I for one like motion blur in certain games. As long as it doesn't introduce lag.It's not trying to mimic a flaw of anything, it's trying to simulate real-life vision and make it easier for your eyes to follow on-screen movement by making it appear smoother. Turn your head and/or eyes fast enough and you see everything blur. It's not in the same category as those other effects either, as those are just artistic effects, while blur has a practical use, esp. in lower frame rate games at 30-60 FPS.
The video isn't condescending in the slightest, nor is it telling you what your should like. I recommend watching it before making a snap judgement like that and seeming offended by an objective take on the subject.
In a game like ARK? sure!
In a game like Quake live? NO!
