I remember what some folks at work used to say fairly often:
"You smoke, you die"
"You smoke near your pc, it dies, then you die too"
If you must smoke while using your pc, then do it a favor & go outside, or at least go into a different room & close the door...or better just quit :D I know...
I had that issue too, and discovered what was causing it, at least part of it anyways:
Every single app is set as100% active all the time, with all background processes running wide open with all permissions on by default, and no limits whatsoever....
I had to go through every single app...
As with most things 'puter-related, the usual advice applies:
If you NEED it now, buy it now...if not, then don't & wait, but by Q4/25, more newer betta stuff will be out or forthcoming in 26-27, so then you will be right back in the same place as you are now.... but good luck with whatever...
Soooooo, to summarize/translate:
A bunch of gammin optimizations, that should have been there from day 1 but were not....that and a few bug fixes thrown in for good measure
S/n/O/o/Z/e :D
Same here.
I have been using 850X's exclusively since they came out (and the 750X's before that) in both my personal rigs & client builds too, as OS and storage drives, neveranottaproblemo whatsoever.....and the majority of my clients are CAD/imaging/database pro's that thrash on them hard for...
Looks nice, however, TT has the "Commander" fan controller that fits perfectly in that 5.25 slot in the front, and will allow you digitally control up to 10 fans (2 on each connector), which is what I did with mine back in the day :)
Been there, done that, too many times to count....neveranottaproblemo :)
I just love those little Elite boxes, so nice & compact, and reasonable performance for just a little $$, which is 100% ideal for office/POS apps....My wife uses 1 for her WFH healthcare stuff, and I have a few as spares...
Perhaps it's not faster than the 990P, but the 850X is at least as fast....within in a few MB/s anyways. And seeins how both are gen 4 drives rated for 7450/6900MB/s, I doubt that most average users could tell the difference anyways....
Hell, even on my slightly dated 11G mini-me box, I still...
As with most things involving technology, science, and/or the military, what they show you in a video or pictures or in PR's is only what they WANT you to see...... and while most folks are standing around going "wow, that's so cool", the developers are laughing their asses off because they know...
While it was actively being used, the battery life was always excellent, it was only towards the end of 1000's & 1000's of charge cycles did it start to degrade. IIRC, when I got rid of it, the "health" indicator showed 68%, but again, that was after almost 15 years of near-constant use, both...
July 1992, but back then the were called "Powerbooks" :)
It ran very well until early 2007 as my road warrior companion, when things (battery, screen, nic) started dying rather quickly, so I moved on to the more modern MacBook Pro shortly after they came out !
TeleFragger.....That Sir is what we in the engineering design world refer to as a "colossal, conglomerated clusterf*ck" of epic proportions, hehehe :D
It's makin my brain hurt just from looking at it, and I would most likely have a heart attack and/or a seizure if I were to see it in person....
This nonsense only proves one thing:
That some folks have more $$ than brains, as the saying goes....
As well as the infamous "Stupid is as stupid does"
"The cloud AI" already knows where you were, where you are now, and where you are going next, so what's different now ?
Track me, slack me, I don't care, cause I don't go to places I shouldn't, just don't jack me !
So the REAL question now is how much longer before the googly & the carriers...
ace is the place !
Unless of course you wanna buy an assorted bag of them from me for $5.00 :D
But if you can specify the exact size in mm, I'm pretty sure I will have some, seeins how I've built many rigs over the years that were equipped with AIO's & fans....
I'm just wondering how it (or any other computer) got put into RAID mode with only 1 storage device installed ?
Or is there something about this particular machine that I am not aware of ?
Also, a fresh install is not the end of the world, as it usually works relatively well and doesn't take...
Not so much a pipe dream, cause as soon as I can get my quantum phase change isolinear omega particle chips into mass production, dram, nand ect will immediately go the way of the dinosaurs, hehehe :)
But seriously, I agree that it is about time for something new to come along soon. I've seen...
I guess I am one of those folks who demand the very best possible performance from my machines, since they make me $$$$, and as they say "time is money"...
My IT guys Work did multiple head to head comparisions of mid-tier drives with & without dram, and QLC vs TLC back when Gen 4 drives first...
Well, I hate to repeat myself, but this has been common knowledge for many many years....so I'm not sure why anyone who's been around here for a while would not know about it :D
It's definitely been on my list of top 20 things to do immediately after installing the OS & rebooting the 1st time...
Nice little mini-me box 4 sure !
Just curious, but when you say "kiddo" do you mean a youngin (6-12) or a tweener (13-19) ?
I'm only asking because I know kiddos tend to do some weird stuff with their toys, and tweeners have been known to use & abuse some things, especially if they did not pay...
Games, like almost every other app that runs on computers, are bottlenecked by 1) sloppy, inefficient coding, and 2) Legacy crap code from days gone by (16/32bit pieces) and 3) primitive backwards compatibility with old stuff like pcie gens 1 & 2...
Until/unless these things are fixed, they can...
I guess I should have said "in recent times", and yea, they always have "taken liberties" with other companies stuff, but even though they aren't up to the level of Intel & AMD YET, they are making steady progress, and they have the added advantage of NOT having to build chips for everyone, only...
Well, I'm no apple fan boi (except for when those massive dividend checks arrive :D), but if anyone has the drive, resources, and engineering talent to make something that seems nearly impossible into something that works really well (like this no-interconnect thing) it's them fruity bois...
Yea, 32GB is useful in almost every system, unless all you do with it is browse, word, basic excel etc...for anything beyond that, I absolutely refuse to use anything less, especially as apps & their sloppy coding cause their memory requirements to continue to grow & grow by leaps & bounds :)
Just a side note, although going to 32GB is a worthy goal, on that AM4 rig, going past 3200 is really not that important or worth the extra $$, unless you're just a benchmark wookie or epeen junkie, hehehe :)
REALLY Maxx ?? you've been here long enough to earn the Supreme title with 7300 posts, so how can not have heard of this before ??
Me No comprende :D
Even my 8 yr old MX Master's have it, and I use it frequently when scrolling/searching thru really long pdf's....
Yep, Logi tried that BS back in the day, even going so far as to require yet another, separate receiver if you had one of their KB's and one of their mice...
The backlash from users was swift and very harsh (this was back when most rigs only had 2-3 USB ports), so much so that they came up with...
Soooooo...how many more weeks/months/years/decades is this thread gonna go on for ?
It should be painfully obvious by now that the OP is gonna do what he/she is gonna do, regardless of what we say or don't say....
But just for posterity's sake, I will repeat what so many others have already...
Yep, it's a fairly good deal on yet anutha same ole same same boring AF rectangular boxen from yesteryear, but if that floats your boat, then have at it :)
Will have to agree on the Typhoons though, getting them as part of the deal is really sweet :)
In some mobo's, mixing different ram works fine, in others it can cause major stability issues, and using all 4 ram slots can have some side effects too.
Generally, regardless of the amount, using only 2 slots is usually the easiest, most stable option, unless of course, you can only reach the...
ONLY IF you have an internet connection that is at or faster than 2.5Gb/s AND your current machine(s) has a 2.5Gb/s nic, then those would be good reasons to upgrade, otherwise you would be wasting your money bigtime....cause your internet speed will never be any faster than the slowest link in...
