I'm looking for a new KVM switch. I'm kind of of the fence between dual head and single monitor. I can always just get a straight DP switch for the second screen, and I think I might like to be able to switch them independently. I currently only need to control 2 machines, though I'd consider a 3-4 port if the price increase isn't too much.

Anyone have any suggestions? I've been looking around a bit and it seems like a lot of them have a bunch of reviews along the lines of "works most of the time" or "glitchy". Bonus if it does device emulation so the computer doesn't think the monitor got unplugged every time I switch the display to the other machine.

I'm currently using this combo. It's been very reliable for me so far:

4-Port USB Switch:

2-Port Displayport Switch
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08JQDMYMY

I use it with 4 computers. My main monitor has 1 DP and 2 HDMI inputs, so two of the computers are connected via displayport through the switch, and the other two are connected directly using HDMI.

It's less convenient having to press more than one button, having to switch the USB and Video separately, but I like the flexibility. No device emulation with the Displayport switch, but Windows always reverts my monitors to the correct layout automatically when I switch back.

Have you considered a software KVM? That is if both machines currently have their own screen.
