What are the advantages of using Direct X 12 Ultimate over standard Direct X 12? And is Ultimate a thing your GPU has to specifically support to use? Or does it work with all DX12 GPUs?

Without googling it, wasn't it just a detour from the decimal naming scheme?
Also I believe that it requires raytracing capable hardware.

After a quick look, hard to discern marketing points with actual difference (Variable rate shading for example always pop-up has DX12 ultimate (or mesh shaders) but seem to have been added to dx12 months before "ultimate" release).

Unification between PC and console seem being the big deal version change, one change for the users point of view seem what the Direct Raytracing 1.1 bring over Direct Raytracing 1.0:

Normally, DXR 1.1 should run on DXR 1.0 hardware if the vendor update the drivers.
