First build in 8 years on its way. Excited doesn't cover it!!!

I don't understand why you so skeptical about running dual gpu's with an 860, I have an AX860 for my build *see my sig* and it runs flawlessly with no problems. That's on top of my rig being modestly overclocked as well, you have to understand that nvidia cards are a completely different...

    "Silent" work / gaming system

Also since you're going for a silent build I highly recommend, Asus's version of the 780. Asus GTX 780. I have two myself for my build, and they are dead silent and the fans on it are the amazing in terms of keeping them nice and cool.

    Building sub-$1000 desktop

Like I said, any numbers you see are pretty much place holders until they recieve the official word, because if you look around some sites are even listing it at around $535. So just wait a day, won't due you any harm and you can confirm it yourself that way too. Rest assured the "video card"...

    Gigabyte G1 Assassin 3

Although I don't really follow gigabyte mobos much, I can tell you that the Asus rampage 4 black edition is due to be either announced or released on October 29th, and honestly I'd take an Asus board over gigabyte any day :) The black edition is their new x79 LGA2011 socket board.

Need New Build Advice For Ultimate Desktop - Unlimited Budget

http://pcpartpicker.com/ Is a good starting point as it connects you to more than one retailer. Some of these retailers have price match (such as www.ncix.com) which simply requires you to place the part link you found cheaper at another site and they usually match it at the very least, and...

First build since 2008, switching back to PC after years on a Mac - advice?

Hmm, I only suggested that since you only mentioned mild overclocking, but at same time If your budget is $2500(including shipping/tax or not) without including graphic cards into the equation then you can definitely keep the H100i. Also note that suggestions on parts tend to change weekly, so...

First build since 2008, switching back to PC after years on a Mac - advice?

Please answer the question in the ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS sticky, so that everyone can provide better advice. Aside from that the H100i liquid cooler I would say is overkill, an H80 would be just fine, also noting that AS5 is an outdated compound and stock compounds these days are just as good.

Cleaned laptop fan, now it shuts down after a few minutes

Another possibility is that when you used the compressed air you may have simply clumped up all the dust particles together, forcing the fan to seize up. Take a closer look, if that's indeed what happened you may have to find some more creative ways to clean it and dig up the junk to say the...

Haha, that's good to know because I was just curious about the comparison between the NZXT phantom 630, and Corsair Obsidian 800D. They both have similar specs in terms of internal setup and airflow. But the 800D does offer a couple of extra perks with it, I just don't know if its worth the...

    Gaming/VM Build Sheet Lookover

Hold off on the build till end of the month, maybe able to save a bit of money once the new AMD cards are out, as Nvidia cards may or may not drop their prices. Either way, you can get away with a 750/760W PSU, since you have not indicated any desire to do SLI. Here is a link to a build I did...

New Build - Photoshop CS6 and LR4/5 NO GAMES

Honestly, It is a lot safer both in terms of longevity and in terms of accessibility to store such large storage of files on BD's. As long as you keep them stored in a safe environment where your cats/dogs/kids don't try to bite or sharpen their nails on, it provides a more permanent storage...

    Advice for new $2400 Setup

Well current one is built and operational and has done a great job at blowing my old system away so far so lets leave that aside. In response to the x79 chipset I was actually hoping for the new generation of 2011 Motherboards to be released before I even considering making such a rig. But...

I went with the original completed build list, will save up for the 2011 socket set when gen4 MOBOs that can fully support all of its functions are released, at that point I can implement a higher budget list so I can take full advantage of its functions :) So yea, pretty much everything...

Building new CAD workstations for engineering office - Need advice on $900 system bui

I only recommended the smaller sized SSD if he did not already have a central storage unit to connect all the computer. However, seeing as he already has one in place I fully agree and would just stick with the single 250GB SSD drive, no need for much more.

Building new CAD workstations for engineering office - Need advice on $900 system bui

128GB would prove sufficient as you would typically set aside 60GB for windows alone, and CAD software,Microsoft Office, and other programs would take up another 40GB, so you would technically still have 20GB left to play around with, and worst case scenario you always have the option of...

Building new CAD workstations for engineering office - Need advice on $900 system bui

Out of curiosity, do you guys use a central storage unit for all the company files etc... or is it isolated to each individual computer. If you can set a computer aside for the purpose a storage, you can probably save quite a bit of money opting in a 128gb ssd just to run windows and you're cad...

Building new CAD workstations for engineering office - Need advice on $900 system bui

Also, in terms of any CAD software always try to avoid AMD GPU, not much problem with their processors, but there are alot of issues with AMD gpu's, Nvidia is much more stable and will last you for a longer period. *edit* On another note, you always have the option of creating one main modeling...

    Advice for new $2400 Setup

Also, I don't know if you want me to make a new thread for this, but lets say i wait until 'black friday' sales or 'boxing day' for us canadians, with a budget of $3000, how much of a beast could we create? Do computer part sales on those days make much of a difference?

    Advice for new $2400 Setup

You guys are making me think, the budget should be adjusted to $3000 haha. Also, I am well aware of the limitations of AMD gpu's which is why I wanted to leave them out from the start :) Also out of curiosity, when can we expect for amd/nvidia gpu prices to change, if at all.

    Advice for new $2400 Setup

Definitely see the appeal in the new proposal, certainly would prove to be beneficial in the long run, but at the same time it would require an additional $500-$600 (at present prices) to finish the build in the future, not counting the additional $200 start-up fee. So the decision remains...

    Advice for new $2400 Setup

Well good thing i'm not going dual SLI right away then, I'll wait it out and see what happens in that case:) Just hoping the current one can hold out until then, tired of waiting 2.5 days to do a single rendering on my current system haha.

    Advice for new $2400 Setup

Even if they do reduce the prices, would you the the 780's would rly drop much lower than they are now?? I mean although Nvidia tends to follow up on its competition with AMD, in terms of use for renderings i find them to be quite superior, while often running at cooler temperatures as well.
