C_Payne thanks for the custom dual-slot riser ! Put it to good use in my custom 14.5L enclosure, with two 240mm radiator cooling two GTX 1070 and an i7 6700K :)

Waiting for my custom water blocks to move these two 1070 Katana and an i7 6700K from their bench to their custom 12L enclosure :) Right now, the CPU is cooled by an EK Annihilator, the upper 1070 by an EK Thermosphere. Pum pis an EK Sbay DDC while the radiator is a Magicool G2 Slim 240. The...

Upgrade question : is it worth it to move from a Z170 to a Z270 board, given that the latter carries 4 extra PCI-E lanes ? Am I going to benefit from these extra lanes in a dual GPU + single M.2 NVMe drive + 6700K configuration ?

Replacing a DC connector by cables : safe or not ?

Spartacus : thanks for the detailed explanations and the solder ref. - Thanks for the polarity reminder. I have the connector pinout in the motherboard doc :) - Do you have a particular soldering iron reference you may share ? - What do you mean by wires ends being flat against the board ? I...

Replacing a DC connector by cables : safe or not ?

DTN107 : thanks for the input. I guess I'll see when I'll have the board. I haven't soldered anything in a long time. I don't want to f*** up a 140€ board :) But yes, that would be the easiest way to power the board : just two wires and a 12V open-frame PSU. Spartacus : yes, that could also...

Replacing a DC connector by cables : safe or not ?

Thanks again for your help. I get the picture :) Either way (solder or male connector), the issue I forsee is the motherboard DC connector current rating. It is rated for 12A. With a 45W chip and a GTX 1050 Ti single slot, I'm looking at around 13A max. Having to rely on the connector leads...

Replacing a DC connector by cables : safe or not ?

michalrz Thanks ! Just to be sure, you mean inserting wires where the arrow are, then heat the connector legs above the mobo to melt the solder ? Leaves very few clearance for the iron ! rtangwai : yes, now that I have the exact ref, this certainly what I'm going to do. Except I'll have...

Replacing a DC connector by cables : safe or not ?

michalrz thanks a lot for your quick answer. Here is a picture of the back of the connector. I do not have the board yet so please excuse the low res. I also found the connector reference : Phoenix Contact Combicon series

Replacing a DC connector by cables : safe or not ?

Hello, I am quite interested in the motherboard below, a Ling Jiang PCM5-QM77 : socket G2, thin mini-itx with a PCIe x16 slot, wide input. Only issue is the weird DC connector, which is absolutely not standard. Seems also a Chinese component from the company Palyoo. To solve this issue, is it...

I think I'll watercool the lower GPU only - as it needs to be single slot and will get hotter than the upper GPU. The upper GPU can remain air-cooled with a nice dual-slot cooler. With a dual-slot GPU in the upper riser slot, the volume achieved is a bit wider, due to the height increasing by...

I don't know as the fan of both GPU ramp up and stay stuck at 1600 RPM in Windows, whether it's idle or under load. At 1600 RPM it's not that silent. Could be worse though. There is a French guy making quality custom WB - cheaper than EK ;) I'm planning to put the bottom one under water. 1070...

Hi LukeD It's my second successful bifurcation attempt (previous one with a GTX 970 and a GTX 750 Ti and the Amerirack riser) but I never had the chance to try a SLI. I'm going to use that setup for 3D rendering. From what I've read, SLI doesn't work very well though.

C_Payne riser works like a charm !! Asrock Z170 Fatla1ty ITX + i3 7350K + one KFA2 GTX 1070 Katana + one KFA2 GTX 1070 Mini Potato pic just to give you an idea of the volume achieved :)
