Scalper group says it has ‘no regrets’ over reselling 3,500 Playstation 5 consoles

Can't speak for everyone but when I resold scores of Wiis and other hardware (e.g., hard drives after the flood, etc.) over a decade ago, yes, I had a private corporation for my side hustle and paid income taxes on the profits. I generally made $10-20k/yr (on top of the $20ish-k/yr I made as a graduate TA) though so the tax rate was low.

These posts about disappointing people over the holidays during a pandemic by depriving them the latest $500 video game console speak volumes to how fucked up and entitled our stupid society can be.

Hats off to modern resellers. Seems more complicated than when I was doing it to put myself through school.

I have no issue with reselling if your legitimately doing it, paying taxes, and basically participating in the economy in a legitimate fashion.

I have issue with the scalpers I (personally) know that don't, they don't have jobs, they don't contribute, they just scalp items all day long out of trailers in Arizona, bitch when they get caught by the IRS, and spend their money on drugs.

I have issues with the scalpers that operate on a major scale and avoid tax burden, if they don't I don't care because its now a business. Greasy as it maybe, they are far from the only greasy business model.

Pure parasites. No value added to the products. Actually negative value; well of course they benefit. I guess they could be begging on the street instead.

While I agree in principle, that’s tough to do during COVID.

Nah, not really. Everyone has curb side pickup now. Although, you'd probably have to have armed guards escort the employee to the car for delivery.

“Lots of our community have been furloughed, made redundant, or at some form of disadvantage due the pandemic,” it said.
“These people have managed to cover their bills, put food on the table and supply Christmas presents to their children.
“It may be unfortunate that a child wont wake up to a PS5 this Christmas, but another child may have woken up to nothing. We have no regrets.”

A Christmas Miracle for some, coal for others. At least they found a way to stop hunger.

I dont give a f. Scalping is immoral bullshit. Lets buy something at manufacturer recommended price, jack it up 300% and sell it to people for a profit, but wait lets do it by buying 100% of available stock that way they are completely.forced to pay our mafia rates.

Fuck them. If they had the money to buy 3000 PS5s they had the money to pay thier bills and thier christmas gifts are 1 to 10 bucks each at fuckin walmart.

There is no justification for the extortion of a market and then bullshit using peoples emotion to appeal to them as if its ok.

What about all the fucking children that begged for a year to get a ps5 and thier mom pulled double shifts to pay 599 for it but nooooo she cant get it because its $3200 fucking dollars on ebay.

Fuck them royally

Nobody is forced to pay anything. Also, these are luxury items. Your anger would make perfect sense if it was an essential item though.

The problem is the baseline price for consoles have been the same for the last 4 gens. These guys are preying on people but even people familiar with gaming gamers are scalping gamers for X-mas

Oh, so let's wait for them to get their bloody, yes bloody hands on bread and milk next!!💪😡

Those poor, entitled children. If mom really loved them, she would have opened an Onlyfans page, and shown the goods on cam so she'd have the $3200.

Oh my the entitlement rage.

That's capitalism baby. The retailer got their money, the manufacturer got their money, the bot software company got their money, and the scalper got some money. If you think about it that's way better for the economy than just selling products from the retailer to you. This shit generates wealth!

If you didn't get one when you wanted one you should have licensed the bot software or stop being poor. if you can't afford $2500 for a PS5 then you don't deserve one and it will go to a better person.

Taco don't understand why there's a camp that says scalpers don't do anything wrong. Wtf mates? Your acting like it is some fine business model and they shouldn't be ashamed of doing what their doing. Wtf?

Replace PS5 or gx3080 with some other non essential item that you DONT NEED, but would so gladly want to acquire nd we'd like to see how that will bode for you, mates.

Taco luvs u, but this "nothing wrong" is going a bit too far!

Edit: here's what it should be selling for, but got "cleaned out"...View attachment 303288

Nd here's what scalpers want for it.

View attachment 303290

If you think this is fine nd you dont see anything wrong with this picture. Well, taco think you need to eat a sour taco instead of juicy Thanksgiving Turkey. Out!

😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡❗❗❗❗❗❗❗❗❗

Yes nothing wrong with this picture. If they sell at that price so be it. We have a society that glorifies storage bin auctions.... and where people make a living doing "retail arbitrage", and in some cases posting videos of their awesome retail arbitrage skills. I'm supposed to be high fiving the guy on youtube that grabs $200 of the right clearance woman's eyeliner and turns it around for 3k on Amazon. But if someone snags a PS5 and resells it for what the market will bare, I am supposed to get pissed off cause somewhere there is a Taco without a PS5 under the tree. :) How about those ladies that could have got a good clearance deal on some makeup if some guy didn't walk in with his Amazon Price check app and snag it all up. I am supposed to feel great for the "gambler" or some old cooky antique loving old man that buys some ones grandfathers storage locker for a $100 after they died and the family didn't know to pay the storage locker bill.

