Got an i7-8700k and asus prime z390a... just sent it one night while a little buzzed and swing for 64gb of some g.skill but seeing online now that it might only allow 16gb per slot on the dimm? I got two sticks at 32gb each. Also read some stuff about a bios update allowing for 32gb support per dimm but only for Intel 9th gen processors? Just wanna figure out if I need to send it back before I install... thanks for any tips fellas

Which G.Skill?

Intel says an i7-8700k can support up to 128GB. https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u...8700k-processor-12m-cache-up-to-4-70-ghz.html Also check the datasheet, volume 1, for the 8th/9th generation Intel Core processors. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/docs/processors/core/core-technical-resources.html Full power desktop chips are the "S" processor line. They support 32GB DIMMs.

Where did you see that bit about your board only supporting 32GB DIMMs with a 9th gen CPU? I don't see anything indicating the support added for 32GB DIMMs in version 0805 only applies to 9th gen processors in the release notes. It's theoretically possible Asus could only enable 32GB modules for 9th gen parts, but seems unlikely given that 8th and 9th gen parts are really the same generation (Coffee Lake) just with cores added and hyperthreading disabled on different chips.

Newegg: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Intel XMP 2.0 Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C18D-64GVK https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-64gb...m_mmc=snc-social-_-sr-_-20-374-003-_-08212021

That's what I ended up getting. Yea it seems the BIOS update went out in 2019 so I figure by now ot should be able to support higher amounts just wanted to double check before I rip open all the packaging and try getting it in. Thanks for any other tips or info.
