So tomorrow I have the opportunity to go to microcenter. It’s a two hour drive each way, but I’ll be in the area for a conference. It’s really bad timing as the new intel stuff is about to come out, but it is also time to upgrade. For the most part I only play games. I got 1k to spend. System is in sig2, what should I do?

If you want to keep that 1080P 144hz panel go with the i7 8700K route.. however:

I would just suggest upgrade your monitor to something modern and decent ultrawide 1440p with freesync and you won't have to even upgrade your system and you will be saving money to a worthy upgrade in the next couple of years, your system is still capable today, at the point I would think the bottleneck will be that monitor..

Sell your old parts and get a good freesync monitor :)
