No it didn't. The issue with steelseries is unsolvable. Everyone online is still complaining after 6 years. No driver or firmware fixes. Steelseries is dead in the water for me I will NEVER buy another product from them. Shame because skillup constantly is sponsored by steelseries so a ton of people buy it.

My only experience with SteelSeries was also a disappointment, but I hadn't put much weight in it, as I kind of thought of it as an n=1 kind of deal.

Back in 2018 when I was trying to find a replacement for my beloved (but dying) Logitech G500 I ordered a SteelSeries Rival.

It was pretty OK except for one thing. The pointer moved on its own, which I was not exactly a fan of.

I wound up returning it because of this issue.

As an aside, I still miss the G500. It was my favorite mouse of all time, seen here in its worn state near end of life:

I got some new EPBT Kavala keycaps to add a bit of colour.

Considering they are made of PBT just like the previous set they feel totally different to the touch, they are silky smooth somehow.

Rii 518BT for when I don't feel like taking my mouse and larger KB with my Legion Go. Fits perfectly under the lid. Was expecting a mini USB port due to the product page pictures, came with a USB C port instead.
Cons:
-have to get used to typing on it.
-rubberized coating.......

I don't know what a Legion Go is, but that looks absolutely atrocious to type on.

I get that it is compact and portable, but if I had to use that, I think I'd probably just type on my phone instead, because thenI don't have to carry anything at all :p

Oh god, please say you're kiddy about the Go, it's a Windows handheld, it's hard to tell these dark days.
Anyway, it's for games that can't pull up the onscreen KB in games like Genshin Impact on the login screen. It's ok for 15 bucks.

I hear it's one of the friendlier (in terms of gameplay/unlocking stuff) gacha but I haven't played it and won't touch the genre.

Nice. I've been thinking about picking up a newer Naga after confirming I could run the SW offline as needed. I wouldn't mind giving Razer's keypads a try, and always wanted to try the predecessor (Belkin N52), but it's hard to justify as I already have a couple keypads.

I'm assuming you're talking about Genshin? I seen a lot of reviewers play it when testing phones and stuff like ETA Prime, thought I give it a try. Looks like the rumors were from the anti cheat staying active after closing and uninstalling, they since have fixed it.
Anyway, new stuff at Dollar (twenty-five, unless marked) Tree Plus...... COME GET YOUR GAME ON!!!!
The mouse and earbuds weigh less than my Soundcore Liberty 4 NC, box including.....
I'm halfway tempted to test them out, surprised we didn't get any keyboards. Labor costs might've been too much putting in the keys.

New keyboard build. GMMK 2 96% ANSI (QMK VIA with SignalRGB interrogation) Kailh Box White switches, tape modded PCB, switch and stab pads, Glorious screwin stabs (lubed). I vinyl wrapped the deck, and used a purple gradient keycaps.

that's beautiful. how do you feel about the 96% layout? i considered trying one when i was keyboard shopping a bit ago but i figured it would be a little too difficult to adapt to
 
The arrows threw me off for a little while with my 75+ (same placement as 96). Frequent use and maybe some extra time practicing and I think anyone can adjust quickly. Probably best to stay away from a full keyboard while adjusting though.

Thank you. I have gotten use to it. It takes time, but once you do its really nice. The customization ability of VIA makes it super easy to get use to. The zero on the numpad side is the hardest part to get use to. Its small and kind of hard to hit without looking at the keyboard. Its a memory thing and I will get use to it after a while.
 
Can u guys recommend a mechanical keyboard? Does it make sense to just buy a cheap one to 'get going' or should I invest in a 'good one' right away? The only ones I have some familiarity with - are Keychron models - but, it's only because I've researched it a little. I have seen some Razer and Red Dragon ones - but, some of them are cheaper - so, I was wondering if I should take a chance with something like that for now?
Keychron keyboards are like $150 and up here - well, for a good one.
 
QC for Keychron seems poor from what I've seen posted. Red Dragon and similar I'd avoid altogether. Do you have anything in mind for switch type (clicky, linear, tactile)? What sort of functionality do you want, macros, programmable, extra keys, etc.? Full size or something else?

Keychron are absolutely fine, I'm about to buy my second one.
 
I've purchased several Keychrons over the past 5+ years. Build quality always has been solid, but Bluetooth connectivity to PC was lousy. It's a common complaint with Keychron. Ironically, BT to Apple devices (MacBook, iPad Pro, iPhone) worked fine.

I'm strongly considering Keychron's new Q1 HE which should be released this month or in June. Just waiting on some reviews. The Q1 HE has 2.4GHz wireless so no need to mess with BT.

Seconded (thirded?). I have two S1 boards and haven't had the first issue with either of them. Suuuuper solid and surprisingly heavy, and no stupid bloated and buggy software required to use them!

I completely forgot about this thread--for some reason I either stopped getting notifications about it or I missed one. I bought one of these after reading this post, and I love it. I got the 37gf mint switches.

Got a "your product is now in-stock" notice from Keychron, this morning. Impulse overwhelmed reason and I bought the Q1 HE sitting in my cart. Hope I don't regret it.

