GPU prices — is the worst behind us ?

One thing is for sure, the prices will remain to what the market can bare. If people continue to buy graphics cards at absurd prices, the market will continue to price them at absurd prices.
agreed, but if mining is not a factor, i believe the price jump would not be as high and prices would normalize faster.

Was no PC porn in the 80's
PC and PDP users in the 1980s would say otherwise. ;)

I'm sure GPU manufacturers will implement some form of subscription based service to attempt to squeeze more money out of consumers if crypto mining is dead. Maybe drivers will expire and you have to buy the latest ones.

So no, the worst is probably not over yet, not until this subscription this and that yada nonsense dies off in every consumer product out there.

I wonder if ascii art would bypass the facebook content scanners for inappropriate content?

Vid card availability does seem to be improving to where things are occasionally in stock for brief moments of time.
Availability is getting better, I just checked Newegg, EVGA has a RTX 3080 12GB for $1800, still about six hundred dollars above MSRP.

Its nice to see EVGA offloading their stock to Newegg for inflated prices when they could work on selling these cards to their customers in the Que.

Have you ever thought they probably have contracts with distributors that sell to Newegg or they have contracts directly with Newegg? AIBs can't just sell on their own. Of course whiners have to assume (we know what assume means) they can just go out on their own. SMDH.

Oh, yeah, why's that?
Exposure to the general market. If you just want fanbois to buy then sell it from your website. Guarantee you won't sell as many as you will through normal retail channels. Name one AIB that only sells through their website. I'll hang up and wait...

Umm yeah Asus, EVGA and others all sell direct to the public and have for years. They are obligated to supply retailers but those minimums would be low enough for the AIB's to sell quite a few cards themselves. Hell even AMD sells direct.

Who could forget that? Crypto is only one component, however it's clearly a lot more major than you may realize. AMD's 6x surge in stock price in 2016 before they released Ryzen was not due to a pandemic or datacenter usage - it was due to RX480s flying off the shelves for crypto mining. You can look at the exponential rise in GPU prices before the pandemic to see that. It a major factor in making things cost competitive to bring production back to the US, despite all of our onerous environmental and labor cost issues.
Actually I don’t the rx480 was much of a reason for that gain. It marks a time when AMD became competitive again. A time when Intel finally began to see competition. CPU production is a MAJOR reason AMD came back to be a competitor in any market.

GPU’s from AMD were no where near competitive. In this case the rise had not much to do with Crypto.

My point is if you're going to care about your customers like EVGA says they do ( we know they don't) why would you split your stock when you set up a Que system to "care" for said customer?

It's stupid. Just get rid of the Que system and charge out the ass, at least then we'd feel better knowing you value having your bullshit out in the open rather than hiding behind a curtain of " caring".

Yeah but the person they were replying to seems to be upset that newegg are selling any EVGA cards and for all we know they are just getting contractually obligated minimums. I'm sure that they also don't want to alienate one of the larger US retailers for PC parts.

Edit: I think you're reading the comment you replied to as saying EVGA can't sell direct when I think they were just saying that can't only sell direct.

Honestly right now I cant see why one couldn't, literally anything with a gpu sells for way over list right now and they would make more selling direct, if I was in their shoes I would only sell the minimum to retailers and the rest direct for max profit. Imagine if Amazon entered the AIB business, I think they would have 0 issues selling everything they could make online... how about you?

They've already normalized. Some people are just living in the past and don't understand this is the normal going forward. MSRPs will not retreat.

Yes but shall we not forget that a founders card was $700, so an insanely priced AIB model should be an astoundingly high $1000 at most! So even with an insane AIB mark-up, that is $800 over Nvidia Founders price. So in simple maths that is 2X founders ed. + $400 for a newly price dropped EVGA.
What a bargain :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I hope Jensen Huang sees this message so the next time he announces a card, he can give us the real price of the product.

The slow but steady fall continues...

GPU Prices Dropped Another 9% in the First Half of March

GPU Availability and Pricing Update: February 2022

although inflated pricing isn't far from over yet, this month we are seeing the lowest GPU prices in over a year.

NVIDIA Quietly Informs AICs Of A 8-12% Drop In Cost For Its GPUs

NVIDIA has informed AICs of a decrease in its cost basis which it will be passing on to AICs and who will be passing it on to SIs (system integrators) in return. In other words, this lowering in cost of 8 to 12% is something that gamers can expect to happen in the next few weeks (after adjusting for inventory buffers of retailers).

The real question here is, how long until these trends turn into concrete purchasing options for the vast majority of gamers.

So far, it appears that the best estimations from AMD and Nvidia themselves are for late 2022 - which could just hold true if we stay on this current course.

Prices are plummeting when you factor in inflation. They're still high because they had very far to fall, but some cards are getting close to where they should be. The 3060TI and 6700XT are the closest (but still about $200 off IMO).

I told you folks that mass-production would return, once the manufacturing world figured out how to deal with Covid (just like yearly flu outbreaks!)

it will take about a year to return to normal, but the end is in-sight!

I wish I could be as optimistic. But the last two years has proven that corporate greed knows no bounds. Technology companies & retailers now know that they can charge these kinds of prices and people will gladly pay it. There's no reason for them to lower prices to what they were before this mess. This (and I hate to use the term) is the new normal. We will never see graphics cards at "MSRP" again.

Don't be fooled, prices are still absolutely ridiculous.
i bought a 3080 ti last week for just a little over what i paid for my 2080 ti fe more than two years ago ($1199 vs $1289) and that price difference was just the normal "AIB cooler + factory overclock premium". i didn't have to dedicated days upon days hoping to beat bots or anything like that, i just logged into the evga online store, selected what i wanted, and checked out.

the mid range cards are still not that easy to get, but it IS a sign that some relief is on the way.

mass-production would return

When did it stop, when did it return ?

I think to really talk about video card being made fully to respond to crazy demand like the previous mining boom, we should see 15-16 million unit a quarter like back in the days, 4 millions video card of intel in a short 4-5 months windows would be about the difference between now and the previous peak maybe.

If you are ready to pay $1,400 USD for a video card, you can buy it right now I think:

Or that one:

For it to work:
i just logged into the evga online store, selected what i wanted, and checked out.

Require to want something very expensive with not much demand and a bit of luck, but I can see it happen, considering that right now 2 of the 3080Ti Evga are not out of stock.

"Corporate greed" is irrelevant. Corprations weren't altruistic and then suddenly got greedy. They always have and always will attempt to make as much money as possible.

The reason prices are higher is demand is higher, and there will be unlimited demand as long as mining is profitable.
