So my son managed to get a 3080 FTW3 Ultra on EVGA's queue system and now needs to build his new PC around it (currently has 2500K ITX with 1050 ti and 450W PSU). He will be moving to 1440p 120hz+ monitor. So the question is: Ryzen 5 5600X on a B550 or Intel 11400F on a Z590/B560? or wait for Intel 12000 series?

I’d go with whatever is cheaper. Both are good CPU’s. Just decide what you want. Team intel or Team AMD.

I’d go AMD myself just because the 5000 series are really nice. And I’m not a fan of those super entry level Intel builds. Think you’d be getting more bang for your buck with AMD.

Id wait and see what the 12400 has to offer. There have been some leaks that have suggested its going to be a beast.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll wait to see the reports of 1440p gaming on the new 12000's to see if they offer any serious advantage. If not, maybe they will force the prices of the 5600x or the 11400F to fall.

Asus board with a Ryzen 5000 series CPU.

I have a disdain for ASUS in general, but their incompetence has been put on show with their latest 500 series AMD chipset boards. Despite how long 5000 series chips have been out, many people (including myself) have still been getting NEW boards with ancient BIOS revisions that only support 3000 series Ryzen parts. Many of their boards don't support BIOS recovery/flashback to get a BIOS revision that supports 5000 series parts, so you have to beg, borrow or steal some 3000 series chip to flash your board, or RMA it in hopes you can get another board that does work with 5000 series chips.

This is despite the fact that ASUS has been plastering their boards with "Ryzen 5000 ready" and "Windows 11 Ready" stickers.

If going for a 5600x, stick with the B550. Unless you want to pay premium for the 12 series components, not just the CPU but the board and memory, I would stick with AMD for that reason alone.

I'm in the same boat, time to replace a 8 1/2 year old Intel i5-4670K build. I'm going with AMD for the first time since an Athlon 64 I think.

Thinking Asus B550-F wifi and 5600X. I have a RTX 2060 from the old build.

I'm thinking of ordering now cause everything is 10% off with the Newegg coupon 2021EGGIUPS.

Make sure you have a Ryzen 3000 series CPU on standby in case you get a board with an old BIOS incompatible with 5000 series chips.

I might order the motherboard from Amazon then, thanks. Easy returns.

So now that we know all about Alder Lake, are thoughts still the same? 12600KF is slightly cheaper than a 5600X. Platform-wise I calculate about $100-$150 more for Alder Lake.

I think 5600X deals should come soon since all the other 5000s are on sale pretty cheap. I’m waiting got a $229 5600X deal.
