I think the build quality has gone down quite a bit in the last several years, and even back in the day it wasn't all that great. Amp failure seems to run rampant... thankfully there is such a strong enthusiast community around these that repairs can be made pretty easily a lot of the time.
I upgraded to a set of Micca MB42X bookshelves, a Polk PSW10, and a teensy Lepai amp and have been much more impressed with the sound than I was with the ProMedias. Not too shabby for under $200.
