NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

I just built in the NR200 for kicks, and it’s a neat case. Vs the M1, its primary strengths for me are the price point and glass panel. Obviously there’s some thermal benefit with the top fans, and greater compatibility for CPU coolers/big gpu, but the perceived size increase is also rather...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

If you’re not opposed to running msi afterburner and spending 30 minutes tweaking the voltage curve, you can probably save yourself some noise without sacrificing performance by undervolting

GHOST S1 - When both size & performance matters

not sure what type of portability you're looking for, but the sliger cerberus x exists. it's twice-ish the volume of the ghost but allows atx motherboards (so TRX40/3990X viable) and atx power supplies if you liquid cool the cpu.

Smallest case with ATX Mobo/PSU support

raijintek thetis is pretty small. I thought it was EOL but newegg just restocked (~90 usd). a user over on the sff.net forums has done a number of builds and did a great job of describing his experiences.

Loque Ghost S1 with 3900X Recommendations (Thermal issues)

if you don’t mind losing some single core performance, you can likely undervolt your chip significantly. use hwinfo64 or ryzen master to see what voltages and clock speeds you get under your typical workloads. you can then set an all core multiplier to match the click speed, and dial down a...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

I saw the remnants of that fan bracket on reddit but I’m not sure I’ve seen performance results. How does it fare compared to your 1080ti/accelero setup?

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

The U9S has similar weight to the heatsink, and the fans are pretty good. You could also ask Noctua for updated mounting hardware and stick the new a12x25 on your existing cooler

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Also keep in mind that to use a 140mm fan under the c14s, the psu must be in the ATX position. You can use the normal SFX mounting if you use a 120mm fan instead (and Noctua will be happy to send you clips). Also note that you can only fit a slim fan on top of the c14s in the M1, e.g. a Noctua...

    DAN HSLP-48: A powerful sub 50mm heatsink

how close of an almost-fit was it on the z390? I have a z370 version which appears to have a slightly shorter vrm heatsink and I’m curious if it’d fit with the board unmodified

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

It’s 130mm clearance to the bracket for a cpu cooler, less 25mm fans and 30mm rad leaves 75mm. Slim fans would leave you ~85mm

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Most people that I’ve seen rotate their SFX psu to the “atx” position was to get a bit more room for the C14S’s bottom A14 fan. With the psu in the normal spot, the 140mm fan wouldn’t fit underneath the heatsink. The smaller SFX unit in the front position also creates a gap on the side panel...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

While there are no readily available different panels, it is easy enough to swap the cable/ports while keeping the existing panel. I.e. you can remove the existing USB cable but retain the audio and power button. So if you’re fine with type A it’s just a matter of finding an appropriate cable...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Intriguing. If you’re really in the mood…assuming you were already plan to go back to the C14S eventually, I’m curious about how it performs with slim intake on the panel, intake slim + pull a12 underneath, and slim top/fan bottom both in ‘exhaust’. Most reviews seem to only grant a few degrees...

    Corsair SF600 600w SFX Powersupply

I was hoping that’d be the case. Idle fan up to 300W would be dope at true SFX measurements. Surely it won’t be costlier than the NJ450 ($200 usd)…right?

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

On the topic of ATX, I’m considering trying to shove a 140mm length one into my M1 (Seasonic Focus). I want to do this because 1.) I find my Corsair Sf450 plat loud under load 2.) that unit is still within the return window 3.) reviews make it look like the 600 won’t be better 4.) I can grab an...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Are there any existing cases similar to what’s being described (20-30mm wider, room for top slim or full fans) but otherwise having the layout of the M1?

