I'm looking to pick up a non RGB kit of 2 x 32GB for use with a 3950X, and eventually going to a 5800X3D or 5950X. I had ordered Crucial BL2K32G36C16U4B from both Amazon and Adorama as early as November. The Amazon order- got cancelled and it's been on backorder at Adorama, it looks like it's never going to come in stock. I've heard this is one of the better kits since, despite lacking a temp sensor, is 3600MHz 16-18-18-38 @ 1.35v. At this point I think I'm never going to find it.

So based on availability in the U.S. I'm starting to look at other kits. G.Skill has a 3600MHz 16-22-22-42 @ 1.45V and this seems like it might be the second best option. I've been out of the loop on memory ICs, especially on the 32GB sticks. I had been somewhat familiarized with the 16GB sticks having Hynix CJR/DJR, Micron Rev E, Samsung B Die etc... I have no clue what ICs this kit is hiding behind the heatspreaders.

Would this be the ideal kit to get? Will the loose subtimings be a big deal? Might it have some headroom to tighten the timings? I'd like to stay at 3600MHz since I know my current chip can do 1800 FCLK.

The larger CPU cache will make RAM performance less important in a larger number of programs so it is hard to say at this stage how much difference it will make.

The only advice I can give is that if you can't visually inspect the sticks, go with a 32GB * 2 kit as the 32GB sticks are still all going to be dual rank. Unfortunately, within the past year, most 16GB sticks are now single rank. Going to dual rank alone has a larger real world performance impact then the speeds/timings assuming the baseline is that of an average 3200 kit, and you don't have to worry as much about fighting motherboard compatibility.

I've been considering taking advantage of the relatively cheap 5900x. So I've been looking into these 2x32 sticks also. Everything I see is 18-22-22-42 starting at ~$220 on up. I haven't found any reasonable cas 16 in any of the normal sources. I wouldn't be surprised to find they aren't making them.

From what i've found, DDR4 quality has gone down the drain from around late last year. Everything has worse timings, and 16GB sticks now are single rank. Again though, as long as you get dual rank stuff at 3200mhz, that's about 90% there from a performance standpoint. Everything else you're paying out the ass for a minimal performance gain.

Reviving this old thread. Any tips for ensuring dual rank sticks on 32 GB total capacity?

Perhaps pay up a little for 4x8 GB sticks? I wanted 2x 16 dual rank but seems like that's not a safe bet
- Looking for DDR4 3200 CL16,was interested in Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x 16GB or 4x 8GB

This is for an AMD R5-5600X /w Gigabyte B550 AORUS PRO V2 board

Samsung b die kits will be dual rank and as far as I know there is still nothing else that can run close to 3600 14-14-14.

I am running 4x8GB of this in V1 of that MB at 4000c16 but it also does 3600 c14 3800c15

Running on a gig elite b550 w/3700x &5700xt working fine. Ram is ~$120 much lower than I paid.

If the kit you purchased some time ago is dual rank doesn't mean that newer revisions using the same model name still are.
If it is cheaper it is probably due to it having half the number of memory chips making it single rank.

If you want to save some cash and still get dual rank then 4x8GB of cheap 3200c16 would be fine.

Was looking at this for R5 5600 /w AOROS B550 PRO AC. What do you think for $130?

There are basically no 16Gb module kits on the market at this point that are dual rank. The only way you can be for sure certain you have dual rank is to buy used or buy a 64GB kit as most 32GB modules are dual rank.

Or go 4 slots single rank for similar effect (at least on Ryzen)

Should be a touch faster than 3200c16, Ryzen CPU idle power use does jump from ~4w to ~8w the moment you go over 3200 RAM just so you know but it is not a big deal.
