    PG32UQX - ASUS 32" 4K 144 Hz HDR1400 G-Sync Ultimate

What's going to be interesting is how it performs in comparison - the software upgrade/hardware downgrade balance should be interesting. I'd assume this also will mean end of production for the older QX.

    LG Ultragear 27" OLED 240hz 1440P 27GR95QE-B

Yeah - Samsungs have had a tendency towards black crush for years. It's one of the reasons I went for a Sony when I bought a new TV a few years back (FALD in the TV's case). Samsungs tend to crush blacks more, whereas Sony's have more blooming in certain situations but tend not to crush...

    LG Ultragear 27" OLED 240hz 1440P 27GR95QE-B

I think with virtually *any* OLED, if it's abused, burn in can absolutely happen. That said, I'd never consider an in-store model as indicative of a problem because we have no idea the usage pattern. My guess is that same screen was left on days/weeks at a time, but who knows. We'll see. So...

    LG Ultragear 27" OLED 240hz 1440P 27GR95QE-B

Interesting video, though personally I'd never use Vivid mode, even for the extra brightness, because of it's decreased accuracy. Honestly (and I've mostly been playing SDR as the game I'm playing now doesn't support native HDR), I haven't noticed much of a difference since the firmware update...

    ASUS Swift PG27AQDM 27" OLED 1440P 240hz

This monitor looks interesting but along with the enhancements for greater brightness does seem to have quite a few shortcomings not present on the LG. Hopefully firmware fixes it, but personally the black crush would be a dealbreaker for me. I'm also surprised about the lack of HDMI 2.1...

    LG Ultragear 27" OLED 240hz 1440P 27GR95QE-B

In Gamer 1 In Gamer 1, it disappears for me at .0050 (so I can start to see it at .01). The next two patterns both completely disappear right at 580.

    LG Ultragear 27" OLED 240hz 1440P 27GR95QE-B

I'm not sure what you're asking. When I ran HDR Calibration, I ran it as directed.

    LG Ultragear 27" OLED 240hz 1440P 27GR95QE-B

Going by the video (YouTube running in HDR), I can see the detail on the back wall just fine - it definitely isn't completely black. This is with Gamer 1's HDR mode and no other adjustments other than having run the Windows 11 HDR Calibration tool.

    LG Ultragear 27" OLED 240hz 1440P 27GR95QE-B

Brightness, as mentioned in this follow-up post, or sharpness, as mentioned in your original post? I was talking about sharpness, and in regards to that, I have not noticed any change or loss of control from the monitor settings themselves; sharpness works as set/as it should. I don't see...

    LG Ultragear 27" OLED 240hz 1440P 27GR95QE-B

Sharpness is a modifiable monitor setting in the Gamer 1 and Gamer 2 HDR modes (though it is grayed out in the other modes, so I don't know what it defaults to in those). I leave it on 50 as that seems to be the setting that doesn't add additional sharpness or softness. Windows HDR Calibration...

    LG Ultragear 27" OLED 240hz 1440P 27GR95QE-B

The latest firmware is now available - just did the update. You need the latest OnScreen Control - mine updated again when I started it, and then it prompted for the firmware update. This is NOT a quick firmware update. Allow for at least 2 hours. You can keep using the PC during it...

    LG Ultragear 27" OLED 240hz 1440P 27GR95QE-B

Interesting! I see there's a new version of the OnScreen Control app, but it showed no firmware update quite yet. I just hope it doesn't mess up my calibration as I no longer have a colorimeter here to redo it =oP (Though I'll probably need to invest in one eventually anyways.)

    LG Ultragear 27" OLED 240hz 1440P 27GR95QE-B

Sorry to hear it didn't work out. I had gone through two monitors I wasn't happy with before finding this one, so I know how that feels, and it is frustrating! It's a very personal choice with a lot of factors to consider! At any rate, good luck with your search and I hope you find something...

    Why OLED for PC use?

I had the UCG briefly (about a week I'd say). It is a thicc boy, and HEAVY. The fan noise wasn't an issue for me in my brief usage, and I could have dealt with the bulk if I was otherwise happy. Unfortunately, it had many quality control issues out of the box, which would have prevented me...

    Why OLED for PC use?

Hopefully they'll do more PC-oriented things when they test the monitors, I agree. That said, I do think it makes sense for TV, since network bugs like CNN were one of the things I did experience burn-in on back when I had my early-gen LG OLED (along with Zelda Breath of the Wild hearts and...

    LG Ultragear 27" OLED 240hz 1440P 27GR95QE-B

I've used CRU to remove the 4K TV presets that can sometimes display an error message (for some reason, some fullscreen games make the display think it's in 4K on some LG monitors, including this one, until you remove some TV-related upscaling from 4K entries), but this is a little beyond what...

    LG Ultragear 27" OLED 240hz 1440P 27GR95QE-B

DAS does not appear to be available in any modes except the Gamer modes on this monitor, and there doesn't seem a setting to enable it. It's perplexing why so much is locked out in non-Gamer modes. That said, I haven't personally noticed any appreciable lag/difference. I'm not a...

    LG Ultragear 27" OLED 240hz 1440P 27GR95QE-B

This is going to depend on user to user as Comixbooks is running quite a bit different than me, so your mileage may vary and you may need to try things according to your preferences, but here's my take: For SDR games (and desktop use if you do any of that at all), I'd very much recommend the...

    Why OLED for PC use?

PPI is nice, but not the most important thing IMO, and the scaling can be an issue. I was completely planning on going 4K @ 32" for my new upgrade since my computer can now generally do well with it in games, but after not being happy with the 32" options I tried, I'm actually fine with the...

