Now that you got your iPhone 6 ...

Been using my 6+ quite a bit more today. The size is really going to take some getting used to. I think I really need to get a case on it. The phone is a little too slick in my hand. Because of the size I have to shift it around a bit and that could get dangerous. Waiting on a Spigen case to get here.

One very nice benefit of the phone is that it gets better wifi reception. I can use it in areas at work that my 5 wouldn't have any coverage. That's pretty nice.

Reading some of the comments here, I have to wonder what you guys think constitutes a sufficiently advanced upgrade. Apple damn near everything compared to the iPhone 5s, and that isn't enough?

I can't wait for Yosemite to come out; Handoff is going to be incredible.

When Apple upgrades hw specs (to match 2 year old phones on other platforms) then suddenly the specs become imp.

When they don't, then 'user experience' is imp and suddenly specs don't matter.

Its a win-win for Apple, and the exact opposite logic is used for judging Android phones.

Apple continues to sell the most expensive phones with outdated specs, because they can, because of the fruit logo, and because of the mythical ' better user experience' which no one ever fully details except for using false statements like 'Android still has lag'.

Or because people like me have had nothing but horrible experiences on Android and nothing but good on Apple.

I gave Android 3 shots. This was 3 years ago, but if you can't get it right 3 times on 3 different phones, you're out.

Plus, everything that everyone on here raves about Android doing is worthless to me as I don't care to customize every detail on my phone.

I guess it just goes to show how inefficient Android is then if the iPhone 6, while using "2 year old hardware", is running circles around the 2014 Android flagships in just about every performance metric.

Sort of reminds me of the old days of the AMD Athlon 64 running train on the Pentium 4's, even with substantially lower clocks.

Werd...

I was at a Verizon store to try an LG 3. It was too big (I know, that's what all the broads say :p), but as the rep was raving about how smooth KitKat was, the damn phone froze and restarted. Too fucking funny!

I have to agree that the KitKat restarts are annoying. The problem for me is they happen on tablets as well. On the other hand, my hand-me-down from wife iPad Mini is slow to use in comparison. Even with the occasional reboot, my Nexus 10 beats it for what I do with a tablet. I don't think I'd like a phone unpredictable reboot though. Currently, have a minimal feature Windows Phone running 8.1. I probably can get by with an iPhone on my next upgrade coming soon.

Don't look now, but your strawman army appears to have caught fire.

The part about a sales rep promoting Android isn't a surprise; Verizon in particular has sales metrics tied to pushing Android devices, and has since at least 2012 if not earlier.

The bending video shows it will bend a little before it stops working. Curiously, the Note 3 wasn't damaged by similar amount of force. It seems the case on the iPhones should have been made just a tiny bit thicker or reinforced on the sides or thicker. Still, I know some people are a lot harder on phones than the rest of us.

Any thoughts on the iPhone 6 Plus bending issue?

Kind of sucks but being this thin, id assume is totally possible. Im just careful with my 6+ in my pocket. I'll take it out if its feeling tight/crunched up in there depending on seating position.

In all honesty, I'm not surprised something like this happened. It's not dissuading me from getting a 4.7" though. I'll just have a decent Spigen case on it.

Got mine in today and I must say, I'm considering selling it and getting a regular 6. Don't get me wrong, the phone is fantastic... but it really is a big device. I've been to a few stores with it and I left it in the car every single time as I didn't feel like lugging it with me. I really like the OIS and battery life of the + though.

Gonna sleep on it for a week or so

Any thoughts on the iPhone 6 Plus bending issue?

I think it's hugely blown out of proportion. The phone is pretty solid feeling and if you watch the video where the guy bends it, he's clearly giving it everything he has. That's not to say that you couldn't bend it on accident, but it would have to be total negligence on the part of the owner (ie, sitting on it against a counter top with very tight jeans on). I can't figure out how people are managing to bend it in their front pockets.

The iPhone 5/5S had this issue as well and I had one for two years, carrying it in both my front and back pockets, and never bent it. The same goes for millions of customers.

Anyone else have a loose home button? Guess I have to go to the nearest apple store to get it replaced...meh.

no, but do have a "no service" error after updating to iOS 8.0.1 lol FML

Chatting with Applecare now hoping for a fix. Downloading iOS 8.0 just in case though.

Yeah I didn't update to that. I googled it first. Well fuck. Nearest Apple store is 30 miles away and that can take a while depending on traffic.

Good luck. I hate the Apple store with a passion. I always have an anxiety attack lol

Good news is that they'll likely just replace the phone for you. I don't think they have replacement parts yet last I read (I could be wrong though)

edit: it appears that there is a fix to get touchID and cell service back with iOS8.0.1. I'll post it once the tech finishes (it's slow going)

edit:edit: So I just restored back to iOS 8.0. Apple stopped pushing the update so hopefully they release a fix soon. AppleCare is getting hammered with people complaining lol

I've had success explaining to AppleCare that I need a cross ship on a faulty device. They might be willing to send you one but I don't remember if I had to say any magic words to get to the right specialist. It wasn't a hassle, though (wasn't like I had to talk them into anything), so might try calling Apple first.

