ever send in a factory warranty card from one a retro part? would be curious to see what happens if you tried to send a whole bunch of different ones in if anything would ever come of it
always wondered
I've got the warranty card for a new old stock bike I bought, older than me. Was thinking of sending it in for the lols, not sure if it'll make it anywhere though, the brand disappeared from the US a long time ago.

No, but I did send in a card for something I got for the kid and it came back as undeliverable. A real WTF moment…

When was the last motherboard made that could run an 8bit ISA bus card?

Anything with an ISA slot in it. 16 bit slots were backwards compatible with 8 bit cards, IIRC.

I believe you are correct. I remember we were still repairing machines that had them quite commonly, my first job at a local PC repair shop when I was 15 in the mid-90s. I wanna say most 486, 586, and some x686, but yeah, I'm gonna blame the brain fog of that era on a healthy enthusiasm for recreational drug use I had back then.

As I recall PCI slots were just starting to supplant them, but most new MBs back then we were using to build customs or replace boards with would have 1 or 2 PCI slots and the remainder would be ISA/EISA, though I think there was some issue where you could use 8bit cards in a 16bit slot but you couldn't mix and match both 8 bit and 16 bit cards?

Yeah casual google search for ISA motherboard is showing me definite stuff from the 686/early pentium days, all sorts of mid and late 90s MBs. So not as long as you would think. I'd be curious to know if any MBs shipped in the 2000s with them still, I bet so. I presume they were compatible with most if not all 32bit architectures.

Ok so this got me curious, apparently these guys are still manufacturing MBs with ISA slots for use with legacy hardware. It's not as uncommon as you may think. https://nixsys.com/blog/isa-slot-computers/motherboards-with-isa-slot

Makes sense frankly, imagine how many scientific and industrial specialty products or controllers were made for the architecture, that would be highly impractical/cost prohibitive to replace. I'd be money there's tons of nuclear launch/guidance type devices on custom ISA cards lol..😱
😨

Here's a reasonably priced one supporting modern CPUs: https://nixsys.com/nx71
