Hogwarts Legacy

Wife is enjoying it so far. Big Harry Potter Fan back in the day. Its running well. 1080P High Preset on her 1660TI Mobile 6GB and 4800HX laptop. NVME 1TB SSD and 16 or 32GB ram can't remember.

Random observation but I reset HWINFO's values and played the game for an hour, then looked at the metrics:

tTSbaUg.png

From this I can see that
  • 17GB of RAM was used through that hour by the game alone (known already)
  • The total CPU usage was 38% max, but the average through the hour was 1.1% (?!) - The core/thread use average was only 13.7%
  • The NVMe gen 4 SSD used no more than 211MB/s read and 336MB/s write, so the game is not even optimised for streaming textures off a fast SATA SSD let alone an NVMe drive
  • The GPU core load on average was 32.7% and GPU memory controller load was 13.2%
  • Total GPU power was only at 55.9% for that hour, and I have the GPU set in MSIAB to 90% power limit anyway, which it did hit at times
  • The VRAM use did hit nearly 11GB at times (of 12GB), but the average was 8.4GB
  • The GPU power draw was 195W average, but it did hit 314W - This just highlights the huge swings we already talked about before, there's no consistency with this game
All of this seems to point to sod all game optimisation really. It's running decently generally because of the power of modern systems, and that also explains the traversal stutter, because that is something that doesn't care about what the system specs are, and the system is effectively just coasting along because no specific piece of hardware is actually being taxed much.

Mirrors my conclusions. As I stated in a previous post, Warzone 2 puts a heavier load on all my components than this game and runs better too. Feels like its tuned to not use any resources beyond what consoles can muster

I've watched the first 2 or 3 movies but I don't remember them well so I don't consider myself a HP fan but I bought this game cuz I wanted new and shiny. It's fun and I don't really know much about the lore at all. There's so much detail in the world, I'm having a blast just exploring and seeing a new fantasy world for me. It doesn't need the franchise for it to be a good game but I imagine this is zOMG for fans. What I saw of the combat kinda made me think of SW Force powers or whatever. Bouncing and floating enemies around lol
I watched a few gameplay videos before I bought it, the combat didn't look too interesting. But after playing 3 hours, the combat and gameplay so far exceeds my expectations, I'm hooked.

I ran into this earlier, and I'm not sure if this is a bug or intended but every loot bag I go to tells me I can't carry any more wiggenweld potions, so I can't loot them. I can't sell, trash, or do anything with the stupid potions either, besides letting an enemy beat on me to then heal afterwards. This is incredibly obnoxious, especially when you see the bag with a nice pillar of light indicating the rarity of the other non-potiony items inside. This is the first deal breaker I've encountered in an otherwise very fun playthrough.
That's really strange - I'm guessing you're pretty far along since I've yet to cap on potions, I think I'm carrying like 13 or 14 at the most...Just curious when you started to notice this?

Yet another baffling discovery about this game: the developers further ruined the already mediocre graphics with "fog". Check this out:

https://www.nexusmods.com/hogwartslegacy/mods/17

This isn't really a "mod", just an engine.ini edit. I'll save everyone the misery of signing up for an account on SJWnexus and share the fix here:

[/Script/Engine.RendererSettings]
r.DepthOfField=0 # Depth of field toggle
r.DefaultFeature.LensFlare=0 # Lens Flare toggle
r.DefaultFeature.MotionBlur=0 # Motion Blur toggle
r.BloomQuality=0 #0: off, no performance impact. 1: average quality, least performance impact. 2.3.4. 5: Best quality, most significant performance impact. (default)
r.DisableDistortion=1 # Prevents distortion effects from rendering. Saves a full-screen framebuffer’s worth of memory.
r.fog=1 # toggle fog better to disable the fog below instead.
r.VolumetricFog=0 # Whether to allow the volumetric fog feature.

The game is good enough that I'll push through the performance issues but reeeeally would like a patch that addresses them like, yesterday.

Doesn't nvidia usually release a patch the same day as big games? wtf is going on with them?

Isn't it possible that the fog is an artistic choice? I think the fog gives an intentional mysterious atmosphere to the world. It's not something you "fix", unless you want to ruin the intended effect.

I remember the same crap happening with Alien Isolation, randos trying to "fix" the game by "improving" reflections and shadows changing the entire look and feel of the game in the process.

Glad I just have a good enough card so I don't have to gimp graphics in the ini file lol.

