Sweet thanks. Was looking at doing an i3 build but this is barely any more expensive.

Don't forget a video card. No IGP with the "F" processor. I looked, I didn't see the non-F for sale anywhere on their site.

That is friggin cheap. The 10400F is unequivocally the bang for the buck gaming processor right now. It's ridiculous how cheap this thing is everythere.

The Intel 10400 and 10100 have taken the place of the Ryzen 3600 and 3300X as the best budget gaming CPUs. About 6-9 months ago when you could find the Ryzen 3600 for $170 it was great, but now it's hard to find and Intel has slashed prices to rock bottom. I think anyone building a PC for up to $1000 or $1200 would do great with this CPU. Good stuff

Btw, what budget midrange motherboard would you guys recommend? I haven't built a PC in over 5 years, so kinda out of the loop.

Edit: I also checked Microcenter and they sell the same CPU for $129.Since I will also be buying a motherboard, should I just cancel the Staples order and go through MC?

For this model of processor? Just about all of the z490. (except low end asrock and the low end gigabyte).

For the edit, maybe, depends on the boards available at your microcenter.

Yes. MC offers the $20 bundle discount on top. I just built the following for someone in my family... nice little micro-ATX upgrade for cheap.
Intel 10100 CPU, $99
Asrock H470M Pro motherboard, $84 after bundle discount

The 10100/10400 come with a tiny stock cooler. A bonus when you're aiming for low cost.

That 10100 is a nice chip, picked up one myself. You might want to scrape off the included thermal paste and apply something else. Pretty sure that's why mine overheated and fried. At least Intel is replacing it under warranty.

Thanks for the heads up, unfortunately this was built and shipped to family 1300 miles away. Too late unless I go visit sometime.

Finally got the POS Friday... Thanks UPS... Will make for a nice second computer. Should run anything I through at it because the monitor is 2560x1080.
