Looking for a $400 to $450 laptop for my 5 year old daughter to learn how to use a computer. It will also be for my wife to use around the house. It appears the 2 processors above fit the price range. They are both 15w processors, but it seems to me the Intel is rated for longer battery life. The Ryzen should be faster and have better graphics. Maybe the Vega graphics are tanking the battery. Anyone have any real world observations?

You can get Ryzen 4000 laptop for the similar money. For example: https://www.officedepot.com/a/products/3910514/Lenovo-IdeaPad-5-Laptop-156-Screen/

6 core should be way more future proof.

For ~$100 more you can get a 2 in 1. May be worth the money for the touch capabilities for kids.

Thanks. I hadn't even checked Office Depot. Funny, because I bought my only other laptop there, over 10 years ago. The 3500U is a 4 core 8 thread part. The 4500U is 6 cores with no SMT. I guess 6 real cores will definitely get the job done.

Update: Crap, in store only and none anywhere close.
