6800/6900 Overclock Results

Thanks for the tip bl4C3y3 . I went down a rabbit hole with MPT. I ended up settling on 2600/2700 @ 1.2v and overclocked the memory to 2150MHz fast timing. All it needed was more voltage on the SoC. Changed the power limit to 380w +15% since the card now pulls in 434w. Left the TDC @ 320 default.

Howdy- I'm curious... should my base clock get lower when I apply an overclock? I haven't opened up GPU-Z in a while, and noticed that the base clock was in the 1500s. I thought it was a bit weird, so I went back to stock, rebooted, and then used the Adrenaline software to do the "auto overclock" and noticed that while the boost clock got higher, the base clock is low.

I don't recall this being normal?

I noticed the same recently, seems to be just a wonky side effect though since the performance is as expected.

Thanks- I didn't think it was always like this though? So maybe it's some strangeness from the drivers. I'm not going to iteratively roll back to figure out when this started happening.

Sorry to interrupt - anyone who has compared 6900 xt cards - maybe, when you were shopping for one - or you have read info/reviews on them or chatted with ppl who have one - in forums or what no - do you have an opinion on the MSI RX 6900 XT Gaming X Trio, Gigabyte OC and Asrock Phantom Gaming cards? As they compare to the reference? Just curious. I sometimes find these cards (used) for sale - the msi one is usually the cheapest. All I read about it is that the input filtering is good and sometimes, (the only negative thing I read so far), the hotspots are a concern.

Hello every one. Got new Daily oc for my 6900xt.

Take a look 🤩✌️ 6900xt toxic Extreme with mpt

Wow, what's your average gpu clock during the run?

Update just made it even higher soooo close of 26000 i almost Can taste it 🫣🤞

I Think avg is around 2830mhz

Next step is overclocking your wallet and turning it into a 7900 XTX...
Actually i Think i skip the 7000 Series. My friend Got oced 7900xt. And he only barely beats me ingame fps. The xtx sure is faster. But not worth it when i Got this fast a 6900xt 😅

I'm in the same boat, plus there are all the reports of the 7900 silicon having some late discovered hardware bugs that required neutering performance. Another point of comparison: an overclocked 6900XT is the same architecture as the Series X with more than twice the throughput, there isn't going to be any game released that isn't scalable to our cards until the Series X and PS5 are fully deprecated near the end of the decade.

Here's hoping that by next generation AMD gets some proper ray tracing support.

I think that puts me in 4th place for the Watercooled rankings as well. :)

Nice that it worked, I've added you to the list ... I think you still have some margin :)

26000 would be cool ! ... and certainly as your daily OC ... anyway first place :D, now we just need a link to the validated result :p
(no worries if you forgot to save your highest run, i recently found out that all the results are automatically saved under \Documents\3DMark\, which you can load and then publish)

So the race is between the XTXH and the chiller !

I've been testing and analyzing the 3dmark results a little more, and it seems the added points come from the higher memory clock on Nordskov's XTXH ?
BelowAmbient has about 70Mhz higher average clock, but 240Mhz lower memory clock ...
Screenshot_20230129_131326.png

And as a guess, I would say you both are still power limited ?
(because of the difference between clock and average in the 3dmark reports, at least on my side it looks like that when I'm power limited)

Good insight on the memory, how are you doing that Nordskov? Mine gets flaky above 2130 with tight timings, assume you're running loose? Any other modifications?

I had the same issue. Couldn't even go above 2120 MHz. Increase the SoC value (the box in red) until the card is stable. I did 100 at a time. Use timespy to check stability. 2150MHz score will be higher than 2125 MHz (I did 25MHz increments).

A few things I picked up with MPT
1. To calculate the TDC (A) (box in orange) for GFX is max wattage / voltage. In my case 434W / 1.2V = ~365A
2. Set wattage to 500W during testing and use HWmonitor (or something similar). The card will pull the wattage it needs for the overclock. My card needed 434W so 380W x 15% = 437W. Just be aware of the hotspot temp if you're aircooled.

