Roughly how much performance increase do you get from i7 6700 setup over i7 4790 setup? 10-20% or more?

i.e. i7 4790(4GHz), Z97 mobo, 16GB DDR3 2400 vs i7 6700(4GHz), Z170 mobo, 16GB DDR4 2666

Price different between the two setup isn't much so it would really suck if your purchased new i7 4790 setup ~2-3 weeks ago.

The 6700K is actually a decent little bump up from the 4790 (not K), but not really more than 10-15% max. Definitely not worth going ape over, and definitely not worth getting gouged over.

Lots of people also don't want to turn over to DDR4 quite yet, even though DDR4 is nicely priced these days. I'm not quite ready for that hop, so i went with the Z97/4790K setup a month ago. At 4.6, this 4790K is easily a match for any 6700K (even an overclocked one).

One important factor that needs to be considered with gaming benchmarks is that often they are GPU limited. This can happen even at 1080P in many cases. A gaming benchmark that shows various CPUs tied because the benchmark is GPU limited doesn't mean one CPU isn't faster than the other; it means the benchmark is GPU limited...

While that might fall under the obvious & common sense category for most, there are a depressingly large number of people that don't seem to believe Skylake represents an IPC increase for gaming. In fact, it does.
