Typical NVR and security cameras setup inside a house, how to improve security?

What brand is the hardware? A firewall rule could probably be all that is needed to block cloud access.

Case side panel broken twice, how to cover the case now?

Tile bro , avoid ceramics like the plague. Tile and tempered glass don't mix at all. I know you said it was kids, but both times? Probably one of the plastics with tint if they're that destructive: plexi, acrylic, poly, etc. Slap some tint on.

    10gbe m.2 adapter gets hot.

Second vote for 40mm noctua, and maybe a bigger heatsink if you feel like modding it. If space is a concern you could probably find a laptop blower/heatsink too.

DVD slot for the back of case using a bracket?

dremel or grinder and cut out a 5.25 by whatever slot, why not. entirely depends on the case but a lot have enough dead space

    Aftermarket ramsink/heatspreader?

there's some thin wire and metal devices that are good for the tape, I used them originally for removing glass from LCD screens... I'll try to remember the name

    Aftermarket ramsink/heatspreader?

3466 is relatively fast, but I would try one with prime95 and see how hot you can get it. If its 2 dimms its better than 4, especially if they're double sided... Yes you can get aftermarket heat spreaders too. Even water blocks, though I haven't done that since a triple channel x58 build. I...

    Lack of innovation of Mice

Not sure there is much else for mice to innovate on. My buddy had a logitech wireless mouse at least a decade ago you could pick up and use in the air, some remotes are using this tech now.... I would LOVE if we went back to thicker laptops, these ultra-super-thin designs are getting...

    Mesh office chair vs. padded

It's all tradeoffs really: Mesh breathes well, and doesn't stop flatulence at all lol. If you sit on your legs/feet it can be hard on the mesh, mesh doesn't like hard surfaces. It's more like a hammock for your body but some meshes are courser than others, can be uncomfortable on bare skin...

OK, KODI sucks really really bad

Plex, jellyfin, emby. I use jellyfin cuz I like FREE, and no internet neded once you have it downloaded and your library info downloaded. It's been great when internet goes down to watch stuff on local. You can get the app on fire tv and all sorts too

Athlon 64 FX-57 is expensive, rare, fast but is it worth it?

This thread inspired me to dig my stuff back out. After the house fire it looks like ServPro killed my 4x512 crucial ballistix tracers ddr-500. Those sticks were so nice too! Don't trust those people to take care of anything you care about. Looks like the OCZ coppers are OK though so far...

A Blast From the Past For You Older [H]'ers... DX58SO Smackover Build

I still have my semi-retired asus p6x58d-e, x5670 at 4.3ghz, and 3x4gb ddr3-2000 chugging away. Might slot a gtx 1080 in it, it's been paired with an 8gb r9 290x until recently, I swapped it for an rx580 8gb though. I always wanted to try some of the gskill 2400mhz memory kits, see if my IMC...

Awesome build, 1366 is still plenty capable today!

Remembering the disaster that was crypto mining and it's detrimental affects on GPU prices.

AI probably. Used mining cards are fine if they had good thermals, but the fans might be shot - I bought an rx 580 8gb the prior craze and it's worked great other than the bios being set for mining, but it had dual bios anyway -- easy fix

Athlon 64 FX-57 is expensive, rare, fast but is it worth it?

I'll see if I can dig up any screenshots, my 3800x2 had a weird stepping - LLB9E or something. Would do 3.2ghz on water, 3.4ghz peltier. Opty was hard to get 3.2, 3.1 was the voltage wall. Still that single core opteron/fx-5700 can clock really high, probably 3.6+

Athlon 64 FX-57 is expensive, rare, fast but is it worth it?

OPTERON 165 for best bang for the buck, except for a few of those x2's with 1mb l2 cache per core. 3800x2 was plenty as well, no point in the higher freqs if you OC. still have my DFI boards and a couple asus

    13900KS and 192GB RAM?

