Radeon RX 7900 XT for $120 discount below MSRP

the XT was suppose to compete with the 4080 12GB that got changed to the 4070TI. but they made their bed when nvidia last minute "unlaunched" the 4080 12GB.
Nvidia playing 4D Chess.

1) Announce the *70 as the *80.
2) Take the gamer rage.
3) Trick AMD into thinking they've already played their hand.
4) AMD sets their pricing and drops their cards.
5) Nvidia, "Whoopsie, we hear you complaints and are renaming it back to the 70".
6) AMD is priced too high and the angry gamers have already stopped caring about the original announcement.

Genius.

don't give nvidia too much credit.. both of them were playing the same bs game thinking they could pull a fast one on consumers and nvidia got caught for it because they announced the specs before AMD.. if AMD had released theirs first it would of been the other way around. in the long run though i think AMD will benefit from it as long as the 7800XT isn't ungodly slower than the 7900XT(if they ever release it that is). nvidia should of released the the 4080 12gb as the 4070 non TI.

Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 XT Pulse Slides Down to $800

the Radeon RX 7900 XT Pulse by Sapphire, has seen a price correction. The card is now listed at $820 on American online retailer Newegg, with a -$20 coupon bringing it down to $800. At this price, the RX 7900 XT Pulse matches other cost-effective custom designs, such as the ASRock RX 7900 XT Phantom Gaming, and XFX RX 7900 XT Speedster Merc 310. Most premium custom-design RX 7900 XT cards have settled around the $850-mark. These include the ASRock RX 7900 XT Taichi, MSI RX 7900 XT Gaming Trio Classic, and the PowerColor RX 7900 XT Hellhound OC.

There are still a few cards that are either at the launch MSRP of $900 or beyond. These include the ASUS TUF Gaming RX 7900 XT OC, Sapphire RX 7900 XT NITRO+, and the PowerColor RX 7900 XT Red Devil OC. The ideal price for the RX 7900 XT is exactly where the market is driving it to (at or under $800), as it is under pressure from the RTX 4070 Ti. Some of the priciest RX 7900 XT cards comically overlap with the prices of the cheapest RX 7900 XTX.

A lot of it is early adopter tax. I got an open box RX 7900 XT for $680. It appears brand new and runs great. Excellent at this price point and quite an upgrade from a 3080 10GB.

Send me a link of that price!

Worth $749 for an open box?

Funky color.

I was about to pull the trigger on a 7900XT for $779.99 but the high idle power draw between 80-100watts when using multiple monitors prevented me from buying this product. I believe there is a defect in the 7900's silicon that prevents AMD from resolving this issue. It has been a known issue for over 4 months now.

I've heard this affects nvidia GPUs as well when running mutilple high refresh monitors. TBH there seems to be an amazing variety of claims from people who run into and don't run into this issue.

FYI The PowerColor Hellhound 7900XT is known to have loud coil whine. That is probably why that card was returned. If that does not bother you than go for it.

They're long gone, but it was Micro Center. I can show you my receipt if you like.

EDIT: From what I have read, the PowerColor Hellhound is not as well-built. I would not spend this much for an open box as it's only $50 off. On the plus side, in addition to this blue color, it can also do purple.

I ended up picking up a 6950XT Red Devil off Amazon for 649.99 It's got similar performance to 4070 ti with SAM on and I can under-volt it to get the power draw down. The 6950XT does not have the high idle power draw issue with mulitple monitors as the 7900 series. There are alot of people out there that are running a single 34" Widescreen monitor and will never experience this issue. As soon as you add a 2nd monitor 1440p or higher the wattage ramps up from like 11watt idle on the latest drivers to like 80-110watts. There are youtube videos that show this and it is mentioned in the release notes of AMD's drivers since the 7900 series launched.

I own the XFX Merc 7900XT and have two 1440P monitors. I found that it only spikes power usage if both are running at 144hz. If I set the monitors to 60hz, it idles at 10w-15w. If I set one monitor to 144hz and one left at 60hz, power draw is 40-45w. I keep seeing it mentioned it has to do with resolution of monitor configurations but that's not been my experience.

Depends on your preference. Since you have NVIDIA now, the obvious nod would go to staying with NVIDIA. I've got a 4080, a couple 4090s (one is boxed up to go to a buddy for his X3D build), and a couple 7900 XTX's. I'm enjoying the XTX's much more than the 6000 series...but if I had no cards I would definitely get NVIDIA first. AMD, for me, is more of a toy.

My challenge with the 7900 XT is it is only $100 more to go to the XTX which is actually a decent jump. So, IMO - get a 4070 Ti or get a 7900 XTX...
Why do you need so many cards?

Newest driver the behavior is different. 7900XTX Merc 310

Single monitor:
120hz 4K, 12bit, HDR -> 69w (this is about 10w lower than before)
120hz 4K, 12bit, SDR -> 37w (this is also lower than before, use to have to go to 8bit to get below 50w)
60hz 4K, 8bit, SDR -> 30w

2x Displays:
3440x1440p 8bit 60hz + 4K 12bit 120hz -> 106w

Does seem excessive with two displays with nothing really going on.

yeah, compared to my 6950XT with 2 4k 60hz & 1 1440P 165hz getting consistent 45w at idle desktop.
