks it was running Windows Vista or XP. He was trying to copy the disk and all went well until the very end and when it gave an error message and stopped. The drive is now on my workbench, using various HD analysis...

Sold: Upgrade W11 Home to Pro

Sold Late night error ... purchased a W11 Home to Pro upgrade by mistake. It was a link from PC world via Stack Commerce. I know you can do Pro from the ISO with a fresh install, but I didn't want to bother. Found out the LT was Pro anyway... So anyone want to just do the in place...

In that case, a 5950x or another 5900x. I looked at a speed chart but it didn't tell me if it was AM4 or AM5.

I'm not much of a gamer, so single thread / core performance is of most interest. I figured you guys upgrading to AM5 might be willing to let go a good performing AM4 CPU. My current main use PC has a Ryzen 9 AM4 5900X and the occasional use / server a Ryzen 5 5600X, so I'd like to upgrade my...

    WTB Pristine Non Gaming Laptop

OK -I'm and an old retired guy with V, good PC's at home, but getting involved in the local community and need a clean OK laptop to run Office 365 during meetings Needs to run W11 to match my other PC's and have 8GB (16 preferred) Ram and 256 SSD 14" or 15.6" is OK . Intel I5 or equivalent...

Windows 11 would it be bad to install with no TPM and no Secure Boot?

Not sure how I missed this thread. I wanted to install W11 just to keep it aligned with my other PC's. I tried various online versions of "How to" make W11 work with my robust Asus Z97-Pro Gamer, I even added a TPM 2.0 module only find no option in the bios although referenced in the manual. I...

WTB MB/CPU/RAM to run my server on W11

Thanks for the replies, I decided to stay with existing HW/SW for now.

WTB MB/CPU/RAM to run my server on W11

OK so I moved my PC's to W11 from W10 without issues, (wife even likes it) now I would like to do the same for my server - no special reason. Existing HW is not a good fit although overkill for a server in home network. I tried the various cheats without success (so far). I went AMD for my last...

Any advice on how to get a MSI Motherboard to POST after a BIOS update?

I'm old school and revived many "dead" motherboards with this simple method. Bridge the CMOS reset pins. Remove the CMOS battery Leave overnight or at least several hours. Put battery back and remove jumper. Fingers crossed and it posts and starts up.

Networking not working with W10 updates.

That's part of the problem I can't remember the password :( I used to use no password - there is just 2 of us in the house. I'm just worried that if I turn the pin off it will default to a PW I don't recall.

Networking not working with W10 updates.

OK I'm no expert but my W10 home network used to work fine with Homegroup. Now Homegroup is not supported each update seems to have made things more difficult. I have a W10 PC with a lot of HD space that I use as a server, and 2 other PCs connected to that. I recently reinstalled W10 Pro on...