Na fuck that... our society is capitalist to the core... and we glorify people taking advantage of other people EVERY Freaking day. In this case ZERO people where hurt.... again BLAME the Walmarts of the world who can't be arsed to take steps to keep dealers from buying more then one unit, or from people creating multiple accounts. We all know how easy it would be to keep the people doing this on MASS from buying its almost comical. Nothing illegal here... nothing even close to a moral issue either. Again we watch TV shows of people buying peoples lost valuables and call it entertainment.... this isn't even close to that level of evil.

You have no idea how stubborn I can be and how stupid things I have done out of principle and anger fueled self-righteousness that I may or may not have regret afterwards... Anway, selling things for profit is one thing, taking advantage of peoples needs just in a time when christmas and such are coming up is another.
A PS5 is not a need, it’s a want.
This is arbitrage. People who have more money than time are trading money to have earlier access to the PS5.

People who have time and technical know how are trading those commodities for early access in exchange for a profit.

If we're always guided by other people's thoughts, what's the point of having our own?

The problem is the baseline price for consoles have been the same for the last 4 gens. These guys are preying on people but even people familiar with gaming gamers are scalping gamers for X-mas
If they were priced at $800 their likely would not be a shortage and we wouldn’t have to worry about scalpers... would that be better?

I am not sure if you need to use saving to participate in those short term transaction, but source for that statement ?

If you are talking about the UK:
https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula...tepensionwealthgreatbritainjuly2012tojune2014

Most household has significantly more than $1000 in saving

Having use the $, maybe you mean in the USA, in the USA the median net household worth was of 121K:

https://www.census.gov/content/dam/Census/library/publications/2019/demo/p70br-166.pdf
In 2016, most household had over 65K in a retirement account, over 45k in stocks, over 5000 in their bank account, etc...
Remember the post you quoted (or another right after) I said median savings, which is much less statically.

Post Pandemic is even worse I assume.

There's a huge economic wealth gap in the US now. Middle class feels like it is now 100K+, if your below that, without strong saving habits a person/family will struggle.

Well it depends on how many kids you have and where you live. 60K is average, if you want to live in Cali and pay a million for a house or have six kids - yeah 100k is poor. Personally, I can live off way less than 60k. A lot of people just don't know how to budget or control their spending.

You are probably just joking, but hearing some people/politician talk, they seem to mistake money being spent with wealth being generated quite often, the only wealth is the PS5 itself here.

If you didn't get one when you wanted one you should have licensed the bot software or stop being poor. if you can't afford $2500 for a PS5 then you don't deserve one and it will go to a better person.
That is true, the current system make it easier for the richer and people that want it more to have it before the other people if they want.

A PS5 is not a need, it’s a want.
Yes, but that just part of a conversation and do not stop it.

Take owning a house, it is a want certainly not a need same would go for Net Neutrality or a long list, but most society still consider citizen access to property has an important want and a social good to protect (maybe it is mixing correlation with causation), access to a want (that will be almost anything we ever do or buy) can still be judged has a social good to protect, a new console will have an hard time making the list or a sport car or a night glasses, but you get the point

I am also referring to median and not average and looking at the 49-50-51 percentiles. I think your link isn't working.

Wtf is this?! Better people? What is this, troll masters 2020?! Kidney, mate, that's twisted🥺

What I learned, there are a lot of scalpers on [H].
I don't know if any of you snagged a 3080 or some other unicorn right now... and DIDN'T turn it around.... well your dumb. Sell it and buy another one in a few months.

hilarious, you demand that your right and won't listen to anyone else, then demand everyone listen to you.

I'm not a fan of scalping, I don't need it to make a quick buck, and it legitimately makes things worse for others. Na, I'm an asshole, but I'm not a Chad.

I am not suggesting anyone buy or make a bot and snag 20 of them... I'm saying if by some miracle if I did snag one if I was trying. Ya I would probably have turned it around... and I don't blame ANY one for doing that right now. Buying 20 of them is annoying for consumers sure... but who do you blame the people that did that, or the retailers that allowed it. I have setup or helped people out with enough ecom sites over the years to know if it was allowed its because it was latterly ALLOWED to happen. There are multiple ways to ensure dealers are not buying your product, and that bots are not snipping posts.

I can agree with the latter half, retailers and manufacturers absolutely have control over this, they just don't care.

If everyone that achieve to get a new GPU would sell it tomorrow online (and not try to replace it for a month), would it not make things way way better for others (except for the pro scalper) ?

Probably not, isn't that what scalpers are already doing and have things improved?

It would "flood" the market, no ? How augmenting the offer without augmenting demand would not help ?

That is not what a scalpers is usually doing.

I guess if everyone just waited a month sure, but the reselling bit naa.

Cali and NY folk coming to a countryside near you. They will pay above market price, developers will begin to build more, driving up the price of living in once affordable areas.

It's a temporary, called "The Covid effect".

Naw, I'll just enjoy my 6800 with my new CX 48.

Materialism and FOMO is the reason scalping is successful. If people were patient and didn’t think they needed to have non-essential things right now then scalping would never exist.
