    $100 Nvidia CUDA card for A.I. ?

A.I. experience is vastly different from gaming though. I would imagine an fps drop of 30 to 10 would be very noticeable. But all I want is cutting a wait time of 20+ hours to something manageable. AFAIK, there is virtual no hardware acceleration with my Intel IGP.

    $100 Nvidia CUDA card for A.I. ?

I don't know much about AI at all. I would say a little bit of training and more on inference. Prior to posting this thread, I did some research and think that RTX 2070 is an entry level choice. For some reasons, used ones seems to be cheaper than used 2060 or around the same price. My plan is...

    $100 Nvidia CUDA card for A.I. ?

I am not a gamer. I have a decent Core-i7 desktop with 16GB RAM and PCIe-x16 slot. I want to play with A.I. but met the hard truth that my Intel UHD IGP desktop is just not up to the task. I mean calling it slow is an vastly understatement. Are there CUDA compatible video card that I can buy...

    USB HDD keep disappearing

Thanks for all the replies. I don't have a powered USB hub. I got myself a USB power tester and tried to hook it up in between the USB drive and mini desktop. But for some reasons, I can no longer reproduce the problem. Everything seems to be working fine. Current draw is always below 0.4A. I...

    USB HDD keep disappearing

I have a 1TB WD USB HDD that I use for backups. https://www.newegg.com/model-wdbpck0010bbk-nesn-1tb/p/N82E16822136996 Recently, I switched my main PC to a Lenovo M93p Tiny. But I noticed that my WD external HDD does not work properly with it. The M93p has 6 USB 3.0 ports. The WD is also USB...

I am using 4GBx2 DDR3 memory. It was too long ago but I think most DDR3 for desktop should work. Not sure about 8GB stick though.

HP Slimline s5000 504966-001 P/S not powering on

I have an HP s5000 series Slimline desktop with P/S 504966-001 (https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Original-HP-TFX0220D5WA-504966-001/dp/B00BJ1PIVK) It is not powering on when I press the power button on the case (P/S fan not spinning but power LED is always green). I unplugged it and tested it...

I initally thought my P/S is bad. But if I hook it up to a tester, it will power up and only the -5V is off. I googled and found out -5V is not needed. But plugging it back in, PC won't power on. I am confused.

Thanks for taking the time for look up P/S for me. I took a look at the listing. It seems their connectors are more limited. Some has not SATA power and even the more expensive one seems to have just 1. I don't have spare adapters around. I guess another thing I missed with my slimline is...

Yeah, I wish I could repeat there success. My s5150 M/B just absolutely won't boot with any quad core processors (tried 3) I threw at it. They are all genuine because I have another LGA775 desktop that I can test on. I think my M/B is an older revision and it needs a BIOS upgrade but there is...

Originally, I wanted to keep the Slimline because it fits a standard m-ATX motherboard (I think) and comes with a P/S that uses standard 24pin power and comes with 4-pin CPU power. But now my P/S is dead. I wonder if I should just write it off? Core2Duo is really old. If you have seen my earlier...

    ThinkCentre M73 Tiny CPU upgrade

I have seen YouTube video which put a Xeon E3-1275L in the M93 (which is very similar to M73). The CPU has a TDP of 45W. I would be very interested in these tiny unit if it works.

Refurbished name brand SFF PC as starter?

Wow. Things must have changed a lot since my last build. CPU HSF? You mean I can't even buy a better HSF for the stock? That's really f**ked up. I guess I will go with my plan B. Only thing is Ryzen CPU/APU prices are through the roof. Maybe due to crypto currency?

Refurbished name brand SFF PC as starter?

Well, if you mean that I can only fit in Dell Optiplex motherboard, it is still way too restrictive. Besides, just about all of them sold are used. The Ryzen option is interesting but way too expensive.

Refurbished name brand SFF PC as starter?

A case that cannot fit a standard mATX or even mITX board is pretty useless to me. When the motherboard on my HP Slimline failed, I was able to throw in an mITX board and reuse it. If I can't reuse the case, it would be a big turn off for me.

Refurbished name brand SFF PC as starter?

Thanks guys. I am thinking of 2 routes right now. Either a Dell Optiplex SFF with *lake (most likely Skylake) processor. This costs ~$200 and it comes HDD/8GB RAM/DVD and CPU with passmark ~5-6K. Or gut my motherboard and replace it with a AM4 paired with an Ryzen APU. For some reasons, the...

Sorry to bring up this old thread. I have the same Asrock E350-M1 and the old fan is making very loud noise. If I buy the Noctua fan, is it going to be a direct replacement? If I remove the screws on the old fan, it will just come off? Should I reuse the old screws for new fan? Does the new...

Any use for UDIMM DDR3 ECC RAM?

FWIW, I installed my 2x8GB ECC memory on my old AMD E350 board and it came up right away. No surprises. It seems kind of wasteful for such a low end CPU but it is the only board I have that can take advantage of the pulls.

At this point, there is no reason to invest in a 775 motherboard. Something from the last 3 years would make more sense. I also have the s3000 slimline. The motherboard failed but the case is still good. The key to reuse is finding the adapter to convert the mini power to standard 20/24 pin...
