NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Hi, it's been a while since I've written on my Ncase but want to replace a water system with air cooled. It's got an older 5820K CPU with the funny mounting pattern. What's a good air cooler these days?? Thanks

Help building a powerful small factor computer for heavy programming

Just pitching in... The X99-ITX can take 32GB sticks, 64GB sticks and 128GB sticks. So: 256GB max. But needs Xeon, there should be some cheaper options on eBay these days. Also you could benefit from ECC.

Depends on your goal, mine is just to try things and tinker, see whats possible. And yes, this is a slight glass of overkill :)

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Push/pull does work better but better is the enemy of good, and the XE range have excellent performance only on push. And I wanted to show what is possible in the M1. So far, I'm impressed.

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Hope you find this helpful. I originally was trying to keep access to the mobo for the M.2 and cpu upgrades, but I'm unlikely to upgrade soon. The top fan header is for the Predator, and I modded a fan extender to actually fit in the 'hidden' (under PCIe clip) third fan header. Need to shuffle...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

SFX-L PSUs tend to fit better with the fan facing into the case. I have a GPU with backplate and there is enough space. The SX700 has best compatibility due to the lower stickout of the connectors, then the SX500, and then the SX800 (or the Lian Li PE 750; same OEM) which has quite protrusive...

NCASE M1 version changelog and suggestions thread

I think this has sort-of been discussed before but not succinctly: As well as the left and right angled IEC connectors, would it be possible to supply a down-angled, or up-angled version? No changes to the M1 necessary.

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Haha, well it certainly seems like my build won't appeal to many either, I rather like an 'industrial aesthetic'. To be fair, my implementation is a heck of a lot neater: CNC-milled panels so that stuff lines up. I'm going for maximum radiator capacity, so it has an EK 240SE, an EK 240PE/XE (not...

3 Slot "MATX" motherboard in Ncase M1

With the X99-itx and a Xeon you can get 2x128GB. Expensive but doable.

    X99 on mITX: ASRock X99E-itx/ac

Jeez, thats worrying that the Manufacturer hasn't corrected the listing, but it has only been 11days-CORRECTION: they have commented twice more in 2016 on this part incorrectly asserting that it is Registered. I've checked another Kingston listing and that spec definitely is Registered...

    X99 on mITX: ASRock X99E-itx/ac

It looks like the Kingstons are registered (http://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/KVR21R15D4_16.pdf). The Samsung ones are LRDIMMs and use a buffer (http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/products/dram/server-dram/ddr4-load-reduced-dimm/M386A4G40DM0?ia=2504). What have I missed? :)

    X99 on mITX: ASRock X99E-itx/ac

Not sure I follow as both examples used Registered RAM. Are you saying neither should have worked? Or, because one was 1x32GB, the other 2x16GB, they are at the maximum configuration?

Slim fan <15 mm thick compilation

Anyone know what the quietest fan here is? From the spreadsheet it's the Scythe Kaze Jyu low speed, but it's probably got a sleeve bearing. Do any of the slim 120s have ball bearings, or other?

Would love to see a dual-DDC setup! If you decide to do that, go for the Aquacover dual-DDC as that gives options for inlet and outlet.

    X99 on mITX: ASRock X99E-itx/ac

The i7 on the X99 itx board can run up to 2x32GB ECC RAM with the right BIOS. With a Xeon you can get up to 2x128GB! Take a look at this thread on p26, Chemist_slime has it up and running at 2400MHz.

If you don't want to drill and tap to a larger size, you can maybe use a threaded-insert or maybe even a thread repair set (Heli-coil). All of these require a bit of tooling (sometimes included). The simplest solution may just be to drill it out and use a nut, you could maybe glue the nut in place.

Partly true, it is materially cheaper, but also easier/faster to machine, making the process cheaper. For these low perf. applications, the cooling performance deficit is marginal.
