I'm having a hard time finding which Verizon 3g usb phone cards that will work with a TZ105. If anyone has it working on a TZ105, let me know what usb phone card you're using and the phone provider. Sonicwall support is telling me there are no verizon cards that will work right now. I have my Sonicwall vendor looking into it, but still haven't heard back from him either. So at this point I'm looking for any USB 3g phone card that is known to work.

Maybe not 100% what your looking for, but we were using a tz210 with a serria wireless usb card. Was actually little on the flaky side honestly

It appears Sonicwall is having a hard time keeping up with the usb phone card technology. Apparently it worked ok when it first came out but now they are lagging. I may have to get a cradlepoint which was supposed to be needless with the way the sonicwalls are now designed....uh intended to be used.

Yeah, Sonicwall has not kept up...

Verizon has a deal (and you can only get this through a Verizon Sales rep) where you can get a CradlePoint device with built in 3g/4g modem on a "backup" plan that only costs $10 per month.

That $10 per month gets your 25MB.. Should you actually end up using the connection, its $10 per GB after than 25MB.

We ended up getting one for each of our branch locations.

Just got an email from my sonicwall rep. He has escalated the ticket and says he will let me know late this afternoon. I'll update when I hear something. Appreciate the verizon info. I will likely be looking into that.

My sonicwall rep talked to the product specialist and was told the web site is current and accurate as to which usb phone cards will work.

This means any Verizon card should work. I mentioned to my rep about that cradlepoint offer through Verizon and he said if that is true, it is a very good data plan and would be worth investigating. So we will be looking into that.

Just got a final update on this. The web site I gave is accurate, but 4g is currently not available. I quote from my vendor:

"Verizon 4G won’t be available until a 5.9.x release of the firmware."

I am actually working with them right now trying to get a 4g AT&T card working. They gave me 2 cards that should work. I bought one of them, we have been unable to get it to work so far. They told me no Verizon cards are working at this time.

The CradlePoint device is definitely the best way to go....

Its a bit expensive ($499 IIRC) but will work with ANY router. It operates in "pass through" mode. Plug it into your 2nd WAN port on your router and configure that port for DHCP. The CradlePoint will relay whatever DHCP lease it gets from Verizon's network to your router.

One thing to keep in mind is that Verizon's 4G network is NATed. The address you receive is in the 10.x space. (unless you pay a substantial sum of money to get a static public IP from them). If you use IPSec VPNs, keep these pointers in mind:

NAT Traversal support needs to be enabled on BOTH sides of the IPSec tunnel.
For the VPN tunnel(s) to failover along with the internet connection you will HAVE to use Aggressive mode tunnels and "Key Identifiers" as your IKE IDs. Not sure how well this would work if the other tunnel end point is not a Sonicwall...

Yep I had already planned on those settings and my vendor confirmed. One thing I didn't realize which he mentioned is that the tunnel in aggressive mode, in this situation will need to be initiated from the remote location. Something like a ping command set to run every X number of minutes from a device at the remote office to a device at the main office.

My associate has been given the task of investigating the options and making the purchases. We may try the usb card first and if we have problems will purchase a cradlepoint. It won't be until after the new year when we move forward on this. Whatever we wind up doing, I will update this thread when it occurs.

Ping command not needed...

On your remote location sonicwall, you should have a Keep Alive option in the Advanced settings for each VPN tunnel. Turn this on and the remote Sonicwall will initiate the VPN and keep it up.