I have Keychron Q10 ISO in Navy Blue and a translucent V6 ANSI in transit. The V6 will be for my sister but I'm intrigued how it sounds and feels in case of future V10 urges...

The V6 will have a PC plate while the Q10 will go brass plate just like the Q8 I already have.

Well, if the reviews I've read recently are anywhere near accurate & unbiased, it's supposedly a dream to type on, but as usual, YMMV, since what works for some may or may not work for others, so good luck & please post your thoughts whenever you can....

If the only they made a full-sized one, I'd probably buy one, if for nothing else but to try it out those supposedly magnificent maglev keys :D

After just a few hours gaming/typing on this keyboard I'm sold on magnetic switches. The customization options are pretty fucking cool. I'll give this keyboard a real workout over the next few days. I've got several 100+ page documents to edit/rewrite before the end of the month.
 
I got the V6 all assembled, it is huge compared to the V8:

If you want a proper noisy keyboard, the V series is the one to get. For the fun of it when I received the barebones I plugged in one of the Kailh Box Summer clicky switches with a PBT Cherry keycap. It was LOUD. The perfect weapon if you want to annoy your colleagues in the office. :D

But since that keyboard wasn't for me I promptly swapped the steel plate for a PC plate, added 8 Durock v2 stabs that had been holee modded with poron strips, plugged in 108 Gateron Pro 3.0 Yellow switches and topped it off with the only Cherry PBT key cap set still available to buy from Keychron.

End result, a very very smooth keyboard to use and pretty silent.

Next is to box it up and send it off to the sister.

The Q10 has arrived as well, but as it is for my birthday it will be a month or so until I can assemble it.
 
I've been using my new Keychron Q1 HE for a few days and love just about everything it has to offer. Build quality is outstanding. You could use this heavy keyboard as a bludgeoning weapon if you run out of ammo during the zombie apocalypse. Adding 2.4GHz wireless was long overdue and works so much better than Bluetooth. I'm now fully converted to magnetic switches. Typing on my other mechanical keyboards just feels wrong now.

I'm going to get a different set of keycaps. I don't get why keyboard manufacturers put non-shine through caps on keyboards with LEDs. A minor annoyance is not being able to tell if CAPS LOCK is active since you can't see any lighting change. There's no height adjustment so I got a pair of little flip up risers ($7 Amazon) to raise the keyboard to a more comfortable typing position.

My only real complaint is that the hot swappable switches don't wanna be swapped. I've tried several different tools, but just can't remove any of the switches. I prefer a lighter touch, so bought a set of Gateron Dawn magnetic switches along with the keyboard. I'm worried about damaging my keyboard if I use too much force to pull the switches so am at a loss as to what to do. -- SEE EDIT BELOW!!

I'm very pleased with this Q1 HE. At $220, it ain't cheap, but I think it's well worth the price.

EDIT: I checked a few YT videos and found a solution. By using a watch band removal tool, I was able to pry up the switch with ease. Just 78 more switches to go! (y)

Don't be mad about that! Be proud! This means you can stock up on them because no one else even knows about them. Kinda like all the Keytronic boards I have. ;) Or back when a Model M was a 'noisy heavy keyboard' that no one wanted. :D

So awesome! I love how great cases just continue to live on. And the amount of drives you can still add to that! I counted at least 5x 3.5" including the floppy spot on the front. :eek:

Heck, those four screw holes near the top/back look like good candidates. Get a multi-sized screw on rubber foot kit, and pick the size that works the best. They usually come with wood screws. Obviously don't use those. Find screws with the same thread size as the keyboard comes with, but longer (make sure they have a large enough head to catch in the feet, or get a bunch of small washers), and screw them into those holes.

The feet would have to be rather narrow and tall, or they would stick off the sides and be weird, but I think with some searching this is totally doable.

Had I not found that I adapted to the angle much faster than I anticipated, I totally would have gone down this path. Might take a little hunting to find small enough feet (most I can find are too large, but I think it would totally be possible.

(there are plenty to stick on ones that are smaller, but I'd be concerned about them constantly coming off, with something this heavy that sees this much movement. This might even be an opportunity to 3D print something custom that will fit well)

Sometimes when no one makes what you want, you just have to get a little creative and make it happen yourself :p

Glad to hear someone using this, particularly with the HE switches. I really hope the industry can standardize on HE switches and PCBs/sensors that are hot swap, and compatible with QMK/ZMK/Bazecor/Chrysalis open source firmware/config software. There have been a few attempts over the years from Wooting to SILOBeam/InputClub etc... but thankfully Gateron is making use of a couple of HE type switches. Now, the only issue is standardizing open source firmware and software support for HE hotswap switches, so you're not dependent on proprietary configurators for each board that uses them. When all this is done then hopefully it will mean that software will start making use of/support for HE switches and all they can do with the analog activation etc...without need of some 3rd party software in the middle (often specific to the board). With luck more boards will start supporting mech HE . Enjoy the board!
