I just built a partially new system, system in sig, but did a i9 13900k with 32GB DDR5 5600, and some other stuff plus parts from my current system mixed in. I had the RTX-3080 10GB, and it was good, but not great for 3840 X 1600res with Ultra game settings. I was so against getting a new nVidia 4000-Series card due to pricing, but thought the 4090 is at least a beast and truly a huge upgrade, but it's always out of stock.

So yesterday just for fun, was surfing the Best Buy website, yep 4090 out, but then also looked at the 4080 FE and it was in stock $1199, and I also had a very old $200 Gift Card in my wallet since a long time ago, used that too, and it was $999. Yes I wish I could've gotten the 4090, but it's so hard to get, plus it is another $500 higher or so. I am getting ripped for buying this card, everyone telling me what a terrible deal it is, for such little performance gain. and I don't disagree totally, yeah this card should be $999 tops, really should be $899, or just get the 4090. I understand that. But I got the 4080 FE and sticking with it for now.

What can my PC play now at what settings?

Alienware 38" Ultrawide 3840 X 1600res
i9 13900k
Z790 Motherboard
32GB DDR5-5600
RTX-4080 FE

I mostly play World of Warcraft at Ultra super settings, Halo Infinite, Destiny 2, might try New World MMO, and might get WarHammer 40k Darktide.

why do you give a shit what others think? are you happy with it? if so... fuck em

im about to have 3 4080's... everybody can kiss the fattest part of my ass if they dont like it

as for what can you play? just about any game out now at max or close to max settings

literally everything is a rip off right now... food, energy, gpu's... everything

the world is on fire, just enjoy your purchase

It's overkill for WOW LOL. But certainly that $200 off coupon takes the sting out of getting ripped off in the performance/price ratio. So enjoy it, run some FPS tests, and let us know if you get max framerates in all your games now.

If you are happy with its performance for the price you paid does it matter what others think? I bought the 3090 and 4090. The 3090 everyone thought was a massive waste of money (especially compared to the 3080) and the 4090 a bit less so. I am happy since I was and still currently am willing to pay for the performance.

That's all CPU limitations right? Because that game still looks really old.
Came out in 2004, so it's coming up on 20 years old. That is like playing an Atari 2600 game when the PlayStation 2 was saturating the market.

Is it safe to overclock the 4080???

I haven't overclocked a GPU since my GTX470s and sadly after 3 years of running stable they both died within a year of each other.

Yes, it overclocks fairly well due to how cool it runs.

4080 isn’t a bad card it’s just a ridiculously overpriced card.
Yep. Good GPU just badly priced. Imagine if they priced it the same as the 7900XTX. Which would be a dream and a interesting one at that.

I would still get the 7900XTX, :D

Still trying to figure out the OCing potential between the ref and AIBs with 3 8 pin connectors. In no hurry.

Now let see, AMD top part is matching Nvidia second part give or take what one is looking at. Would like to see Nvidia reduce the cost and slide in a 4080 Ti, cut down further AD102 with maybe 20 gb of ram and a cooler that makes sense.

So I haven't upgraded my system in almost 4 years and have been runnin an MSI 2080 RTX I think I paid close to $1K for when it came out. So in addition to doing a complete rebuild of the rig I was originally looking for a Radeon 7900 XTX but they are no where to be found but I was able to get on the wait list at Best Buy for an ASUS TUF 4080 that "should" be ready for pick up on the 28th at MSRP. I'm playing Darktide and the BG3 at the moment and the 2080 chugs with BG3 but doesn't seem to have a problem with Darktide.

Just bought a 4080 FE for 3440x1440 gaming. I like it a lot because it can run and max out my current system specs. A 4090 is hard to come by and will require me to do a total rebuild and new monitor to avoid a bottleneck. The 4090 difference in price over the 4080 is 33% and RT performance is around 40% above the 4080. Having no choice to pay above MSRP to get a 4090 and a total system rebuild, made the 4090 was a poor choice for me.

A lot of people are saying the 4090 is the way to go, but they haven’t factored in likely paying over MSRP and needing to upgrade pricey PC parts to justify it.

IMO, 4090 is just overkill for anything below 4k. $400 is still $400, and $1200 for a 4080, or $1000 for a 7900xtx that will give you outstanding 1440 performance makes more sense.

I for one like that you're buying shitty products and giving Nvidia more R&D money to come up with something better in the future. We all benefit.

It's not a shitty product. It's a shittily priced product for the consumer.

I have a 4080 FE, and I feel like it does everything I want it to do, runs cool, and runs games fine at 1440p. I just wish I could have gotten it for a lot less in light of the 4090's price.

They aren't "shitty products", people are just sheep parroting tech tubers like you are.

Wrong. It's a fantastic product, it's just expensive. Two different things: price and quality.

No, it's too expensive for what it is. There has never been a time I can remember when the top end product price/performance scaled linearly all the way back down the product stack. That's not how it works. You always pay top dollar for that last 15%. It is an $800 card disguised as a $1200 one. And that nonsense "12GB" version they were forced to pull is a 4070 at best misnamed to try to squeeze dollars out of consumers intentionally.

Nvidia deserves all the greed comments hurled at them.

I said it was expensive ;) a less. It definitely isn't an $800 product given the 7900xtx at $1k.

A good card poorly priced. I don't buy into your equation of price and performance. You can have a good performing card priced poorly IMO. You disagree obviously.
I didn't say a good performing card, I said a good card. So a $1598 4080 is an equally good card by your logic.