Display(s) HDR support issue or did SONY screwed up PS5's HDR support?

I have not had any glaring issues with PS5 HDR on my TV (but it's also a Sony TV). Calibration seemed to work perfectly and all the HDR games I played (and I've played quite a few) have seemed to look great. If there is any clipping/crushing, I haven't noticed it, and I'm usually pretty...

Display(s) HDR support issue or did SONY screwed up PS5's HDR support?

I JUST upgraded PC's so can fortunately play on PC again, but I still like consoles for my TV - I do think it's really weird monitors don't work well with consoles though. That's strange and extremely counterintuitive. Guess I'll make sure for whatever console gaming I do, it'll be on a TV.

Display(s) HDR support issue or did SONY screwed up PS5's HDR support?

That's really strange and unfortunate with the monitors. I'm at a loss as to what could be causing that then as you've already tried everything that would seem promising from the sounds of it, but it does sound beyond frustrating. Thanks for the info on the PS5 calibration for displays...

Display(s) HDR support issue or did SONY screwed up PS5's HDR support?

I unfortunately don't technically understand the why's of this, but from my limited understanding, the calibration on consoles (both XBOX and PS5) require HGiG in order for the calibration screens to work correctly. And, based on what I've read, most TV's have this, but most monitors *don't*...

    Why OLED for PC use?

Oh, and as to all the implications of people not being able to afford "a proper" monitor, that's a juvenile argument as well as being hogwash. I had budgeted quite a bit more for a monitor (why I tried the ProArt after all), but nothing in the 32" size ended up working out as well as I'd hoped...

LOL. Your guess is as good as mine. It doesn't make any sense.

    Why OLED for PC use?

This makes no sense whatsoever. Why would I use Wide Gamut SDR when the game supports native HDR (which looks beautiful)?
  27. S

    Why OLED for PC use?

Fair enough - I certainly can't explain the poor results you got on the LG; it seems odd that the same colorimeter would give you results that much worse on a different display and good results on the first. I'd be curious if you tried LG's simpler software (if that model supports it) if your...

    Why OLED for PC use?

I can attest that with my Sony TV, there was a learning curve to do a calibration and I did it a couple times before I was happy with the result, but it wasn't too bad and I was very pleased with the results - it was an investment because of the hardware and software. The LG calibration...

    Why OLED for PC use?

Personally, I enjoy seeing a colorist's perspective. I'm definitely no professional, but I did spend some money to get a colorimeter and calibrate my TV via CalMan back when I got it, and it was definitely worth it to me. That said, most TV's and many monitors have at least decent...

    Why OLED for PC use?

I'm not lying to myself. I prefer using sRGB for SDR. It's my preference because it looks best *to me*, and that's a fact. Your unwillingness to accept it isn't really my issue. The 4th image, as I said above, appears to be native HDR. What's your point? BTW, I just downloaded the game...

    Why OLED for PC use?

I know what you're doing is custom grading according to your preferences, but beyond that, no. LOL. I have no idea as you seem to be enjoying not making a decipherable point, so you tell me.
  32. S

    Why OLED for PC use?

"Worse" is only your opinion. Many, may colorists and people in the industry would disagree with you. Okay, so is it native HDR? I don't get your point.
  33. S

    Why OLED for PC use?

We're never going to agree on this. I have no idea how you generated the 4th image, nor do I care in images you grade yourself - I care about playing games in HDR, and those look great so far. Most games will tone-map to the monitor capabilities, making this a non-issue. As has been said...

    Why OLED for PC use?

I think an HDR game looks best in native HDR. As I've said, none of your images have any problem displaying very nicely on my OLED in HDR, nor do games - they look fantastic. Apart from that, I'm not sure what you're trying to get at. I believe the Horizon game you're showcasing has native...

    Why OLED for PC use?

Just to touch on a few recent discussions, I'm also one of the "close to source" people, but I have no issue if people prefer wider gamut, just as I know some people prefer cooler color temperatures or more vivid modes than calibrated displays sometimes offer. My only contention is when people...

    Why OLED for PC use?

Hehe I'm in the strange position where ideally, I completely agree with you, but practically, these mean different things to me. Since the Microsoft Store, if someone says App in relation to Windows, I prettymuch assume they mean something from the Microsoft Store. Whereas most people I know...

    Why OLED for PC use?

Haha I just built a Lego one of those. It also does not have HDR =oP Yeah, I totally think the HDR tool COULD run in Windows 10 - wouldn't surprise me if it is an 11 upgrade gimmick.
  38. S

    Why OLED for PC use?

Sorry for the "app" confusion - apps on Windows PCs started with Windows 8 (IIRC) when Microsoft launched their separate app store for Windows, but yeah, I meant (and should have specified) a PC app, which is distinct from a regular program, but it's always seemed weird to me they separate...

    Why OLED for PC use?

As elvn pointed out, a lot of it is probably the monitor, but one thing I'd also add is that only Windows 11 supports Microsoft's Windows HDR Calibration app (a separate app downloadable from the Microsoft Store), and that makes a pretty substantial difference in my opinion. So Win10's HDR...

    ASUS Swift PG27AQDM 27" OLED 1440P 240hz

The ASUS looks really nice but the LG fits my needs just fine, brightness included (I calibrate to 160 anyways, so I wouldn't use the extra headroom, though being able to turn off the ABL would be nice [though I'm not 100% on which modes that applies to on the ASUS]). Now that I have settings...