Those images look worse without fog. Takes away the entire feel and makes it look like yet another dime a dozen fantasy game.

I'm guessing this was a bug because I was getting the same message on any lootable item, you can tell when a dropped bag has a potion for example because it has a green light, but it was doing it for everything. When I saved and exited and then came back to the game it was working fine again.

The patch was close enough but it's not enough. The memory leak and other issues are on the devs to deal with. I have seen clear acknowledgment from them that they are aware of all the issues and are working on them.

they are going for a "cinematic look", hence the fog, bloom, flare, film grain and chromatic aba-whateveriscalled
im using some of those edits in my ini and the bloom one makes things look like crap at 0, i used 3. everything else seems to be ok.
im also noticing my card getting worked harder with the edits, temps have spiked...

Is anyone playing this with a physical disc on PS5? If so - does the game work completely disconnected from the internet after installing the mandatory day one patch? Thanks!

I like it more with the fog.

At this point I just wish the game would stop crashing on me and the saves \ auto saves worked better. Performance is fine once I gave up on RT.

The game will run fine for an hour or two for me and then crash, proceeded by multiple crashes within minutes of logging back in, and then run fine for an hour or so again.

Compounding the issue is that autosaves are a bit wonky with restoring some things but not everything. My game crashed after solving a puzzle and killing some skeletons. Restoring the autosave loaded the room with the puzzle solved and no skeletons, but no credit for the kills. A potion I had used for a quest was returned to my inventory and the associated quest progress was reverted.

My sons 5700x \ 1080ti build on the other hand has been flawless. I guess I'm just lucky :ROFLMAO:

3070m here and I'm about a few hours in and no issues so far but that's not saying much. My daughters are many hours in on the HTPC with a 1080ti and not a hiccup.

Anything on your rig OC'ed?

PC and Xbox patch coming soon, PS5 delayed later until this week. I have a feeling this will require a few patches before it runs well.

It already updated for me.
Anyone knows if there is a way to stash items in the game? I want to keep a few items but I don't want to carry them around all the time.

Really enjoying this one on PS5. Set it to balanced mode and it runs great and looks fantastic on my CX 65". I'm a full fledged console peasant now, I should sell my 7950X + 3080 system that I never use.

Be nice if you could vault/store items for another time. Maybe there is an option for that, but I haven't seen it yet.

I'll typically just run to a vendor and sell all my shit after I go back to reveal a gear piece or two at the room of requirement.

At this point, I've been doing my best to make it a routine before starting a few more missions since I've already hit cap a few times in the middle of a loot area. Not really a fan of destroying gear on the fly either. You could always go that route if needed. Delete green items only rule.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard someone made a voice-mod changer for people uncomfortable with the trans content in the game, and that mod was removed from the mod sites? Mind you, these are the same mod sites that allow nude mods and other pretty gross things. Sounds like we have a serious issue within the game community that needs to get rooted out if this is true....

I mean anyone that fragile to get bothered by a minor character must be borderline non functional in society.

Great, the character hints they're trans. Who gives a fuck.

This is more about the fragility of those who can't handle the idea that many gamers don't want trans ideology shoved down their throat. GamerGate was a big deal precisely because it was about the industry collaborating against gamers and dictating what's good for them.

Those who don't want it in their game made the effort to remove it. But now the mod sites won't allow these gamers to have a mod which removes that ideological garbage. I'm not a Harry Potter fan but I would perfectly understand why some gamers might feel like it's something shoehorned into the game, which doesn't belong, and doesn't make the game better. Of course, I'd understand the "blah blah I don't care" rhetoric if you already agree with the ideology. In which case, no shit you aren't opposed to it (and nobody cares).
Don't use the site then - you're welcome to mirror it just as they're welcome to provide their service as they see fit.

Problem solved.
Sounds like you're entirely missing the point.

They are certainly welcome to provide their services as they see fit. The general public is also welcome to commend or condemn their services as they see fit.

I'm about to boot it up myself and see but have any of you seen performance improvements from the patch?

i might in a bit but make sure you remove any ini edits, if you have them. get a true apples to apples comparison.
edit: didnt get around to it, maybe tonight.

Nope. I disabled them during the darktide early access crash fest and haven't bothered to turn them back on. I haven't run memtest since upgrading to 32gb at game launch but everything else is running fine and there are fairly widespread reports of crashing so I'm not going to bother just yet.

Hoping todays patch helps.
