Okay good! I was about to comment that the first gen ryzen motherboards are notorious for having barely adequate VRMs so although a 5900x would socket in and turn on I would be very surprised if your CPU didn’t throttle due to VRM thermals and voltage ripple. That B550 is much better built

Even 12GB is low in today’s world. I mean it’s only 1 more GB than the 1080 Ti from 2016….if I were in the market today I wouldn’t get anything less than 16GB which means 6900xt or 3090. Anything else is mid tier class in 2 years or less

Use the Radeon anti-lag feature. That should help the frame time issue. Radeon anti-lag Adrenaline software description: “Dynamically adjusts frame timing to reduce the lag between user inputs and visual responses.”

Oh sorry about that, I’m on a business trip so I’m away from my desktop and its been forever since I’ve been in the adrenaline settings. If I remember correctly it’s called “Radeon anti-lag” it basically forces the gpu to put out as many frames as possible while keeping output at the monitors...

You do realize that there is a setting in the adrenaline drivers that fixes this. I have a 6900xt and I’ve never experienced what you are saying, mechwarrior online, Starcraft 2, war thunder, rising storm 2, etc all play flawlessly

I had a 2700x with my 6900xt and got >20,000 graphics score then upgraded to 5900x and maybe got 300 more graphics points. The CPU is not the problem.

If you look at all the ryzen performance in gaming benchmarks the 5900x barely inches past the 5950x in performance which is what they were asking about. But as games become more thread happy the 5950x will stay relevant longer.

It’s barely faster in games vs the 5950x but in the long term the 5950x will stay more relevant as more cores are utilized in games in the future.

That sounds pretty high for idle, my 5900x runs at 32C at idle and 68C full load with PBO and CO. How’s your cold plate mounting pressure? And did you use the paste the cooler came with?