I don't dread the experience at the Apple Store, last time I had to get my iPhone 5 replaced it was really painless. I'm gonna see my dads iPhone 6 and see how the home button feels on that. Maybe I'm just being paranoid or something :p. I'll probably wait a bit if I need to get it replaced as well.

Not a huge fan of the gold this time around, looks pinkish in the light. The gold on the camera looks 100x better :/. Also I seem to suck at using this keyboard. Keep pressing the wrong keys lol.

Yeah, Apple Store experience is fun for me! :D

But I understand not wanting to drive the hour round trip.

Is the keyboard different? I'm still on iOS 7 with my jailbreak. I'm itching so badly to try out swype on the iPhone, though

You're still using a 5s right? I think I'm just not used to the bigger size of the 6 yet. The only problem with the keyboard on my 5s was that it took up a bit more space with the suggestions. But it felt pretty much the same, the predictions were really good most of the time.

Yeah, I'm on the 5s and unless they come out with a comparably sized 6c I'm going to weep.

Someone posted a will it blend iPhone 6+ and I have that model blender. So after seeing it literally fill the jar I'm freaking amazed at how large it is.

No way would I ever get the 6+. The 6 is already borderline too big for me, although I do have baby hands. I'll probably get used to this in a couple of weeks. I would have been content with keeping my 5s though. The gold iPhone 5s and black iphone 5 are still the best looking phones in my opinion.

Same here. I considered strongly upgrading to iOS8 after returning my 6, but there's just too much to lose. My 5s has been an excellent phone. Sticking with it for a while longer certainly won't be difficult. This will be the first time I failed to upgrade my phone in the fall since 2009.

I might give the M8 Win 8.1 another try when it comes to T-Mo, though. :p

I think iOS 8 is bad. Have you guys seen the video where a guy bends the iPhone 6 Plus?

yeah. it looks like he was really wrenching on it from what I saw. I doubt it's a serious problem as long as you treat it a bit more carefully than a smaller phone. it's got a lot of slim length to it, so the wrong angle can really bring some serious pressure to bear.

Keep in mind, though, that smaller surface area exerts higher pressure. An adult male's foot sized shoe won't dent a wooden floor but a petite woman's heel can. Take your palm and press it against your other palm and then take your thumb and push down on your palm. Notice how much force your thumb is exerting? So if you carry stuff in your pockets you could exert a lot of pressure in a small surface area that wouldn't normally occur from it simply resting against your thigh.

I have a crazy idea; treat a $700 piece of glass and metal like a $700 piece of glass and metal, and you'll be OK.

The amount of abuse people expect Apple devices to endure is borderline unreal. I've never heard these same demands laid on other phones. (There's a sales figure joke here.)

So the new touchID sensor is great (or possibly just the software driving it).

I had a 5S for about a week or two, before I decided to return it, and my biggest complaint I had was that unless your hands were completely clean/dry, the TouchID would frequently register an incorrect print. This drove me nuts because you're forced to then enter the passcode after "X" amounts of attempts.

I'm glad to say that it no longer seems to be the case. So far it's registered every single print.

I have a crazy idea; treat a $700 piece of glass and metal like a $700 piece of glass and metal, and you'll be OK.

Stop using common sense. It's an Apple thread, after all.

Heh. I ordered my iPhone 6 on Monday and it arrived yesterday. :p

Also touchid is quite a bit better.

I'll be upgrading this weekend, I wonder what the chances are of stores having either of the phones in stock?

They might not have the color combo / memory you want, but I think you actually surprisingly might find some at your local apple stores.

That was the last place I thought id check because its always gone there ( even though I had my pre order through target ) but I ended up getting mine at apple!

Radio Shack maybe? I know they do phones...and NO ONE shops at Radio Shack...I wonder if they do iphones.

Are places like that able to do it as an upgrade since I'm due for one with my contract?

Yep they can. All the Verizon stores around here suck. So I'll usually go to Best Buy or Radio Shack to do my upgrades.

Just call around. I am pretty sure the verizon store I went to yesterday had a couple of 6s around. The 6 plus will be hard to impossible to find for sure though.

I know bestbuy does upgrades but that is only because I worked in that hell.

I love my iPhone 6 Plus. White silver + White silicone case is the way to go. Camera focusing is noticeably faster.

Well my iPhone 6+ shipped early and I'm not going to be home to receive it, due to travel.

I called Fedex, who said they'd make it an overnight package as long as I cleared it with Verizon, who told me to screw off. I even offered more money to both parties, but they didn't want it.

Any case suggestions for the 6+? I picked up the Apple black leather one but have my reservations.

You can place a vacation hold with FedEx.

For cases, I'm waiting for this one to get delivered:
