Star Wars: Squadrons

Star Wars: Squadrons– Free Content Update Trailer

B-Wing!

Flies like a brick, but can shoot a huge barrage from a decent range. Did surprisingly well in it in the dogfight mode. Thought it would be useless but was wrong. Problem is you can't get too close to space wreckage otherwise that long bottom wing gets caught onto things.

My son is playing this currently. Can he keep playing single player after the campaign to earn ship upgrades?

VKB Gladiator NXT works pretty well. May need a separate throttle since using the one on the stick is a bit awkward and you don't quite have enough buttons for everything.

I have not finished the campaign so not sure if you earn all the upgrades via campaign single player or you have to play multi for upgrades.

This game is in sale for $24 for all platforms. Worth the price?
Only $14 on Epic. It's OK, I personally am skipping it until something else comes out that has me subscribing to Origin Premier again.

Wow, that's a good deal. If you buy from the Microsoft store, can you play on XBOX and PC?

Its okay. I've warmed up a bit more to it in multiplayer. Haven't tried the campaign. At $14 it is a good buy.

I also picked it for $14 on Epic few days after getting our Reverb G2 and its pretty cool. I started playing Half Life Alyx a couple days before, and its not quite as captivating but definitely worth $14 lol

Nice to know weeks after launch they haven't figured out how to make a targetting system. I can't see what is so hard about it, there are what, 4 enemy players on a map at a given time? 4 possible targets? Why is it so hard for the game to detect something right in front of you?

Ace Combat games have been getting it right for decades, and they can have dozens of targets within range at the same time yet manage to make locking sensible. Point nose, click lock button, prioritize targets closest to nose direction and range. You can cycle through a dozen in 6 seconds. This game you'll mash away at the lock button and the game fails to lock a single lockable target within a few miles for 5-10 clicks.

Pathetic, shit tier game.

Press 5 and you can choose what type of target you want to lock from either side and then cycle those. Can you can also bind a button to lock whatever you are pointing at. It's not that hard.

This is the best multiplayer game in my roster. Well worth $40 let alone whatever it goes for now.

Bump for a freaking incredible game! Can’t get enough of Fleet Battles. Once you master ALL of your ships abilities the gameplay is very immersive and deep. Shields front, shields to rear, power to engines, overcharge shields, boost, drift, ion loadouts for capital ship shields, proton loadouts for hull damage, farming AI for morale, transfering all power to lasers, this is an almost pornographic amount of Star Wars. I hope to god they develop this further or make another. Love it!

this is more sim versus arcade?...player base seems to be dropping dramatically every month on PC...

It’s arcade. I personally didn’t find it very interesting. War thunder is far more interesting to me IMO.

I wouldn’t trust steam charts for player count since the game could be played via Xbox game pass PC and EA Play.

Not to mention origin as well as epic game store.

Most people still use steam, so it is likely a fair indicator of overall player trend and count, maybe 1/3rd of people using other platforms combined.

The player count is higher than Steam shows but it's still dropped a bit. It's solid, if anything they should have aimed higher with it then they did for content. People love it and it's got dedicated groups. It's arcadey enough to work.

anyone still playing this?...is the multiplayer active?

Not really. Problem is I got used to it on a HOTAS, and that means re-arranging my desk every time I fire it up. It does help a lot with thrust but it seems like the best players use mouse/keyboard because it is ultimately a point and click game.

I'm sure there is a small dedicated player base. The skill ceiling can be fairly high though. The few people that really know how the systems work do very, very well.

I hear it's a weird mix between arcade and sim...I'm not sure why the developers didn't just commit to one instead of a middle ground...I hear the single player is pretty decent so I'm going to at least play that

The missions for the single player are OK, but the story parts are pretty bad.

I mean, it's fine. The flying model is just "off" though, and it still has the "sim" elements of having to manually adjust where you want your power focused, which turns off the more Arcady type players. So it's not X-Wing/TIE-Fighter turning off the Sim guys, and it's not casual enough for the Arcade guys. It's OK for a playthrough, but I never even considered going online with it.

Its worth a playthrough if you can get it cheap. Cheaper than its initial $30 MSRP.

this game is legit unplayable for me using kb/m...I'm a big proponent of kb/m and use them in every game (even games people say are best played with a controller)...but Squadrons is ridiculously convoluted with kb/m...there seems like dozens of keys and key combos you need to remap...seems geared towards the sim crowd

I played the first level or so and it seems fun but I'm not a fan of playing the entire game in the cockpit of the various starfighters...I didn't realize the entire game would be like this...I'm glad I didn't pay for this (got it free through Prime Gaming)

Sounds like you just need to git gud.

I actually quit playing because the kb/m controls were terrible...one of the rare games where I can say that a controller is required

I kept trying to play but multiplayer is dead. Still fun to play a few rounds against the AI in VR though.
