I had this annoying issue with Chrome bug (kept opening month-old pinned tabs every time I started browser, even after reset, clearing browsing data and cache, etc.). So I backed up both appdata/google/chrome folders to zip, deleted said folders, and reinstalled Chrome.
That fixed the issue, but it also lost my bookmarks. Now all I have is my bookmarks from when I stopped syncing everything across devices, which was weeks ago. So I lost a lot of bookmarks. But when I drop the bookmarks file from my backup zip to where it goes in the appdata folder, nothing happens; I get the same old set of bookmarks. I even tried restoring the entire appdata/google/chrome folder; the bug hasn't returned, but neither have the bookmarks.
I also tried renaming the backed-up bookmarks.bak to bookmarks and overwriting current bookmarks with it, nada.
So where the Hell does Chrome REALLY store bookmarks?
