Messing around with Kubuntu 12.04 beta. I am surprised at how much snappier and faster it is than Mint 12 KDE.

@ Liquid:

That looks damn nice! I love the Aw0ken icon theme. It's been a while since I have had that installed (10.04). I think I will throw it on my Clevo M860TU box.

Can you share a link to that wallpaper?

I was curious myself and found it: http://zero7.org/blog/2011/11/08/wallpaper-abstract-3d-cubos-abstrato-cubos-3d/

Actually if you see a wallpaper that's cool it's amazing how easy it is to do a web search if you describe the image well enough. I simply did a Bing image search on 'gray 3d blocks wallpaper' and voilà, this wallpaper was at the end of the top row of image results along with some other very cool images. Just a tip I pass along these days as I have some very cool wallpapers I wasn't even looking for this way along with exactly what I was looking for.

This is my linux desktop while running steam using playonlinux. I didn't get Batman: Arkham Asylum to run yet and I am still in the process of installing Counter-Strike: Source and all my other games. Currently I am testing this on my Dell Optiplex 755, which doesn't have a blue-ray drive and is preventing me from using backup and restore to use my backups to install all my games. When I'm done testing I'll put it on my custom built computer with the Asus Rampage III Formula motherboard. So far I don't like Fedora 16 though and may decide to go back to using Fedora 13. This screenshot is showing Fedora 16 64-bit.

Wait a minute... can you purchase and play games on steam via Wine on Linux? or does there need to be a native port or some sort along with that?

I wonder if anyone has gotten BF3 working on Linux yet through wine.

Sort of and no.

Some games work most dont. From my personal experience the games that do work are always missing graphics settings or have awful performance compared to windows.

Be wary of the wine appdb as well nobody follows the rules for game ranking. Cant count how many times i have gotten excited to see a game i like get a ton of plat and gold reviews just to find out it should have never been more than silver.

Here is a good example.

He rates it gold yet tanks are invisible and it has serious graphic glitches. On top of that multiplayer dont work in BF2 so it should automatically be silver or less.

ok. I run debian 6.0.5 64 bit with gnome (had I wicked openbox but a sour package from sid took it out. never again. i'm stable only now.) gnome 2.30.2, theme clearlooks/darklooks, icons mist. I can add the conky and wallpaper if anyone wants it.

My Debian desktop running IceWM.

As I always have windows open inside which I work, I usually don't get to see the desktop, therefore my desktop is not decorated.

Playing around with Kubuntu. I like it so far, I kinda like the widgets too. Trying a different approach to the desktop, entirely widgets, but with one section to dump crap (which is basically what my desktop has always been) but now it's more organized since I have my launchers separate. Then status stuff on the side.

just testing out file transfers in that screenshot to check the network widget :p

I officially installed Steam on Ubuntu 12.05.2 and decided to show everyone. It happens to be running on a virtual machine created with VMware Player, but it's almost like running it on a Physical installation of Ubuntu or using it as the host OS (Operating System) anyway. I just happen to be using a virtual machine for testing purposes and will do a physical installation along with a tutorial later.
