fastgeek not purposefully, but I think I had used a different port out of convenience because I had routed the new cable differently. The drive remains ineffectual through soft-reboots (reset switch) but revives after hard reboot.
Software is gsmartcontrol (or something like that), should be available in most Linux distros. I'd use a windows tool, but neither the drive nor pc it's in has windows installed.
