Not necessarily as you could span across several drives for one large drive. The RAID gives you the ability to use that spanned drive and prevent a disk failure from crashing the whole spanned drive.
Also that would allow you to use smaller drives and save money and still get the large capacity...
Hard to add much to the already great advice. I also have some 10+ year-old servers been trying to get the customers to upgrade for a few years now. I too echo, yes it's time to replace and upgrade the hardware. Also, there seems to be som much better support for the server and tools to monitor...
RAID was going to be my suggestion as well. You could use a Raid 5 or 10 and just add a drive enclosure with some smaller but way cheaper drives.
Also, consider making sure you get some drives that will last with lots of read-write cycles if you are looking at SSD's. Might find it better to...
I have an old working pull Sonciwall TZ205. These were very complex firewalls 10 years ago.
Never got around to using it for anything and its far enough out of date that I will likely not use it for anything. Plus I am wrapping up my IT business so it's taking up space now. Has the power cord...
Greetings Forum members. I was fairly active a while ago and got some great info.
Well now that I am finally winding my business down it's time to get rid of a bunch of stuff left over from past projects and partnerships.
I have several things to pass on hoping they can find a home where...
Thanks for the tips. Going to work on them. Nice thing is I have a way to remote execute this stuff as the admin or through the system account.
Thanks for the warning going to try it on my machine first and see. This is kind of what I needed to get started. Been too long since I had to do this...
You need to roll back to 1909 the newest update was the 2004 update. Find that and remove it.
If necessary you might want to use Windows Creator and reinstall at 1909. The Microsoft website will have that for you to do.
The biggest issue of you need to think of is the 2004 update is like...
Been there done that a while ago now.
One nice thing about Windows 10 is the current installer is usually pretty close to the current install. Whereas Win 7 and before it was install the base. Run updates about 10 times so you could reboot and get batchews of updates done. Oh yeah and spend 4-5...
Hi all,
Not sure if this is exactly the right place for this. If not Mods please move it.
So here is the problem I've got. Windows is getting slower again with all the stupid update services, tasks, and general garbage running int he background.
What I would like to do is set up a script in...
Sometimes that is true and sometimes it was good old Windows.
Have had to rescue a couple of people due to corrupted profiles and other issues with the last couple of updates. The 2004 seems to be holding it was the updates to 1909 that caused problems.
Wish as well they woudl fix the three...
FIFY
Yeah the last couple of updates have had some issues. I've been running into some strange stuff as well.
Also have had a few profiles corrupt. There are times you wish you could be like Linux and never upgrade. But then again it you don't you get more vulnerable.
Thanks for posting the...
:)
If you have the cash might as well! Problem is too many people are partially out of work and need to save cash. Sounds like it would be a great time to pick up an older card, save the cash and use it for something that might last a bit longer! Just saying.
Though I am sure the new card will...
Around 16GB at the moment for most things seems to be the sweet spot.
A bunch here do a whole lot more than the usual office worker so 32 or 64 makes more sense. 8GB usually works just fine but we have been defaulting to 16GB at least for systems that have more memory hungry apps like Accounting...
You would think that most of these memory leaks would have been solved long ago.
Surprised that one has not been pulled and fixed. Thanks again for sharing. Reminds to monitor a couple of customer PC's. Might be a driver that is the problem!
To add to the ongoing discussion. Local backups are nice until you have a flood, power surge, fire or other disaster. The you are quite likely totally hosed.
I always recommend to my customers with how cheap cloud storage is now to in addition to local backup always have a cloud based backup...
Well you always have a bunch of updates running in the background. Look at Adobe, edge, office etc... they run checks many times every hour. Wouldn't surpirse me in the update a log file every single time.
That word doc is backing up temporarily evry 5 minutes (or whatever you have it set to)...
You always have to hate when its fully propitiatory.
They talk about backup but how good is it really. Sure you have hardware on the cheap off eBay, but what does the monthly service run you?
Have you calculated out the cost of regular service and just how covered you really are. A NAS or DAS is...
I was never all that impressed with Speedfan anyway. That Argus monitor looks interesting. Have to save that link and try it. When I am traveling oversea especially in Southeast Asia having something to control and montior the temp becomes even more useful. Thanks for posting.
I'm with J Macker on this.
And yes Comcast says you have 300 MBps but in reality you will almost never get anywhere close to that. Between congestion on the network, WiFi limitations and all the translations, dropped packets, etc... Your speed will always be way reduced.
If you sting wires...
The other question would be what are you primarily getting the new monitor for to do? You going to use it primarily for gaming or doing regular computer stuff with a little gaming on the side?
I wear my computer glasses now as the eye sight isn't what it used to be! that may end up being the...
Not sure where you are but I know of some local to me who does a bunch of 3d printing. had been making custom chamber flags for one of my other forums. If you haven't found anything I could certainly refer you. Might be worth a shot.
That pretty much explains it in a nutshell. Amazing how that seems to happen with a simple change. nothing else was likely changed just from a better dye to a cheaper one.
Yeah it's amazing what they can do with 3D printers these days.
Best thing is you can make numerous little changes to find the best design for the space too!
Definitely would have people talking about it.
I wonder what they are planning to cool with all those crazy fans!
Also, have to look if they have a power rating for needing an extra circuit int he house installed!
"Yeah who would have thought that it was a firmware update needed. I'm trying to think the last time I manually updated firmware that wasn't part of an automatic Windows update.
I see i3-xxx and want to run. I guess as haas been said budget does make it worth while. Think though I would prefer a higher end chipset.
But as was said. This is a nice price for the computing power provided.
And it has lights too! That is a decent price. Love how these multi-color gaming systems are all the rage!
Only real issue it can keep the wife up at night with all those lights!
Sometimes grabbing the drivers from NVidia will get you over the hump.
Win Server will be more strict as you don't want vulnerable drivers laying around especially when this could be an AD server with all kinds of access and security issues.
Glad to see things are working.
As an aside. Why anyone would even bother installing Windows 10 Home is beyond me. I never suggest that to anyone. Period.
BTW I've had several customers using Win 10 on older workstations. Where you usually run into issues is with the Graphics cards. Win 10 is...
More than likely an ASCII error. Seen this happen with some remote VNC access software we use. Had to switch over the installed VNC client. Turned out it had something to do with the browser and how the ctrl characters were being sent.
This type of thing used to happen all the time in the old...
Nothing near as fancy as most of you but back to playing XCom Terror from the Deep.
Just about ready to give up on Battle For Wesnoth again. There stupid random number generator and randomness is anything but random. Drives you nuts when you need some general predictability but end up with the...
Cool, I suspect you may not even end up using most of that. Also, watch out for Comcast to be slowing you down. They tout the high speeds but rarely come close to actually getting there.
Also, find out how shared the equipment is there. Either way unless you have a crack at Fiber comcast is by...
I think you are going to have to give a bit more context. Were you working in the GUI or the command line?
Usually that error is almost useless the problem I have found most often is a incorrectly formatted command. If in the GUI then might well be something else. As in this is not allowed...
So while not blazing fast that is still running pretty fast!
Key is going to be what the actual throughput speed will be. Speedtest is all well and good but we have seen more than enough fast connections be mostly slow crawling when it got down to actually handling traffic.
EniGmA1987 is kind of right.
A lot though depends on the router in use.
Many of the better routers out there can be set up to do exactly what you want.
For instance I use Datto AP's with a couple of clients. I can set up with individual SSID's whether they are LAN aware or not. The guest...
So as SamirD says anyone else more interested. Let me know. More than willing just to give this a good home.
Would have posted this in the WTS section as well but not up to the minimum yet!