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

A few pages back another user tried this, but couldn’t get it to work. Similar to the EVGa ultra cards, the heatsink has little metal tabs for the shroud to screw into. They appeared to be soldered on, and there wasn’t enough clearance for the fans in exhaust. That user did find that there was...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Impressed with the accelero but still looking for quieter, I picked up a Strix 2080 to try out since the reviews all raved about its noise level. After removing the front audio, usb, and flipping the power button I massaged it into the M1. Taking it out proved to be a bit more challenging...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

I've been eyeing the SilverStone NJ450, though it's SFX-L (132mm at the connectors) and I've yet to see one in the M1. It's ~7mm longer than the SGX-650 and the cables don't look quite as flexible, but it could also be mounted ATX/attached to the front panel since you don't have to worry about...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Interesting, I thought I saw some posts from a user saying the cables were too close but apparently they didn’t bend them enough. How would you compare the (fan) noise at load vs the sf600 and evga units?

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Seems like pretty decent performance. Certainly the 240mm of exhaust helps things, but I bet a 92+120 case exhaust could probably handle dissipating that heat, too. Do you know whereabouts the speed of the intake 120’s hit during Superposition? I find my A12x25 pretty quiet at 50%, but if you...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Yeah, the 2080 is a bit less than 2mm thicker and longer. Cheers on the testing though, I’ve been wondering if that model would fit and I’m glad someone got to it before I could convince myself to try!

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Does the tab interfere with both fans, or just the front one? Would it be feasible to do a 120+92? Also if you happened to try, does the card fit with the stock shroud/fans on?

GHOST S1 - When both size & performance matters

I'm also curious about this. the greatest challenge of the dan a4/sandwich style seems to be exhausting the heat, particularly when you get very warm (1080ti, 8700k/2700x and above) components. I have my doubts that the under-psu fan does enough to alter the airflow path to really help with...

    Corsair SF600 600w SFX Powersupply

...maybe this is a dumb question, but where would one route the wire for the fan? is there a better option than not screwing the psu cover completely and sliding it through the gap?

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

what psu do you currently use? anandtech's review of the 450 platinum suggests it's a very similar fan but pwm. I'm eager to hear if that makes a difference vs. the sf600 gold, even anecdotally

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

I don’t have a M1. Sure, it seems pretty obvious that an exhaust will help, but I’d prefer not to be another internet forum poster talking out of his ass without having hands on experience. How much does that 92mm fan help? 5 degrees, 10 degrees, more? If you’re able to do some quick tests with...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Intuition says a rear 92mm exhaust fan would help clear the hot air quicker. I’m curious to know how much impact it has in practice

GHOST S1 - When both size & performance matters

I believe that tray would fit where the internal 120mm mounting point is, under the psu. thus, you can fit two 2.5 there (but no fan) in addition to the one on the spine behind the psu

thanks for looking into it! on the plus side...you could return it and buy a fence? for anyone reading through this in the future, it's worth noting that the fellow in the previously referenced reddit thread had good results with the stock cooler in the m1 with a different cooling setup (u9s...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

You’re a gentleman and a scholar. I’m personally most interested in noise relative to performance. Ideally you’d be able to find the lowest rpm that still achieves reasonable (under 80C) temps on both the stock cooler and noctuas as exhaust. But I get that’s not everyone’s focus and the 15ish...

Status Update 2018-06-16: EG Model One, 8L SFF ITX PC Case

ghost s1 looks cool and definitely showed there’s a market for a small sandwich design with superior hardware support vs the Dan a4. is dan’s upcoming watercooled version also a rip off of the ghost? not to mention the louqe case still isn’t available and we have no way of knowing how...

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

is it a whining/squeal type noise that happens when the gpu is under full utilization? that might be coil whine which could be helped by undervolting (or not). if it gets better when the side panel is off, though, I assume it's because the fans start producing that tone after a certain rpm. if...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Most GPU’s require an adapter to plug external fans into the PCB. Doing so lets you control the fans via Afterburner, etc. If you plug them into the motherboard, you can still control them, but most mobo bios/software won’t let you set a curve based on the GPU temp as it won’t have access to...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

I been eyeing the M1 for a while but also have become somewhat of noise snob. I was wondering if anyone with the usual setups (bottom 120s, accelero or non-blower gpu, any common heatsink like u9s or c14s, 92mm on rear) could share temps for a 1080ti with low fan speeds. Ideally in the ballpark...