3. My 2700MHz wall was due to this limit in my bios. Changed it to 3000MHz. YMMV

He has the XTXH chip ("sapphire toxic extreme xtxh"), it's a higher clocked chip and has 2250 MHz (18 Gbps) memory vs the normal 2000 MHz (16 Gbps).
So he can go to 2300+ while can only go to 2150 :)

I have never dared to touch those values, interesting, maybe i should give it a try ... not that there is much to win in my case, I get it stable at 2140 (with default of value 800), but not so much at 2150 ... or maybe the unsuccessful runs with 2140 are actually also caused by this value :D, so maybe I can get the other clocks higher when upping this value

yes, mine is also at 3000 ... on the other hand, I think you can turn many of the settings of in the first tab under "overdrive features", but not really sure

EDIT:
seems I'm wrong about your point 3, just checked, with me it's on 3000 in the "OC limits" tab, in the "frequency" tab it also shows 2660 (and with me that 2660 limit seems to have no impact):
Screenshot_20230130_003820.png
Screenshot_20230130_003838.png

(and I think it's better not to turn off any options in the first tab, it seems that the corresponding feature will then also be disabled in the driver)

Naeh my 6900xt xtxh is 16gbps memory with normal Max 2150ft ram. But put on bios from lc model so i Can run 2400mhz ram at ft2.

I did manage 25799 or so at Stock bios. But the lc bios with faster ram med a boost at 300 points more ✌️😁. I Can run everyday stable 26000gpu score now it really rocks

Thought I'd share the comparison table I made from scraping reviews to try and talk myself out of buying a new GPU (which I failed to do as I currently have both a 7900XTX and 4090 inbound, but one or both will be going back on FS/FT).

At my daily OC the 6900XT is within spitting distance of the 7900XT. In fact when you consider that the 7900XT has 5% more CU cores, it certainly seems like the new cards aren't taking advantage of the doubling of throughput per CU that AMD was touting. Whether this is a failed design or shit drivers that are going to drop some 'fine wine' ass kicking later remains to be seen. Still, our 2 year old $1000 cards keeping pace with a just released $900 card is always nice to see. (It would be interesting to see if Nordskov can outright match the 7900XT...)

An assumed 10% OC on the 7900XTX (I have an XFX merc coming) puts it 10-15% behind the 4090 in rasterization, but that raytracing advantage is insurmountable.
GPU Comparison Feb 2023.jpg

Blah. All these new 6900xt owners trying to push our 6800xts out of the top 10.

Hold the line!
Depending on how my inner monologue plays out once these new shiny cards arrive this week, I know where you could get a great deal on the 6th fastest 6900XT known to [H]... ;)

my 6900 xt does following:
TSE 12582 Here 7900xt is almost 1% slower
FSU: 17579 Here 7900xt is 7% slower
Port Royal: 12179 here 7900xt is around 12% faster
so pretty damn close to a 7900xt stock :D

As long as we refuse to discuss power efficiency, this is damn impressive! :)

If you let me know your core/mem/power draw I can add it to the chart.

During timespy extreme it runs at 450-500w
Firestrike Ultra more like 350-400w
Port Royal around 450w
Core speed avg around 2811mhz for timespy extreme and port royal
Firestrike ultra Avg clock speed 2939mhz (old bios) (havent tryed to run firestrike ultra with new bios)
gaming typically around 300-420w (metro exodus 400-420w)

Heres AC Valhalla maxed 1440p (around 280-320w)

COD MW 260-330w

Metro exodus Full ray traced aprox 400-450w

Overwatch 2 Maxed out 1440p 400w

That's pretty cool!

I wonder what changed.

When I first broke the 23000 graphics score on my 6900xt that was considered very good, and really pushing the limits.

Are we talking better drivers since then? Better silicon maturity? Winning the GPU lottery? Or are you just that much better at overclocking than I am? :p

hmm tbh i dont really know, in the start (january 22, i bought the card, pushed 24400 easy) then drivers got better, i repastet and got lower temps and raised vcore a bit now that temps was lower, then i was able to boost higher, and now with new lc bios, im breaking 26.000 for timespy daily, and the card litterelly just flyes in all games :D

Damn guys tryed newest driver 23.2.1 timespy a little lower now 25800 aprox. Buuuuut port royal jumped from 12288 to 13019!!!! Thats a massive jump lol. Practically closing the gap even more with the 7900xt

EDIT: Testet Modern warfare 2 benchmark with this driver.. it even improved here aswell, from 246avg fps to 255!!!! at high settings 1440p and fsr on quality, even beats my friends 7900xt he avg around 242 fps same settings, at native no fsr high settings, he gets 174fps i get 182 fps !! :D what a piece of love this driver deserves lol

Downloading now. Unfortunately its hard to interpret this as anything other than AMD intentionally holding back architectural raytracing improvements for last gen cards in order to make the new cards look more impressive for a couple months. For shame.

True But really aint complaining 🤞😁. this massive a boost to raytracing etc is really great !! Makes me believe these improvement to 6000 Series aint all we seen yet.