6000 is the best bet right now for AMD or Intel IMHO, the crazy 7-8 kits are nice but for the costs and real world difference it's hard to justify IMO.

DDR5 to DDR4 adapter and DIMM Doubler

woah crazy, I mean I get it there wasn't THAT much difference but why the height of the 5/4 adapter LOL, it only needed to be tall enough to engage the locking tabs and provide another set of tabs... LOTS of wasted space on that PCB. and is that molex for additional power?

PSA: Asus DIMM.2 M.2 risers get HOT

Sounds awful, but the design doesn't look good for thermals at all so I'm not too surprised. I'd try to leave the casing off and use proper heat sinks.

Monitor upgrade advice (currently using 32" 1440p 144Hz Samsung)

That's one of the points of that thing, you can use their software for a normal screen res in the center and have two "side" monitors but seamlessly. Sounds like a cool setup though

Monitor upgrade advice (currently using 32" 1440p 144Hz Samsung)

I don't usually bother, especially NOT if it isn't from the manufacturer. Those 3rd party insurances suck. If there are no dead pixels it's USUALLY fine for a good long while.

Monitor upgrade advice (currently using 32" 1440p 144Hz Samsung)

Edit, apparently there are two Odyssey G9s: https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/j795bf/odyssey_g9_lc49g97tssnxdc_vs_lc49g95tssnxza/ B&H has the newer "LC49G97TSSNXDC" model for 999, amazon has the older ZA, specs similar.

Monitor upgrade advice (currently using 32" 1440p 144Hz Samsung)

I have a buddy with a CHG90 I think it is, the 144hz 49 monitor. He loves it, but I've noticed a lot of games you miss stuff on the top and bottom if you do the true resolution, but it's no different than doing 2-3 monitors stretched like I did back in the day. The HDR is buggy for him too so...

Monitor upgrade advice (currently using 32" 1440p 144Hz Samsung)

Prime day deal is gonna end soon but the 49" "double QHD or whatever" g9 samsung is 900, and then 15% off, and then 6% rewards if you have an amazon credit card I think. Makes it about 720, that monitor was just 1500. 240hz too...

EU's new regulation requires replaceable batteries in smartphones

Phone makers can still force obsolescence by withholding updates on older models, but I guess the users can jailbreak or mod... But I'm a big fan of this because I assume it will force a market for more reliable OEM batteries? By the time I'm ready to swap a battery it's a sketchy brand or new...

Upcoming Windows 11 beta giveth and taketh away; further guts power user functionality

Glad to see the Taskbar closer to being useful, I don't understand why MS removes any feature though? Dramatic UI changes don't seem to improve things at all, the only new feature I like is the multiple-window layout grid. I remember doing a registry edit to get the old right click back by...

Whatz your oldest system/gear you still use on a daily or regular basis?

If you aren't afraid to try modding and overclocking you can likely pin mod the socket from 400 to 533 fsb, which would bring the cpu up to 1.6ghz and give you a big boost overall. And if you upgrade to a Dothan core you'll get double the L2 cache. I can't remember if mine was a D600 but I was...

    13900k "low" Cinebench R23 performance

Uncapped I can hit 300-350W all core lol. I get 42-44K uncapped and at 288W or less I get sub-40K, not worth the heat 5600 memory, loose timings make a big impact too

Z's "Other Room" Water Cooling Loop Build Thread

Pex measurements aren't accurate, 3/4 tube isn't I.D. so that's probably why your calculations are off. ID is closer to 5/8 or 11/16 if I recall, all PEX sizes are like that unfortunately. I'm not 100% on what you connected to the bucket but when I needed to seal to a bucket well, I had to use...

Samsung s9 plus, but it's kind of a theseus ship deal here, I replaced the screen and back glass, and battery. Only the motherboard and camera are original, tried to replace the camera but that’s hard because there were 3 potential variants... So now it looks new again lol. Otterbein cases...
